Hi, that's a great question. Yes, wrinkling does affect how well the patch works. You need to ensure it's placed flat on the skin without wrinkling or edges curling up/off as that could affect the amount of hormone the body receives. If the patch ends up wrinkled and no longer sticking properly, take it off and apply a new one to a fresh area, that's dry and free of water/body cream or oil. You're welcome, thanks for watching. The positioning mainly has to do with the practicalities of keeping the patch in place. So it needs to be the part of your body less likely to be exposed to frequent touch or friction from pulling clothing on and off etc. That's why the stomach, back, arms, and butt are recommended first (avoid breasts).

Hi i have been on it for nearly 10 years. I do 4 weeks on and one week off. In the past 4 months i sometimes spot 2-4 days after i put my week 2 patch on. Its very light brown and last just a few hours. Any idea why?

I have a question if I took off my patch 2 days late on the off patch week, when I start the new cycle should i put it on the a new day or my original day I took off the patch on Tuesday my change day was Sunday…. You can start the patch anytime of your cycle. Its not an emergency method. If it's not on day 1 to 5 of your period, use extra protection like condoms for 7 days

Hi, thanks for your question - the combined birth control patch is less effective if you weigh 90 kg or more, so you would either use it with another method like the condom, or swap to some other method altogether. But can I also add, especially if other options are not available, 'some effectiveness is better than none', and just being aware of the lower effectiveness while you use the method with a condom is better than none at all. What about the fact that she has her period before her patch free week. Is it still okay to have unprotected sex in patch free week if her period already came on the 3rd patch?

If the period came early but she used the patch correctly, there should be no risk of pregnancy from having U/S in the patch-free week. It's important to use the patch in the recommended way, as bleeding outside the patch-free week could be from other causes like changing a patch late or an infection.

Hi, so long you don't have conditions that could be affected by the hormones like high blood pressure, you're not overweight (>90kg) as its a little less effective, you don't smoke etc, it's fine. Your doctor should go through specifics with you, but age alone doesn't prevent you from using the patch till 50 years.

Hi Darja, thanks for your question - the patch starts to work from the 7th day after you put them on. And as long as you change them correctly, they will continue to work. Some women do get irregular bleeding side effects, most of which settle in short while. Thanks for watching the video.

Hello! I’m new to using the patch and i’m scared of it coming off, i used it for 1 month a year ago but I stopped because it was peeling off time to time because I would go to the gym every day and shower, I assume all the sweat and dirt mess it up. Could I use a big bandaid to cover it up every week?

Hi, I know this can be a tricky problem. Making sure that when you first apply the patch, your skin is cool and dry, with no creams or oils, will help. Also, check it's well stuck on the 4 edges when you first apply the patch. Also choosing a site that you're not likely to touch so often when changing or dressing may help: bottom, upper arm for example. Using a larger dressing over the patch may help if you find it tends to peel or wrinkle because of sweat/showering, make sure the dressing doesn't put pressure on the patch making it wrinkle or pulling it off.

Hi, thanks for the question. I'd say that if the edges are coming off your skin, theres a risk of losing protection. The recommendation is: "If the edges of your patch lift up* try to reapply by pressing down firmly with the palm of your hand for 10-20 seconds. Then run your fingertip around the edges. If it still doesn’t stick remove it and apply a new patch immediately (be sure to use a different location)". I hope this helps.
