Isn't it nice to have something that feels like an "Endgoal", having something you really want to aim for and then be happy with it? Sure, there were better weapons but but I think a lot of priests got it and they were satisfied with it. Nowadays you have to grind the same item over and over again until it's warforged/titanforged, has an extra stat (which must be the right one), have a socket...

Not to be rude but... unless you’re socially inept or run into anti social people, you can still make friends. Don’t get me wrong, community hardly exists outside of guilds or role players - but you still CAN make friends and be social to a degree. No where near as classic ofc, but you can still try. I made several and even talked to strangers (but I was on role play servers so...)

@@sommerblume9671 Obviously you can make friends doing any activity in the world if you're good at making friends. I'd never say you can't make friends in live, but most people playing live have forgotten because they don't need to do so. It's more time efficient to find a better player using an automated system than it is to help the player in front of you. The systems in live don't require friends and during gaming time for a lot of people they're not sitting around thinking "How do I make friends" they're thinking "How do I beat this game?" What they don't realize is that the game is more fun if it requires those relationships. I think it's the same IRL: people make friends when they're grouped up for common goals(school, work, clubs, etc) but don't just go out and talk to random people if there's no reason.

I’ve played since vanilla..except I stopped in WOD, missed legion, and tried to get back into BFA for 2 months. During that 2 months I spoke 4 sentences to other people. I never needed anyone else for their profession. I only used portals to get around. There is no more WORLD of Warcraft. Watching the streams for the past couple days has taken me back to a time when this game reigned Supreme. It’s hard for me to comprehend that many people don’t know what it’s like to play WOW from back then considering my main toon is possibly older than some actual players. I was somewhat skeptical about how this would be received. About how it would be recreated. I can honestly say I’m more than excited for it to be released now. I can’t wait!! I only play horde though so I’ll be on the lookout hunting you down Asmond!!!

@slavedemorto

I think MMORPG's are perfectly fine with being casual on the grand scale of things, but the problem is that Activision Blizzard sees "casual" as "simple and with no effort". With no effort comes no investment, with no investment comes no interest and with no interest in a game people search for something else. Thus a ton of WoW players left for TESO and FF14 when BFA hype died out. I admit I loved BFA for the first month, because it was a new expansion and whatnot. But when the hype of a new expansion ended I noticed that it is stale, boring and artificially extended by the developers. Remember how additional races (humans and trolls) were a main selling point of BFA and they actually added them only a YEAR after the expansion release? Yep. BFA is polished, but it is also mind numbingly easy and boring. You rather A) try hard searching for mythic guild that turn your game into a work environment or B) do nothing of value, nothing rewarding and nothing that needs at least a bit of effort. For instance there is no effort what so ever to get into a M+ dungeon (5-10 min if you are dps/heal; 0-1 min if you're a tank), but after you are in M+ you are forced to be with a same people for 30-40 minutes, and you don't give a damn about these losers. All you do is prey that they are not braindead and can actually finish your low level key, that they know ingame/boss mechanics and whatnot. And if anything goes to shit you can't be bothered to teach your tank to press protection skills, dps to do actual rotation or heal to get their hands out of their ass; and you can't even leave the group. Not because it was hard to get all these people together or because it was hard to get into the dungeon, but because you are screwing yourself over by breaking your key and whatnot and getting it back to it's original level would take another hour. In classic you need 30 minutes to get into the dungeon to begin with (I only played in the private servers for a bit through the years). And after that much time investment you don't want to just dump the party at the first opportunity. I don't remember a single time when I wanted to talk to someone after an M+ except of me wanting to tell them that they need to learn how to play or something. While in vanilla 30 minute investment before the actual activity is such a big deal that you will probably at least talk to these said party members or make friends with them. Hell you might even remember them for the rest of your life. I remember playing some private vanilla server and that I teamed up with some hunter and we went on to do a hard quest together to kill some level 10 or whatnot monsters in a cave. And at the same time I will never recall a single person from an LFG raid group that I killed the world boss of epic proportions with or any members of the pug raids that got me one of my several curve achievements. It all boils down to the simple question: how can killing a bear in the cave be more memorable than killing an creature that threatens the whole world? Effort.
@penigan85
@penigan85 5 жыл бұрын
@@TheBuefurd You're 100% correct. Classic WoW was basically a dumb down version of Everquest. The only reason why I categorize them together is that at least Classic WoW had some RPG elements to make it an MMORPG.That's about right. Have you heard about Pantheon mmo? It's basically the real Everquest 3.

