One of the best programmes Justin. I like the way William doesn't talk down to people. There are no perfect churches, although there are a lot of dead churches.. WLC mentions worshipping at a Plymouth Brethren Church, and I always liked the Open Brethren/Gospel Hall. I think through this Coronavirus pandemic God is shaking and sifting the churches and perhaps we will see the re-emergence of much simpler forms of congregational worship as in Acts.

If suffering draws us closer to God, helps us surrender to Gods will and leads to our acceptance of Christ, than the conclusion is that suffering is the blessing and prosperity is more of a curse! I have seen this in my own walk and I am very thankful for my trials now, because my trust of the lord has been built up through this process. Not to mention the knowledge and wisdom that the spirit has led me to through it all. I wouldn't trade it for the world!

I asked some questions in the livechat that did not get addressed (which is totally fine). I'm posting them here in case anyone familiar with Dr. Craig's work can provide some answers. A.) Dr. Craig advocates for the tensed theory of time. If time exists outside of our universe, is it necessarily tensed also on his view? If so, how does a beginningless thinking agent not lead to an infinite regress under the tensed theory of time? B.) In principle, could we have used philosophical reasoning to discover counter-intuitive qualities of the universe, such as the stochastic nature of quantum mechanics or the flexible nature of space-time? If so, please suggest a resource where I can learn more about it. If not, then how do we know that we can trust philosophical reasoning to inform us on the nature of the origin of the universe?

I think before the creation there was no time and God was timeless. In the creation God also created time and God became part of time there fore temporal. This is my understanding of the book of WLC God Time and Eternity.
@escuddy3244
@escuddy3244 3 жыл бұрын
@@romelimmense Thank you for the reply. I guess the part I'm having trouble wrapping my brain around is how a thinking agent can exist in a timeless state. After presenting the Kalam Cosmological Argument, Dr. Craig claims that the cause of the universe must be personal because only a mind can exist for eternity past and then choose to create. Was that mind completely static before the creation event? If so, how is it identifiable as a mind since the act of thinking seems to require a series of differing states of the mind? If not, then how could the mind change from one state to another without experiencing some sort of time? And if the mind is experiencing time of any form (especially tensed time), then how do the thoughts of a beginningless mind not constitute an infinite regress?
@romelimmense
@romelimmense 3 жыл бұрын
God is still a person even in the timeless state because the requirements to be a person is still with God like mind and consciousness. He also believes that in the absence of event there is no time. Since God was in the state of stability and completeness before creation therefore there was no time. I could not elaborate any further because of limited space and English is not my first language. Thank you

The same rules apply to the existence of an evil god. Free will, knowledge of good because of evil, justice based on morality, etc. can all be explained in reverse...I.e. an evil god vs a “good” god. It’s a level playing field.

Yeah but most people don’t strive to be evil. The majority of people would agree that evil behavior is something that should be avoided. So if an evil god exists and wanted us to do evil, why make us dislike evil behavior? It’s inconsistent with an all evil god, to let his creation feel a positive feedback when doing good, if he would’ve wanted us to do bad. That’s where the evil god idea falls of in my opinion.

If by emperical you mean like something that can be done in a lab then there is not. The proof is all logical as well as emotional/philosophical. Logical like the design and fine tuning of our planet, objective morality etc. Emotional like love, meaning in life etc. I would say that the reason why most people don't believe in God is pride and lack of humility which is described in Christianity as a spiritual setback or sin. @John Paul Hello, I apologize for not getting back to you right away. So your question boils down to: How do I know I am saved and not just imagining it? Well the first thing that comes to my mind is, the relationship with the living God is so incredible. When a person chooses to believe in Jesus as their Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit dwells in their spirit. He often brings me to tears and humbles my heart in such a loving moving way. I can feel his presence. And I know it may be difficult to believe and to understand if you have not felt it for yourself. But I encourage you, if you are searching for God. Just ask him to show you who he is. He is the only one who can convince you and move your heart. And he will do it if you are willing. There are several other reasons I believe and know with confidence that Jesus is my savior. And I can go into those if you like. What do you think about what I said?

