CORRECTION: The format 170428_XX_XX_X appears to be the date, so ensure the chipset is the same whichever you are flashing.

This was great! Really, really helpful. I had gotten a firmware update from the manufacturer, and the instructions were in chinese. And, it was a screenshot of chinese, so no hope of pasting it into google translate. Thanks for taking the time to make this video.

Thanks for your detailed demonstration. I've tried myself on a Ugreen CM472 HDD enclosure with FW versin 171120_D1_1E_80. After comparing the dumped FW with the downloaded one byte by byte, I believe that all the non-zero data at the end of file should be deleted.

Firmware 171120 is from 2017, the most recent firmware I could find on usbdev was 220906 from 2022. Worked on my UGREEN 70499.

Thanks for this. Worked like a charm on my adapter.

Thank you. I successfully bricked my ASM1153 device :P Damn it!!!!

You can flash it as many times as you like. MPTool should not let you flash the wrong firmware for your device.

Did you fix your USB ports? I have to update firmware USB 3.1 ports with app "ASM114_MPTool" and app say "PASS". After restart pc can not view my USB Ports. When I try to update from DOS say "Can not find ASMT Host. Update firmware failed". From Windows ...."Your hots device is not ready".

Is this fix compatible with Norelsys NS1068/NS1068X USB 3.0 to SATA Bridge Controller ?

Super good video! Thank you. My UGREEN 70499 enclosure was already on 171120_D1_1E_80 but remained unresponsive in macOS 12 Monterey and Windows. HOWEVER, I got it working! The first part of the firmware filename is the DATE, and the rest is the firmware version. So I flashed 220906_D1_45_01 from usbdev website and the drive now mounts just fine in macOS and Windows, though the LED no longer flashes. Firmware 200416_D1_43_00, slightly older than the most recent works well and has the LED. I wanted to let you know so you could perhaps mention that people can flash firmware from 2020/2022 rather than 2017. Cheers!

@primetechguides3050 I'm not understanding in your video why the dump file is being modified,also is the dump file the old firmware or is it the settings that's by the manufacturer used for your enclosure.

It is not needed, it is just to backup someones firmware and if they wish to share it with anyone else. So we can obtain latest firmwares from the community.

unrelated question, pertaining to asmedia usb controller firmware. ASM3142 controller. not sure if you're familiar with this process or the tool used, which is ASM3142 MPTool, it allows you to update the firmware of your asmedia usb controllers on the motherboard. my issue was that my USB-C ports never really worked properly. someone had suggested updating the firmware, which I did, they passed (tells you if it failed etc..) things seem to be normal, or unchanged. all other usb ports work but the C ports are always disconnecting and failing (hang). not sure if my controllers are just fried (DOA?) even the firmware check tool lets you test your ports (signal/fixture), they all show up as fails, despite things like my mouse/keyboard/USB3.0 ports working just fine for external HDDs. either the tool is wrong and all my ports actually pass, or it's detecting an unseen issue (which may be why my C ports don't work correctly). What do you think?

hi, can you please explain why after dumping the firmware you use hex editor to remove the first *130 byte* and the *"blank parts"* of the file ?
@primetechguides30509 ай бұрын
It must be how the dumper works?, it must pad extra data, but if you flash it without removing the first bytes it will brick the device.

I get this when I run asm_fw_reader.exe "Fw version : 130531_21_00_00 Image version not found, save as version from bridge controller" Edit: reason was, there was no eeprom inside my adapter...cheapscate chinesium. So my firmware is the non-upgradable firmware inside the controller itself. I fitted a 25-series eeprom (a random one I had around 25P05 / ST25P05AV 512 K-bit (64K-byte) SPI) and now it works.
