Truthfully, I am not a fan of the big spectacle boss fights. The only ones I liked was STRIDER and Ice Worm. I’ll 20 times out if 10 take an AC fight over the boss fights. Balteus is exceptional bullshit, because his rocket spam crashes my game every time so I had to get a friend to play my Steam to beat him so I can play the rest of the game. But despite all of that, the game is fucking amazing. I haven’t played AC since the first one before I was even 10 years old and I love this game to death

Several reviewers have said they beat the game once and then say its 15-20 hours (they got the worst ending). The game devs even before release have said its 40-50 hours. The intended full experience is to play until NG++ where you get the true ending and the true final boss.

The game literally teaches you how to use Assault Boost, and the Pulse Sword, before the tutorial boss.
@xDarkxTriviumx
@xDarkxTriviumx Жыл бұрын
That is true, however that doesn't mean that they showed it to you because it's how you beat the boss. Asmon's take on how the game lets you take a lot of different ways to reach a winning outcome also doesn't apply to the tutorial because there is no customization. Games teach you about various systems but it never means you are forced to use them unless a puzzle is designed to use a specific mechanic. If a specific mechanic is meant to be used you can usually find clues in the environment or game design to point you to the solution. In this case, the tutorial boss is quite agile with lots of damaging attacks that make you think hiding behind the environment and popping out to take pot shots is the correct choice. No one's first instinct when playing is to try to catch the aerial vehicle and hit it with a melee attack. There is no logic behind that choice because the ship far outguns you in open combat. The guy speaking to you mentions avoiding attacks by going aerial but there is no indication whatsoever that melee attacking the large VTOL ship is the way to win. The only way to figure that out is either by pure coincidence or by systematically testing every option you have one at a time. I'd say this game forgoes strategy such as planning out how to approach something and instead makes you try all different options until you see what works. This design isn't bad per-se but it's not as simple as people would like to lead others to believe. Some games approach this type of system with an "examine" option that lets you see resistances and weaknesses that actually let you plan out your moves. Not having access to that type of information means you are left to discover the weakness prior to being able to target said weakness. FromSoft games don't tend to give you that information and the point is to smash your head against the wall until you find what works. Some people like that type of design and others don't. In the end though, there is pretty much always a meta that pops up and makes almost all of that meaningless and you see 50%+ people using a super-powered build to just steamroll stuff xD TLDR: While I can agree on some parts, using an end-game build to say a tutorial boss isn't difficult when you have no customization isn't the right direction to take an argument. A big part of critical thinking is thinking from various points of view and aspects which give you a wider picture that may reveal to you what might have been missed. It's easy to think in retrospect "it's obvious this hint meant you should do this" but in the moment it's very easy to miss those types of things. That's why it's said that hindsight is 20/20. Have a great day :)

@@xDarkxTriviumx You miss the fact that the best place to be when fighting a large enemy like that isn't behind cover, it's underneath them or behind them where they can't hit you at all. Which not only is a fromsoft staple, but also one in games as a whole. You're talking about seeing things from a different pov but you're missing the obvious one, that the a large amount, if not the majority would have. Which if you do the obvious strategy, than yes, using flight and slashing at it is the obvious answer. Especially when in that point of the game you'd be seeing that the sword one shots all the base enemies. Whereas shooting enemies from a distance does low damage. You know what often is the player's first instinct? Use your highest dps on the enemy with the biggest hp bar. The game is teaching you, it's just up to the player to listen. Death is also a great teacher, nothing teaches you more than failure, and considering most of that cover is just going to get you killed or do no damage, it's a quick one. It's a trial by fire, some burn, some use the heat to push their wings and soar. This isn't new to AC, nor From titles.

Wow I never knew about the hint. It's kinda interesting, I beat the helicopter/tutorial boss first time. My game file kept corrupting so I ended up killing him 1st try 4 times (frustrating I know, but my game decided to work after that and starting saving progress). I beat the Juggernaut first time too. Balteus took me around 10 tries. The interesting part to me is the pretence - I SUCK at From Software games! Elden Ring legit took me months to complete. Margit took me around 30 goes if I remember correctly before looking up some hints regarding build. Almost every boss took atleast 2-3 deaths before being able to clear them. I was actually mindblown to see people being stuck on the tutorial boss of AC. Maybe I'm suited to the more fast-past combat of AC? maybe AC is easier? Or harder? who knows? It's all relative I suppose.