I just reactivated my subscription to check everything out while having some fun this game is super easy. My kids (8 & 6) could play and master this game without me explaining anything. I walked right back into BG's and was top of the list with garbage gear and having not touched my main since September last year. The rotation was that easy.

This is gaming history in the making! From 2004 to 2019 back to 2004 again! I bet the developers at Blizzard are really hitting their heads hard on this one. And not only them, probably also other studios that tried to replicate the WOW success. It doesn't matter if you do not intend to play Classic because of whatever reason you might have, if you are smart you have to see the bigger picture. No other game was able to do what WOW did back in the day, not even Blizzard is able to replicate the same results with the game expansions. Now this same iteration of that game has the possibility to replicate that same success from 15 years ago, not only to that older generation but also to a new generation of gamers that never got to play it. If this "new" WOW beats the previous game success I'm calling it the biggest thing to happen in gaming ever! I for sure will be there from day one until the end of WOTLK.

I am quite the social and friendly player since I’ve spent so much time leveling and as someone who has done a tonne of leveling over the years I remember the difference between then and now. Nowadays I can get friendly groups in dungeons but it’s hit and miss and the stupid speed of leveling tends to mean you never see them again once one of you goes offline but back then you made a friend and then they were a friend for a while, some people I was still friends with years later. Second was the involvement. Nowadays gaining a level is “meh ok” In the early ones and “thank god that this hell is one step closer to being over”, but back then every level was filled with pure excitement and happiness, even the ones where I got it from purely grinding mobs, I never felt any burnout and hitting the different milestones of 10 to start getting talent points, 40 for a mount or even most levels when you got a cool new one or an upgraded version because you could FEEL the effects of that level, rather than going “ah thanks for letting me kills these mobs that I already kill in 1 second in 0.5 seconds now, I know in the next one it’ll just be back to 1 second again so that the one after will be 0.5 seconds again”. Furthermore the sheer amount of joy getting a much stronger piece of gear you experienced, or when you got your first shoulders or helmet, which is compared to now where it’s completely and utterly forgettable. Sure vanilla had its flaws, but the good parts were worth the trouble, now there’s no real social aspect to cover the other major flaws of retail. I’m TDMC and this was my TED talk

This is what I remember too. I remember it most strongly in base Vanilla. In tBC I had a guild and would party with them, but things were still hard. If you found a good ass player who wasn't in your guild, you friended their ass because (just like today) the world is full of dumbfucks that can't tell up from down, so having a curated list of good/chill people to potentially pull from was a huge part of forming groups. I remember getting excited as hell on my warlock whenever I got a buff from a random other player, and I remember purposely going out of my way on my druid to buff other players I saw out questing and getting emotes and thank yous and mage water. One thing that I had been worrying about with Classic is how player knowledge would impact the experience. Part of what made Vanilla WoW so good was how clueless most of us were. I was kind of worried that increased player knowledge of the meta would tear away at a bit of that magic, but to my surprise it has actually been the opposite. Finding people to play with is even easier than I remember because people now know the inherent advantages of teaming up to level. In dungeons food, potions, and healthstones are constantly being exchanged. I never remembered this many consumables being handed in the lower dungeons. Increased player knowledge has actually IMPROVED player interactions. Hope that continues at endgame as well.

Fond memories. Everything he said I've been saying for years. I can adapt to any xpac, but the way people were back then, the interactions and laughs... builds were family. Even running back to a city to broadcast you needed a tank or healer for a dungeon while everyone else waited at the stone... that wasn't such a big hassle. Paying attention to surroundings.... you couldn't just run through an area without a train of things trying to kill you and finally dismounting you. You would battle valiantly, using up all spells, potions, bandages... and then would die. But you'd laugh at it later. It wasn't just fly in, kill and get out. It was run around, looking for your target, fighting until it showed up only to see it was too high a level to go at alone. People would whisper, "wanna group up?" And that one kill would lead to hours chatting and questing together and making friends. I've missed those days. Even the running out of arrows near the end of a dungeon! Hunters needing mana drinks! ❤

That nostalgia makes me play this game even if I have only have hour a day to do so, I will do it. Im fucking coming back to the game and its gonna be one of the best feeling in my life. So how is this classic thing going to work in terms of subscription? Do you have to have a regular wow sub to play or are they going to have a secondary discounted subscription (since this isn't getting updates like a live server n whatnot)? Depending on how and how much money they plan to extrapolate from me will be the deciding factor.

