The doctor did not know what it was but lanced and drained it. By the time I got home, it had closed back up. I was leaving town the next day for a 500-mile road trip. Luckily, after a few days on my vacation, the abcess did finally drain on its own. It was of course horribly painful. And I was extremely upset with my OBGYN for refusing to see me. When I returned, she agreed to see me and then tried to tell me that it wasn't a bartholins abcess. I fired her after that. Horrible experience overall that my doctor could have mitigated but unfortunately she chose not too.

So, I had one from after an infection 5-6yrs ago. It was drained at the doctor's at the time (ouch that part hurt). What's interesting though, it never actually went away. It just never swelled up as bad as it did back then and it doesn't ever hurt now...but I've had the bartholin cyst ever since, sometimes it's not noticeable and other times (usually after working out at the gym or having rougher sex with my partner) it will swell up a little and is noticable by touch (probably as big as an inch max). I just think it's interesting it never fully went away and my OBGYN/MD haven't ever had any concerns with it.

I'm amazed by the fact you mentioned Hidradenitis. I have this condition and no one ever seems to know about it. It's a really awful condition and the fact that there's no cure or cause for it known is so upsetting. I get regular abscesses there several times a year. I've gotten good at wound care so they heal faster, but they are so painful and distressing. I stopped getting antibiotics because I'm worried I'll just become immune. I wish there was something else available to treat this condition.
@AskAwayHealth Жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for this note, I'm sorry to hear the challenge you're having and agree that it is a complex condition to have and treat, plus we could do with more awareness about it. What areas in particular would you like a video on HS to cover?
@andaracat735 Жыл бұрын
@@AskAwayHealth A video on the topic would be amazing, but please don't feel you have to 😊 If you did want to, you could cover the 4 stages, what areas the abscesses can appear, what age they can start to appear ( I was 17 when they first started, but I wasn't diagnosed until I was in my 30's and pregnant as they got a lot worse during that time and I had no idea what it was), treatment options (medication, surgery, basic wound care etc). Who can get the condition and what causes it (I know they don't know why, but covering current theories could be helpful I'm sure). I bet there are people out there who have this condition who don't even know, like myself for years. Having abscesses in delicate areas isn't something you want to advertise especially when you are younger, and quite often they will drain by themselves and you don't need to see a Dr, but if more people know about this condition and feel they may have it, a diagnosis may help them understand why they are suffering. I believe there is more research being done on the condition than in the past, but there is still no cure and it's down to managing the condition to make things bearable. If you covered the treatment options available, it may help myself and others to approach our Dr's armed with more information and be able to ask to try specific medications. I don't know how others manage, but in the UK I'm constantly having to explain to different GP's what the condition is and they have no clue what may help. I usually just get prescribed Amoxicillin all the time which I believe is just a general bacterial antibiotic, but there may be a better antibiotic I don't know about, or other long term options there may be. Sorry for the long essay, I just got very excited after watching this video that someone even covered this issue 🙈😊 Thank you so much ❤

Had to get surgery for it to be cut out and i feel so much relief. Grateful for all the women doctors i had that told me what i needed same what to do because every make doctor acted as if it was an OBGYN issue only.

I think I had the first one, and they had to numb it, before cutting, and getting stuck there, nearly made me jump out of my skin. They drained it, and then packed it and gave me antibiotics, and it healed up nicely. I wouldn't wish that on my worse enemy.

Thank you so much for this information. I started getting little lumps and bumps around the vagina from 25 onward, very often too and still to this day. I notice they come and go around mensuration. I got checked for herpes and all other STI’s but apparently it wasn’t that, so I’ve been told to not touch or irritate them, keep them clean with rubbing alcohol if they do pop so that they don’t get infected. My mum started getting them too but from what over seen hers looked more like the cancer picture displayed and had multiple large ones. She couldn’t walk or sit and every time she mentioned it to the doctor they only cared more about other conditions and didn’t address that, but she does have HPV so I shared this with her just for more information

I have always had sensitive skin as a child I grew out it, I started itching like crazy outside my vagina. I wasnot sexual active so I could figure what was the cause and did a little research. I noticed the panty liners were irrationing my skin too. The information I ran into said I might be reacting to the liners. So, I stop using them when to 100% cotton liners. Bingo, that was the problem I was having a reaction to the liners. I haven't had a problem since. They must changed something in it I had been using that brand for a while. I thought I might share this with all the female.

Thanks so much for what you are doing for women by putting this information out there. I had a bump/lump pop up around my clitoral hood/ Labia minora area a year or so back. It was slightly painful when pressed on, but eventually popped like a cyst. It never grew very large or was a different color than my normal skintone there. From research I presumed it was a gland that had become blocked (had me questioning my cleaning routine), but that was the first and last time such has happened.