Yeah.. I think mechanical skill and adaptability are separate. The game also isn't very mechanically demanding compared to Elden Ring or Sekiro but due to having mechanics that aren't seen in most games you still have to learn and adapt to how Armored Core 6 works at some point. The two big walls I am going to bring up is the Helicopter in mission 1. People should learn to use the environment and the basic mechanics. By the time you reach Balteus you should either have a greater understanding of the mechanics like Assault Boosting in to reduce distance and damage taken or learning how to counter enemies as pulse weapons shred energy shields and even say so in their descriptions OR abuse builds, double shotguns into double artillery makes quick work of most tough encounters and I personally think this is fine since not everyone has the luxury of spending a lot of time on a game OR they could just find it fun, the build diversity in this game and ease of swapping is great in my opinion so you can "build" your difficulty or preferred playstyle even if it's not optimal. I've S ranked pretty much every mission using only Melee (Pile Bunker my beloved) but on the final boss of the secret ending I caved in and used double Zimmermans (Shotguns) into double Needles (the weapon you get from the worm fight) and close range/fire arms specialization. With only melee I ended up 1 more hit from winning on multiple occasions but I gave up after 15-ish tries but the shotgun+artillery build did it in one go which was a bit disappointing but I'll take the win for now until I want to retry it in a more rewarding way. Certain builds just trivialize the game.

Same as when some people say some video game cutscenes or in game moments are 'emotional' but if you take away the music they're genuinely nothing. about the game ending criticism, I guess the endings in AC6 works like Nier Automata and other japanese games (except weirdly Dark Souls) where the endings are not adjacent, but building on eachother. Like, to get the complete story of nier automata you have to beat it 3 times. And Nier handled it really good because all the side quests carry over to NG, you only have to speed through the story missions and they are a little different on NG so it's not boring, you're playing through different perspectives. But unless you try it out for yourself, the only thing you take from that is "oh I have to play it through 2 more times? f that."

I've just completed all S-ranks. And I can say that this game being hard for most is very generous in terms of conditions for this S-ranking. Sometimes you need to be very fast and in fact speedrun the level. But boss fights are very easy to S-rank. Actually some of them don't even have a checkpoint to restart from. You need just beat him and S-rank is guaranteed. Every second mission has it's own additional condition to usual speed/ammo economy/minimized damage. But they are pretty easy to achieve too. In fact a person that finished a game 3 times can already be qualified as knowing person. So if you want to go all S-ranks but think that it's impossible - go try it nonetheless. You'll be surprised. Unless you screwed up very hard game can give you S-rank even if you weren't perfect.

@@aggis3237 very forgiving. You can be left with 2-3k hp on a bossfight and still be given an S. In very long missions condition is not speed. It's survival. Do whatever you want but don't die. And don't resupply on sherpas. 70-80% of S ranks are easier on light mech. Actually I did most of them first or second try. The only 2 missions I had to think with my brain were that ambush and Michigan fight. On michigan you must not only survive but save as much health as you can (I was left with 4k AP and 2 repair kits). AC fights are very easy on something heavy with melee weapon and big firepower. Short missions are usually either speed or minimized damage. Or both. Ah, and bring up at least 1 melee weapon with you if you can use it well.

the reason the multiple endings adds to the runtime, when it doesn't in BG3, is because you need to get the first two endings to unlock the third. Clearly intended to be a continuous playthrough, as opposed to BG3 needing multiple character saves to get different endings.

It’s not just the decision missions. There are so many missions that only get added on a second playthrough that aren’t just the other mission choice and even more that only make it into a third playthrough. I have probably doubled my original clear mission roster at this point and I’m not even finished with my third run yet. It’s definitely a much larger game than meets the eye in a single clear.

you should always quantify things to full understand what you're doing or spending money on. $60 game = 20 hours of gameplay Or $60 meal at an "okay" restaurant that will satiate your hunger for 6-12 hours depending. Or $60 movie tickets to a 1 hour and 30 min film, in IMAX, with good seats and snacks. Or $60 on drinking a couple alcoholic beverages at a bar or club for a single 3-5 hour night. It makes the entire argument moot when you realize what $60 actually gets you outside of video games. $60 for a 20 hour experience is a fucking steal. Even tickets to fucking disney land for 60 bucks doesn't come close to the 20 hour mark of enjoyment. But the main point is, you shouldn't be looking at things by the hour, you can spend more time in the game and pad out those hours, did you get S rank in every mission? Have you unlocked every part? Did you see every ending? If hours spent is all that matters, maybe complain after you've spent as many hours as you possibly can completing the available content. Not to mention the potentially endless hours that can be spent in PvP. The only thing that makes a game worth it's price tag is if it's a good game. Nothing else matters. I'd spend 60 bucks on a perfect game that only lasted 2 hours in a heartbeat.