Now I mostly keep to private RP servers but I've been paying attention to what You've been saying and I have to agree, classic wow most certainly touches on vital psychological areas needed for enjoyment and I can understand why people used to get so addicted to the game. What I would like to see is, Classic influencing the next expansion. Course it's to late to bring in the heavy hardcore mechanics so suddenly but I think a steady progression back to a modern version of this would do nicely. I think it will improve the writing of the story to, because imagine right.. a WOW expansion with BFA style quality of cinematics, the old vintage story telling of wow and great graphics and mechanics? I see a lot of profit potential for the players, and share holders in this regard.

Best time playing WoW was during classic with my school friends. I got to rank 11 in pvp playing BGs till late in at night hoping to gain ranks the next week. I remember having to work towards getting weapons like "the icebarb spear" and then "the unstoppable force". Also working towards getting my epic paladin mount quest done by grinding in tyr's hand. I will be honest though that it was not always so great as some specs just were not viable in raids. Never used to get invited to raids because ret paladins were made to be the joke. The days of Lolret and retardin forever stay in my mind. Paladins had to be healers wearing cloth armor because of bad itemization.

The truth is that Blizzard have been chasing excitement in their quest to increase their bottom line and the consequences of that is that gear has become oversaturated Gear didn't matter because you could just get another much better weapon five seconds later. Higher rarity = higher value, that's how things have and always WILL work within an economy, even a fake economy within a video game. To make it more valuable they added random chance to make you more likely to reroll another piece of gear in a quest to get the 'best' gear with slots. But because of the lack of rarity of items it became a game of waiting til late game to get that gear, rushing content to get there and farming azerite and praying to RnGesus that you don't get absolute shite stats.

I remember levelling and loving it. I gave up near the end of Wotlk as I had had enough of the repetitive rerun of raids for a few pieces of gear to drop. The achievement of the raids is completing them, not completing them for the 30th time. In many ways endgame focus is the exact opposite what everyone is talking about at the moment as being the joy of the game. The streamers are talking about the social element, exploring, the quests being substantial goals giving rewards that matter. Dont get me wrong, raids are fun, but they need to be damn hard so they are an achievement in themself. But yet the streamers are already talking about optimal levelling routes, the rush to 60 and endgame. Its a catch 22, you rush to max level on a preplanned route you are missing the experience of joyously exploring and discovering. The real question is how to maintain the joy these guys are getting at the moment over the long term

Yeah it's definitely harder to level. On live in BFA I was able to level from 60-80 in two zones in North Rend and I didn't even finish all the quests in either zone. I finished 80-90 and 90-100 in one zone each. Yes that's with full heirlooms but still, it was nowhere near this fast in legion or draenor. Obviously I'm glad it's fast but I just thought I would share this.