40:40 burden of proof lies on the one making the claim. (Weak) Atheists have no burden of proof, it is just saying “the god claim hasn’t meet its burden of proof so I don’t believe until it has been demonstrated”. This is not claiming god does not exist. it is the state of being unconvinced by theist claims. Like in court, god is accused of existing and he is assumed innocent of existing until we can demonstrate he is guilty of existing.

If the issue is not the existence of God but being unconvinced by the theistic claims, you fail to notice that the atheists thrust upon themselves the role of a judge. They fail to acknowledge that their claim to judgeship is not conferred upon them by the claim of the theists that God exists. To the theists, the claim is as good as proved. It is when the atheists challenge it, the question of judgeship comes. Atheists cannot claim the roles of both prosecution and a disinterested judge. If they still insist on being the judge , then the court becomes a kangaroo court.

I only listen to the answer that WLC gave at 25:35 to the question from an atheist. And I'm deeply disappointed... WLC first modified the question to a psychological one (which, to me, it was not). @emiliawisniewski3947
@emiliawisniewski3947 3 жыл бұрын
WLC's answer was reasonable. The question was 'What am I missing that you have that stops me being convinced that God is real? I've heard a lot of evidence but none that is convincing'. It's impossible to know why someone thinks what they do, unless you are that person. We can make many assertions, perhaps the atheist doesn't like the idea of God existing, maybe it inconveniences them or places them in a state of great anxiety or anger. We cannot answer that question for the atheist. The followup statement the atheist then makes 'there is no convincing evidence' suggests that the atheist is actually interested in exploring the question further. Therefore the better approach would be for the atheist to further investigate the arguments for God's existence and posit well thought-out and defensible arguments against this evidence, and see where the evidence leads them. As for WLC's statement about 'sinful nature', this is one that appears harsh but is just a theological premise. The atheist is not an an exceptional or fundamental evil being, we are all capable of sin as we all have a sinful nature. Our sinful natures enable us to commit heinous acts that we know to be fundamentally evil, we usually justify these acts by presenting them as an act of 'greater good', e.g. murdering a prostitute because they are "morally corrupt". Atheists do however exist in a perplexing position, if the atheist knows God and chooses to reject God, they are engaging in sin as they are choosing to reject what they know to be all good and all loving. However that is not evident with this atheist at all, this atheist in question may have no understanding of God whatsoever, and therefore their position is not one of malice, but merely ignorance.
@kevinbarbe799
@kevinbarbe799 3 жыл бұрын
@@emiliawisniewski3947 I'm not sure. I see what you want to say and I agree that we can't know what this atheist knows about the subject. But when I heard the question, to me it was clear that he was asking "What kind of evidence could you have (as a christian philosopher) that I might have missed. And WLC goes into a speech about "God is there for you if you truly seek for him" which is a bad apologetic move, especially if the atheist was a christian who deconverted because he searched the truth. For your "Atheists do however exist in a perplexing position" : I'm not sure to follow. Was that only for an atheist who knows God but chose to ignore him (and in this case, how can we call this guy an atheist)? Or is it a statement for all atheists?

I think the fact that God doesn't make his presence "obvious" in the sense of what unbelievers seek is because this "obvious" is an act of desire from the evil in their hearts. As Jesus says, a wicked and adulterous generation seeks a sign....anything more than the revelation of God's creation is an act of God's mercy and grace. As apostle Paul states, His invisible attributes are clearly seen by the things that are made...

So, his response to universalism is just a plain logical fallacy. He says that since there are conditions on salvation, everyone will not therefore be saved - which of course doesn't follow at all, since there is nothing about the fact that there are conditions on salvation that implies that some people will not fulfil those conditions.

When you can arrive at a philosophically adequate definition of "knowing" _and_ defend that definition according to its own standard then you _may_ be justified in making self-righteous claims about what people do and do not know. To save you some time, materialistic empericism rests on unproven, and unprovable axioms, hence why WLC points out that materialism is a self-refuting proposition. _All_ knowledge claims rest on axiomatic foundations which cannot, themselves be empirically proven.

