Hamsters are even more fun to have when you can watch them actually forage and tunnel. They are more fun to watch explore in a playpen than run around scared in a plastic ball. I remember back in 2021 when I got my first hamster, Janna. I had all my research from you and some other sources. It was written on paper and I was so determined to give this hamster the best life ever. Sadly, my mom disagreed and Janna was stuck in a purple critter trail. The exact one you had when you first started too with the green wheel all the way in the air. I was so upset, but I couldn’t do really anything about it because of my mom. My mom even forced her into a ball! My mom thought this other cage I had was an upgrade, but really it didn’t help much. So one day I told my mom to go and watch you on KZbin and the next day my mom had ordered her a new cage. It was a big upgrade and she attached my hamsters other cages to it so she had a big space to roam. But, my hamster kept chewing out the tubes and knocking the cage door open. So, my dad spent 3 months building a giant cage for my hamster. It’s 1200sq inches and it is perfect for my hamster. Sadly, Janna passed on October 3rd, 2022. But, my current hamster Cinder, came in with proper care unlike Janna. Only bad part is my mom was still set on the ball idea until today when I kind of lied and said Cinders foot got caught in the holes and almost ripped her leg off. But, it was probably my best idea ever because she agreed to never use it again! And I got that information from you that hamsters can’t thrive in small cages and hamster balls. You’re the one to thank. You have been my go to channel for advice on hamsters. I even went and watched your vlogs. So thank you for helping me and thousands of others. We love you ❤️

Great video! ChatGPT should definitely not be used as a way to get informed about something. It's good at putting together a text out of a variety of sources but it has no ability to verify if any of that is proper advice. Since as basis it takes articles it finds online and most hamster related articles are really really bad it can easily give dangerous advice. When it first came out, I tested it to see what info it would give about hamsters and it had me concerned. It would give some incorrect info and make a statement like ''many vets/experts/scientists say...'', but when asked which vets and experts it would be unable to say. It supports what it says by saying experts/scientist/vets claim that but it can't give a study about the claim nor any names. Sometimes it answers a question one way but then a month or two later it says the complete opposite. It's really really unreliable. I don't advise anyone to use it for getting informed about anything.

A question in case you do another Q/A video: Why are most (if not all) ethical breeders focused on Syrians? Every ethical breeder I've looked up seems to only breed Syrian hamsters. Where can people ethically obtain non-Syrians? There are rescues, but those tend to just be pet store hamsters that have been abandoned by their owners, so they come with the same issues as pet store hamsters.

They’re just easier to obtain, pure bred winter whites and campbells don’t exist in North America (besides for one breeder).

I’m not sure how close you are, (or if your even in the US) but there’s a breeder in South Carolina for winter whites! She has a KZbin channel aswell! I’m pretty sure she’s called “happy hamstery” or something close to it. She’s had some of the most gorgeous color combos I’ve ever seen in my life. I didn’t even know they could have those colors!

HIII VICTORIA I AM A RLY BIG FAN I'm super exited to say I'm upgrading my 20 gallon aquariam to 650 sq inch of floor space !!!!! I asked ChatGPT how to bathe dwarf hamsters and it told me to bathe it with WATER LOL hahaha……. I previously binge watched your videos for hamster care and after testing ChatGPT I immediately corrected it and it apologized. I asked about zoo med reptisand… but it said it was unsafe for the hamster because of the small particles and it can enter its lungs… hm….. I had gotten so many info about hamster cage size minimums. IDK what is the true 2023 minimum 😢 but I think it's around 600-800?

Minimums are hard to go by because there are different standards worldwide and different people will suggest different things. I personally recommend aiming for 800 sq inches based on personal experience of this being the size that fits the minimum amount of enrichment needed for a hamster.

I did this with the Snapchat AI and thought that it would be fun if you did a video on it!! I had the biggest argument with that thing! I would ask something like how much floor space they should have and they would tell me 360 sq in. I would say not that info is VERY wrong and would tell them it should be 600 sq in as the bare minimum and they would say ok so I’d ask again but worded different and they give the same wrong answer🙄😂

i have a question i hope someone could help me with! so i got a syrine hamster. she’s a girl and here name is Pepe (it’s italian) well i’ve had her for 3 weeks now and she chews on her cage at night. now she has a massive wooden cage with lots of chews, a sand bath and a 12inch wheel. she has sprays and a good food mix. so why she chews on the corners idk?? my second question is that she is still very jumpy still, i know she’s not a ghost hamster but when i do try and just look into the enclosure and she’ll see me open the lid and sometimes hide or freeze up. she’s ate food from my hand a few times and she ran across my hand twice but she is very hit and miss. one second she’s comfortable with and and the next she’s scared. for that do i just have to let her warm up to me still? of should i leave her be? thank you.

Hey I know I'm not Victoria but I wanted to try and help you with your question. It's hard to tell whether the hamster actually ate the food or just stored it up, but as long as there isn't a ton that you can see still scattered around the enclosure at the next feeding time, I would just stick to a consistent feeding routine and as long as you're not feeding too much your hamster will probably have eaten it all or stored it up. 1 tablespoon a day usually seems like the perfect amount for all my hamsters. I hope that helped

Well it's not exactly great, a healthy hamster should live 1.5-2 years but when we rescue or get hamsters from petstore their genetics and health is undetermined.

I know I'm not Victoria but I just saw your question. It doesn't really matter how old you are, it matters if your are going to be responsible and take good care of the hamster. It sounds like you are getting all the proper supplies, so I would say as long as you're going to be able to properly take care of it it's whole life, and you're parents are okay with it of course, yes. 😊
