TEDx Talks

9 жыл бұрын

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. With magic as his metaphor Vinh will share with you an extremely powerful way to improve your presentation ability dramatically. A technique used by many magicians all over the world, it’s deceivingly simple yet very effective.
I will tell you more about it this weekend, I think you will love it. I wanted to add as much value as I can and share my gold nuggets. This technique by far is one of the most powerful that I know that anyone can use and it will 100% dramatically improve their ability to present. A little gem from the world of magic.
2013 South Australian Entrepreneur of the Year, magician and professional speaker Vinh Giang has been building businesses from a very young age. Through his love of both business and magic over the years, he has discovered many common threads between the world of business and the world of magic.
Vinh is unique in that he not only shares powerful stories from his journey, highlighting key principles of success; he is able to demonstrate and prove to a live audience precisely how real each of his lessons are, using the art of magic as his vehicle. Also being a presentation coach, Vinh firmly believes that a keynote is so much more than just content delivery. It is about bringing the content to life on stage, and each keynote is a performance that Vinh carefully crafts so he can create the most powerful emotional experience for the audience.
By creating a fun yet mysteriously entertaining atmosphere through magic, Vinh is able to ensure each and every member of his audience remains engaged throughout his presentation, and each key business concept is driven home in a truly profound and inspirational manner. After all, it is about making the medicine taste good.
Coming from the humble origins of a refugee family from Vietnam, Vinh has since worked with companies from all over the world, and is fortunate enough to be able to continuously learn from the best. Mentored by internationally recognised high achievers, such as Matthew Michalewicz, Vinh is always looking to expand his knowledge, and share fresh, cutting-edge topics with his audience.
Vinh is fascinated with the psychology behind the mysterious art of magic, and has devoted himself to understanding the ways in which people are fooled not only by illusions, but by the tricks that life plays on us, and that we play on ourselves. Through identifying and understanding how this occurs, he has found ways to unlock the minds of his audience, and ensure his messages are memorable and will create lasting change not only in their businesses, but also their personal lives.??Hearing Vinh will open your mind to new possibilities, as he takes you on an unforgettable journey through his moving family story, remarkable insights into human psychology, business and the wonderful art of magic.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

This is honestly one of the best performances I've seen. Vinh made it very personal to everyone with-in the audience supplying critical information in a very entertaining way that can truly boost someone view on life and the way they go about it. While looking for way to better my speaking for the up-coming Debate season, I have seen a few other videos also advising the practice of recording your speech to better reflect on it, but in this he actually taught the audience what to look for and had an inspiring way of going about it. Truly showing the possibilities for this type of practice.

Congratulations Vinh. The most magical TedTalk by far. Last week, my 1st year Viet-Aus marketing student nervously delivered his 5-min presentation and started out with an introduction similar to your's Vinh. Unfortunately, he stumbled over his nerves and words so the humour didn't follow through. Yesterday, we watched your presentation together and he said, “It’s good to know that I had all the ingredients there. I guess there was no magic in my performance but I’m going to keep practising and reflecting because Vinh is awesome”.

I've hesitated to do such things as make videos, offer my testimony of my beliefs and deliver prepared talks in church, and give presentations about subjects about which I'm knowledgeable because my ability th do these things to my satisfaction and in such a way as to benefit others has been hampered by the very things you address in this talk. I'm neither a stage magician nor a big fan of any, so I think that those whose comments critique your performance as a magician missed the whole point of the presentation. I didn't, and I thank you most sincerely for a TED talk to which I'm going to refer again and again.

