Another tip is to place a water bottle/cup of water beside your cheat sheet. If you forget, just walk over and have a drink to take a peek at your notes. Completely natural movement. The walking back and fourth can help shake off any nervous energy, while also serving as a break to recollect yourself and keeps your voice fresh!

I love all of your videos! This one is especially timely for me because I'll be giving a 30 min talk tomorrow to over 100 people, IRL...and I printed out the entire script of 10 pages😅 English is my second language, and I'm concerned, what if I forget a word, a thought, or an important point. It's good that I properly rehearsed the speech, so I'll take your advice and have a single page with bullet points. Thank you!

You can pause, you can be spontaneous and it's ok, that's the beauty of public speaking. Wish all that would work for singing/playing an instrument in public too haha

i like this video soooo much. i've been training end users on various software for years and there is always room to learn more. i agree with rehersed spontaneity. i remind my trainers that like a bride who has planned her wedding to the second. no one knows that the wrong flowers were put on the altar unless you tell them. great points.

The key is to respect the truth more than you respect your audience. If you forget go back to your notes and own in. The audience will all relate to your human faults, and appreciate that you respect your own hard work not to compromise it over how you come across.

3 month old video, maybe a shot in the dark Vinh, but who do you look up to in speaking? I think you're the best speaker I've ever heard. I also love who you are, as a person too. You seem so nice and fun, I would love your company. I hope that would be reciprocated haha!!😁

Rehearsing is imperative. That should be #1. I rehearse in front of a mirror to watch myself and use my own reflection to see if I am distracted by it. I focus on a negative space, like my forehead, or darkness in the audience and I have gone over my bullet points so much, i can imagine and project the image of the bullet points on that negative space and refer to it.

What's your opinion of taking it casually, let them know you lapsed and laugh about it. Do you think it is unprofessional?
@hkia7893

If it's among friends and colleagues it's ok I guess. But in a more professional setting it doesn't look good, unless you are the expert of certain areas, then you may have a free pass