I have no lumps. However, looking at my medical records, I found that I have an ovarian cyst on my left. Not one of my doctors have mentioned ANYTHING about this, nor options for treatment. I have been married for only one year. My husband wants a baby. I just turned 45, and know that we Black women can still have babies at said age. However, I am afraid that I will not survive though. I am of a socalled high risk age; and the doctors never even mentioned that I have an ovarian cyst 😩

It’s quite normal for cysts to come and go, its when they cause pain there could be a problem or they get to a certain size. The pain can be really bad,especially during intercourse. Your probably ok but you should speak to your Doctor if you’re worried 🥰

Tell your husband to have the baby himself. You can always adopt! At 45, I would not have a child either. At this point in your life you may be perimenopausal...
@TheeHuntress8 ай бұрын
@@ernestineross5783 Yes, I am probably perimenopausal by now. Unfortunately though, when we moved to this state, we did stop by an adoption agency on the way to view the house that I ultimately purchased; and the woman we spoke with said that no agency here would allow us to adopt, because my husband is 71. Their reasoning was that he might not be there for the entire rearing of the child. I really felt like they were discriminating against our race, since I am not that old; but oh, well. If it is to be, I guess I have plenty of time 🤷🏽🥲
@TheeHuntress8 ай бұрын
@@tormentedsoul906 thanks for the advice. Mine never seems to go away though. Luckily, it may only cause me mild to moderate pain about 2 weeks between my periods; but it also seems to rupture during that time. I am a veteran in a new state, so I have had to wait for the VA to update my healthcare enrollment and everything before I can be seen. Otherwise, I would have to go to the ER, which might take from someone in an actual emergency. I guess that must be why no doctor has ever told me about the cyst though-they come and go with most women. Mine just showed up around a year or so ago, and never left me, after a few examinations from 2 facilities. Again, I really appreciate your feedback. A 'man' told me a few years ago, that I am supposed to know my body. Lol As if a woman's body is the same throughout life 🤦🏽 Needless to say, I told him off😂

@AskAwayHealth Жыл бұрын
Hi, there's really no method without some risks of irritation, infection and lumps, etc. Some experts suggest using scissors to trim rather than shave, wax, or tweeze. If one is prone, preparing the skin, using the right (and clean) tools, and moisturisers may help reduce the risk.

I have hidradenitis suppurativa (hs) & it's the worst. It's not talked about enough and leads to multiple misdiagnosis'. Mine went undiagnosed while I'm the military for years even while complaining for years and being told other stuff. HS leads to more issues as well as becoming antibiotic resistant. I've had hundreds of surgeries because of it. I take bleach baths and use manuka honey to keep it under control now but i also have to check for new cysts daily. If i could afford electrolysis i would get it bc that (that being removing the hair from the root) drastically cuts down having issues.

@@marian5967 surprisingly I should've experienced premenopause around 35 but didn't (based on maternal hereditary line)... I'm turning 42 next month and the crazy part is I'm SUPER fertile (literally only multiples atp) with no successful births (my African obgyn figured out why before even seeing the scans and was disgusted with why no other Dr especially in the military saw the signs)... Essentially I had signs this would happen from puberty and even my mother didn't do her due diligence being a woman. So I lost all those children over something that was preventable 🤦🏾♀️. Funny thing is I was taking bleach baths since puberty so my HS didn't present until after my time in the military bc I no longer had the convenience nor time to do it anymore. My issues were even blamed on my partner possibly having shaving bumps while performing oral sex which he had a baby face so that was a strict no. Medicine STILL has a huge race barrier to get over and understand that certain ethnicities just won't experience things the same as others. That's essentially damnnear erasing all the unnecessary experimentation on slaves/blacks for medical gain that truly won't apply to everyone. Not tryna make it about race but WOULD like it to be known that demographics have always played a significant part in not just medical advancement but detriment as well.

I am 37. I get horrible in grown hair cysts. I have been getting them from the age of 13ish. I asked my mom about this issue when I was young. She told me wash your hands. Sterilize a pair of tweezers, pull the infected hair out, and squeeze the living heck out of the cyst until nothing is left. They go away within a day or so. These cysts sometimes get to the size of a grape. I get about 50 a year. I haven't needed antibiotics. I have mentioned to my doctor and gyno. All haven't been worried. No fevers. The key is to keep clean. Sterilize everything "tweezers etc..."

They're saying "no big deal" because it doesn't unalive you. And none of the viral diseases have a cure yet as far as I know. Best-case scenario you just fight it off. Even that new treatment they have for symptomatic rabies now is just support care so your immune system can knock it down better, and it usually doesn't work.