I like VinhHow you said don't pick ace of spade, which highly trigger someone to pick another suite and of course and different card (of course).I also noticed the pause before then J. Just saying I've concluded the same.The. The question how his eyes looked up and paused at 9. But the thing is, did you write the shape of the 9 before you stated that normally people don't tell the truth about their shape and before he said the second while trying to read his gesture? Just curious. We knew it highly wouldn't be a spade because of how you told him not to go for ace of spade. Please let me know was it before or after the second shape he said. Thanks

Vinh, I say this in the spirit of your talk promoting self-evaluation, and constructive criticism. I think you are watching too much Derren Brown. Understandable, he is, in my opinion, the best modern magical entertainer working today and I study his work too. But it felt like I was watching Derren Brown channeling himself through you, which come to think of it, I wouldn't put it past him. With that being said, I think you have a ton of talent, a very likable and intelligent personality. Having those qualities puts you straight to the head of the class. As you demonstrate, magic tricks aren't magical, any one can learn how to to do a "trick", only a real magician can create a magical experience for an audience, you are a real magician, please work on loosing Derren's mannerisms. Said with love.

Hi Robert! Thank you so much for the beautiful feedback :) I've loved Derren Brown for close to 12+ years now and he's definitely been a hugeee influence on me and they way I present. I will definitely take your advice on board! Again thanking you my friend!

Well, I will say that I also noticed some moves or some gestures that Vinh does which relate to Derren Brown. But they are very few, and obviously Vinh is using his style most of the time. And, in my opinion, the reason why Vinh does some of Derren's gestures is that, as he said, he's been influenced by him for more than 12 years. Also add the fact that any one in Vinh's age before 12 years will be crazy about something or someone; as a result, while practicing, the young adult will probably copy some of his idol's moves, which is again not a wrong thing in that age. I think Vinh did the same thing, and these particular gestures stuck with him and made him do them unconsciously. Generally speaking, that's what I saw in Vinh, and his style is amazing and original and not copied from anyone else. it's only some few gestures that are similar and not a big deal.
@rlouisj54
@rlouisj54 9 жыл бұрын
I don't disagree with anything you've said and I labored over saying anything at all. I am not one to post comments, in fact, that was the first time in my life I've ever left a comment on KZbin or any place else. I did take pains to say that it was said with love and best intentions. Anyway, this is why I decided to comment in the end. Vinh is very good, talented, intelligent and charming and I said so. I also know from many years of performing just how very difficult it is to make what we do look effortless, as Vinh does. I am of the strong opinion that he reminded so much of Derren Brown that the same conclusion would be drawn by many of Derren's fans. It would be a shame to be tarred with the same brush as other dull witted copycat acts of any stripe for something that is fixable. His Derrek mannerisms aren't what makes his show good or great if you wish, it's his own natural talent and hours upon hours of practice and reflection. In other words, I'm saying they don't add anything that he doesn't already possess on his own but they might detract disproportionately to however innocently they were come by. And my final deciding factor was the topic of his lecture. His while point was be aware of how you appear to others, do your actions match your intention. I didn't think Vinh's intention was to make me think he was channeling Derrek Brown. So I thought I'd try to help a little. Nothing more.
@Reko000
@Reko000 9 жыл бұрын
Robert Louis Jones On my part, I was not accusing you of anything. My attention was shifted to your comment because saying words, like Derren Brown channeling himself through you, would give a misleading impression to others which would make them think that there's a kind of copying in Vinh's performance. So I wanted to just correct it. I see now what you actually mean, and sorry for misunderstanding you.
@rlouisj54
@rlouisj54 9 жыл бұрын
No need to apologize, I enjoy intelligent discourse. What you said was sensible and valuable. I also like that you defended Vihn against a perceived slight. If you mistook my intention then I'm sure others may have as well. I thank you for giving me an opportunity to clarify because the last thing I wanted to do was disparage him in any way. Take care friend.

Vinh G The following is part of your previous speech that I particularly like :) "Lemme tell you why I believe magic is one of the most beautiful arts in the world. It is because people simply think that magic happens in magicians’ hands. But that’s just not true. The magic happens in your mind. Your mind is capable of creating magic far beyond what a magician can create in reality. Your mind is truly a beautiful place. Why do I perform magic? The reason is I wanna bring out your inner child. Your inner child is the one part of you that still believes that anything in life is possible. "

Vinh G I thought you did great. Obviously as a fan, I heard a joke before etc., but you did well with your audience.
