Even after a year this still holds up. Despite watching it already last year, this video had me in hysterics a lot of the time (dying of laughter at one point near the end and the internal compulsion to backseat and feel immense disappointment when Asmon didn't perform a certain action/movement and/or make the right upgrade decision upon level. Still regardless, it was a pleasure to watch Asmongold experience pure childish joy and the satisfaction that this game can generate for a lot of people. What made me return to watching this video was Asmon recently uploading his gameplay footage of a game called Halls of Torment which is practically the same genre to this and almost identical in gameplay; basically I just became reminiscent and would rather not spoil myself on Halls of Torment before playing and experiencing it myself.

It's so funny to me, watching this after having all the unlocks (For now), and still knowing that most of his chat is forgetting that he just started. It's very easy to open your mouth and say things, with your current level of upgrades, but the fact is, for his first time playing, this is the very typical experience. With how fast Asmon learns mechanics, he will be outplaying over half of his chat within a day of playing, if not most of his chat. For his first 2 1/2 hours, he's way ahead of what I knew at the same time, back when there weren't as many things to remember. Hope you are enjoying the game, It's super addictive.

Agree. And for starting player, with low powerups etc, Garlic is a great defence tool. I know I was using it a lot before I got extra projectiles and better characters. I still think Hellfire is overrated AF and Lightning ring is busted. I was never a big fan of Rune tracer. For some reason it was always underperforming with my setup.

Yep he already figured out that before you start getting upgrades Garlic is the absolute best because of how good it is earlier on in a map and for the stagger it gives later on. Hell the first time I beat the first map it was thanks for Garlic and Clock Lancet because of their defensive capabilities allowing me to stay out of reach... Dev help those zombies if he realizes Axe, Fire Wand, and Armor goes with his love of damage and area. Even more so if he gets the spell binder to upgrade the bible...

Also, Lancet is only good when trying to kill the reaper, otherwise it sucks. If you want to knock'em back from you: cross, wands and runetracer. That's it.

It's right to say it's only good early game in terms of defeating enemies, late game, it provides little to no damage, the only useful part is the little knockbacks it gives which still is (a bit) helpful but you definitely could still argue that another weapon that is lategame will perform much better. Of course it's still useful in that you could earn fast from the start, but if you're a good player and doesn't need that garlic playstyle sortof thing then something else replacing it would also be much better. This is from several games I've played with both garlic and it evolved, it doesn't provide much if we're comparing it to a few other weapons that does much more damage/synergizes well/ has more cc

hin not buying movement speed power up really hurts a lot, its the best power up to buy in the menu, you can beat the game just with movement speed to max and nothing else, but without it is hard af man,its the best upgrade to buy at the start, then magnet and amount are preatty neat too, then greed to farm, but movement speed is a MUST, he couldve avoided a lot of deaths if he had movement speed.

This was great! I just started playing the game last week after seeing Max Dood's impressions, and already put 20+ hours in. Watching Asmongold play it from the beginning already felt a little nostalgic. The game experience evolves so much once you get further, and you can never feel that first feeling again, except by watching others play it for the first time. 'This reminds me of the original Gauntlet. The only thing it's missing, is me shooting the food." LMAO, I only started watching Asmongold's KZbin content a few months ago (and haven't watched live,) so I'm surprised I got that reference. "Let's do the Bibles again... Okay, these bats need Jesus." So f^ckin' funny. The most fascinating thing to me, watching Asmongold and Maximillian Dood, is that they don't focus on picking up the experience orbs. They focus on killing the enemies and seem to think of the experience orbs as an afterthought. I keep thinking, "What are you doing man, as they move to position their weapon to kill more enemies while completely ignoring the experience laying in front of them." So fun to watch!

Watched the first 45 min of the vid so far, and its so infuriating how he is seemingly purposely AVOIDING picking up xp crystals. he said he needs to level up, and scale, and keep pace, yet walks right next to xp crystals and never picks any of them up. its mind boggling that he has played for an hour+ and doesnt realize this with in like 5 min of playing.

To me, it seemed like if you did small circles at the end there rather than standing still you would have created distance. Leaving a wake allows you to fall back into it so why not just do circles to create a larger bubble around you.