I can sort of understand how someone can be convinced that some sort of god exists due to some of the arguments for a god, such as the cosmological argument. I don't, because it's dreadful, but when one gives specifics about the thought process of the mind of a specific God like WLC does, it's hard to conceive as to why anyone would listen to such nonsense.

It's appointed for us to die once, but after this the judgment. God is going to judge the world in righteousness and the standard he is going to judge by is the moral law. Jesus said that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart. God sees your thought life. He requires truth in your inward parts. “Whoever hates his brother is a murderer” 1 John 3:15. Who of us is guiltless? If you’ve lied you are a liar, and all liars have their part in the lake of fire. So how are you going to do on judgement day? We are all going to be guilty and the lake of fire is a reality for all who die in their sins. But God is rich in mercy. Born of a woman, God was manifest in the flesh as Jesus of Nazareth who suffered and died on the cross. He loves us so much that while we were still sinners Christ died painfully for us. He took our punishment so we could be forgiven. Then He raised from the dead and was witnessed by hundreds. You and I broke God’s Law, Jesus paid the fine. What you and I must do is repent and trust alone in Him. Do that today and you’ll pass from death to life! If you want to learn more about what Jesus did for you, read the gospels.

Our lives can be as simple as: "I don't like this" "Oh me neither" "Ok then let's agree to never do this to each other" "Deal" You guys keep crying for an objective morality, while failing to realize that it is still subjective from God's perspective. And funny thing is, immoral things are immoral until God says otherwise then they become moral. Fucking ridiculous.

I don’t understand why the evolutionary argument against naturalism put forward by Plantinga is actually taken seriously by theists. It sounds trivially easy to overcome from an atheist perspective. Surely from an evolutionary point of view a species would have a greater chance of adaptation and survival if it consistently possessed true beliefs. By virtue of this, one would expect evolution to select for true beliefs. PThis argument is not taken seriously by most contemporary philosophers but seems to be wheeled out by theists as one of their trump cards. Classic apologetic argument that’s poor philosophy.
@nicolassbrown9881

Your opposing argument is also self-defeating. If you define belief in god as a false belief, and given that belief in a god is universal to all human societies, then by your own definition selection has favoured reason that leads to false belief. Regardless, I would say that belief is not determined by genes, nor is it based on reason, but influenced mainly by culture.

@@nicolassbrown9881 The notion that god is universal is empirically false. The Chinese, for example, never really had a concept of God and their systems of thought are built around Confucianism. Even if I was to grant that belief in god is universal, in what way is what I said self-defeating? Refuting Plantinga’s argument in the way I outlined doesn’t commit me to the notion that a species doesn’t possess false beliefs. What I’m saying is that it seems obvious that advantageous adaption would entail true beliefs. Evolution selects true beliefs that therefore result in adaptive behaviour. The point is a combination of naturalism and evolution doesn’t entail unreliable cognitive faculties. It doesn’t, however, mean that we’re infallible and we don’t possess false beliefs.

There is ZERO scientific evidence proving that a corona virus causes a disease called covid-19, none, nada. It’s a total fabrication without any scientific evidence. Coronavirus has NOT been isolated and it has NOT been proven to cause a disease called covid-19 using the gold standard scientific method ie Koch’s Postulates. You isolate a virus by filtering it and then running it through a filter and a centrifuge - this has never been done. You prove that it is contagious by taking the isolated virus and giving it to a healthy person and they should develop the exact same symptoms as the sick person that the sample was taken from. Then you take a sample from the 2nd person and isolate the virus again and it should match the original sample - this is Koch’s Postulates and it has never been done. They simply took a sample from sick people and found a genome sequence that they said looks like a genome sequence they found in other sick people ie they skipped a key step and ASSUMED it’s a corona virus. These could very well be exesomes which naturally present themselves when the body is removing toxins from our cells. Exesomes look EXACTLY like this alleged coronavirus under an electron microscope - what a coincidence! When the PCR test amplifies this bogus genome sequence 60 times 100% of people will test positive. A goat and papaya have tested positive. There is ZERO science behind the mainstream fairytale that a coronavirus causes a disease called covid-19. Watch videos from: Dr Tom Cowan Dr Andrew Kaufman