My problem i beleave is going to be the friend making part :( Im 33 now, back when i was like 14 to 19 i use to create community's like massive CS clans, i even ran my own league for a while, and even did some radio station stuff on mIRC it was a bit like twich but only with audio. These days i dont see anyway to do anything like that other than something with discord witch i tried and failed to even get 20 people to join it. And now everything's all built into everything. play CSGO you just go to matchmaking(Competitive) and it gives you 4 friends to play with for 40 mins or so then u never talk to them again, same with WOW, LEL, DOTA, every thing. its sad. the only people i talk to online now are the people i talk to IRL. And its been so long since i needed to make friends online i dont even think i know how to anymore, I carnt be at my PC 24/7 im online from 7pm till 12pm every night other than weekends but even in them times i have to afk for 10 mins every now and again. i dont think i could even get 5 people together to run a normal instance. I’m skeptical about this because I consider myself a hardcore player who enjoys min/maxing and diving into the wikis to learn more, but I’m also big on end game. The grind to reach 60 and then find the optimal gear to raid just seems too daunting. On top of that I want to create a tank, ranged dps, healer, caster, and melee dps. How many hours do I have to sink in just to create a character that is raid ready?
@clklipfel
@clklipfel 5 жыл бұрын
Well let's stay realistic and say you will need approx 8 days /played for your first 60. Then you'll need to pre BiS and depending on your class and role in your guild farm a little for resist. You can also start to raid as soon as you reach 60 and your guild has 40 peeps capable of It. So It won't take that long to be able to raid, I would say 15-20h/week will permit you to raid until AQ, there you'll need a bit more hours. BUt if you also want to rank in PvP and do a lot of alts you'll need a lot more.
@robbytherob
@robbytherob 5 жыл бұрын
Clément Klipfel thanks for the reply. 8 days does not seem like too much. I’m a little skeptical on those numbers because the beta has been out for almost a week now and some streamers who literally play all day still haven’t hit 30 yet. Are there certain things omitted from the beta that can help accelerate leveling?
@clklipfel
@clklipfel 5 жыл бұрын
@@robbytherob On live 8-12d /played around 1.7 was something common, if you focused on xp. A speedrunner could make It less than 6 days. By 1.12 some made It less than 5 days on a new server. So imo if you focus on xp and you know the game 8-12 days does not seem unrealistic. Pservers players made It even faster. It is also dependant on your class, hunter/warlock can easily speedlevel while warrior gonna be longer. Regarding actual beta players I only watched the famous streamers and Method players and they aren't very good at Classic so doesn't surprise me they are taking so long, plus they are also doing PvP, farming dungeon, ... I guarantee that all first 60 will come from pservers players

people just thought its nostalgic but we as humans didnt change that much, just the gaming industry did. we still crave the feeling of rewardness and desire. rarity is what we long for, actually working without knowing by 1 dungeon finder you can see the endgame content. actually just having green items instead of full purple for free. actually dying when leveling lol. i recommend everyone to play on pvp servers. that feeling when a good looking other faction guy comes up to you and just 3 shots you it makes you long for revenge, it makes you long for more power, this desire, thats what WoW was and can become again. and then once u are stronger you might go back and take revenge on that orc that killed you fucking 15 days ago or his friends or his guild mates. its subverses, you drown into the world of WoW thats how everyone got so hard addicted. its not nostalgia this is actual mmorpg

In my memory the decline of WoW started with the first AddOn the DPSMeter... . This was the first step to ruin a real community. When people started not to take others with them anymore because a dwindling share of DPS was missing. So the separation of the players began ... and thus began the start of different "society classes" in WoW... which first caused the then less chance to get Equip... which then demanded the call for faster group search etc., etc., etc.. The success of the game in the repetition? Yes, I would love to. The repetitive cancer of every "culture" as soon as the greed for power begins? No, thank you

Even though there are things modern WoW does way better (art design, raid/dungeon design) it can't outweigh the negatives that come from core features of the game: Cross realms, heirlooms, scaling, loot systems, titanforging, character boosts, questing system etc.. Leveling up your character was the main part of the game and having a max level character was an actual achievement that you worked towards. Let's be honest raid encounters in vanilla are literall dogshit compared to modern raids, but what made raids still awesome is the gameplay that surrounded them. Gearing up for them, getting people FROM YOUR SERVER together to join your raid, getting buffs/mats together, having your BiS gear that you can work towards, raids didn't become useless due to catch up mechanics. I'm just hoping classic wow will finally opens the eyes for blizzard developers.

I worry about Classic. I'm excited, don't get me wrong, and it'll be fun for a long time. They'll release all the content in stages I think, releasing the raids and suck slowly over a course of time. But then what happens when Zul'gurub is out? Eventually everyone is gonna do all they want, hardcore players will gear to the max, casual players will do all the content. Eventually there's going to be nothing to do, because Classic was already released. and they moved on to a different expansion to keep things fresh; that's how they always do it. But they can't do that in this case. Unless they do make BC or WotLK servers, which will eventually just have the same problem. But maybe bu then Blizz will learn, and people will come back to retail when it's better. Who knows.
@lukyl100
@lukyl100 5 жыл бұрын
exactly, no matter how good it may be there is a definitive end to the game that doesn't exist in retail because expansions. Going to TBC would be a huge mistake imo though, if it is proven to be successful and have a high player retention for the next 2 years, there needs to be a new story and brand new expansions for classic, if it follows in the steps of previous expacs it will only lead to the same mistakes. It needs to be treated as a fresh start after Naxx, keep the difficulty, listen to the community and act accordingly.