i love from software, my first big game i ever got into was dark souls 2 when i was 12. One thing that game taught me that almost really every game teaches but dark souls a little more so was a quick time reaction, if i didn't roll to the side in the proper frame or make a button stroke properly on my controller, that was it, you died. It is something to learn, i'd say it added inherent difficulty, but a difficulty that after a long time of mastering the games system and developing a better reaction time, you can overcome. However any of these games, if you have no frame of playing high stakes combat games then you're just gonna lose, over and over and over again. Most people just get mad and say the game is too hard and stop playing, yeah, the games systems are hard, but it's the games system, it was designed for you to learn it so it isn't hard anymore. And that can branch of so you have experience in the next game. Keep it up Asmon

To be fair about the game being too "hard." I found the game to be a bullet hell by the first few bosses, and spammed dodge to avoid them, so when bosses introduced delayed lasers, I thought the way to avoid it was by saving my dash so I could spam dash away. It took me until the last 2 bosses to realize I was handling many of the attacks incorrectly due to the intense tracking on attacks. Really this is no different from a delayed attack in elden ring, but the lack of I-frames made me focus on staying away and spam dashing out of the way.

ive played the game for around 24 hours and im still not finished, lol. theres so many builds to try out, pvp is genuinly fun and some missions even have hidden enemies and caches to find. and to be completly honest, the story is still longer (if you play it for the first time) than any halo game out there, even if you casualy play them on legendary (took me around 10~ hours for most halo campaigns), and people still praise those games and are mostly fine with the duration. and just like halo or any other shooter for that matter, ac6 has a very fun pvp you can put in countless hours. the difficulty of the game i think is just fine. usually if you fuck up on a boss its either because youre to slow to evade or because you have a less effective build. imo the tutorial boss teaches this to you really well. if you just stay away and shoot the gun you will have a bad time, but as soon as you move in and use your melee (either to just deal dmg or to stagger) its suddenly very easy.

I think what some people don't understand is that Armored Core has always been more of a completionist game. While there have been some very difficult entries(ie. last raven) its more about learning the ins and outs of the game and building stuff that can "break" it and give you advantages so you can S rank all the missions. You are supposed to become the elite AC shredding everything. Hence the replay mission function and massive amounts of weapons and parts you don't get till later in the game. With all that being said, I do think that this entry made needles and shotguns a far too powerful, allowing you to walk through some bosses and missions which would otherwise be incredibly difficult.

You fight Slime, you use magic instead of physical atk and so on. In AC6, if you meet something thin/small and fast that usually crumble like paper, you don't use missile or laser on it, instead of that you use Shotgun, charge on it then blast it's face off, simple as that. why the hell people can't use a little bit of their brain to think? Now on my 5th playthru i regularly come back just to smack him around for giving me a hard time, using some of the most ass mechs i can fabricate Just yesterday i showed up to the fight looking like a dumpster from some east side detroit back alley that just got up and walked in, i used the ludlow mg, Bu-tt/a pulse blade, Su-tt/c shield, the starter quad missile launcher, the full jailbreak mech with the kikaku booster, p01 fcs, and the yaba generator, and i painted that pukebucket with dark brown and green and covered in rust. The whole fight ended in just under 2 minutes and I only used one repair kit by the end of it So the lesson here is it really ain that hard... you just gotta git gud, really. Figuring out how the boss does their moves, learning what to do and how to avoid getting slammed into the dirt, and knowing when to attack their openings is all where its at. 7:38 "people don't want to adapt and change their playstyle" - well it is all about that. Like a lot of things in life, not just fromsoftware games, things get harder quite often when you are stubborn and continue to do the same stuff that didn't work before.

The difficulty in AC 6 really depends on how you play it, you can absolutely cheese every boss and level by perfectly optimizing your build for it, but if you don't do that it can be a challenging game, not absurdly so, but still challenging.

Armoured core isn't hard but it's an EXCELLENT GAME... I ABSOLUTELY LOOOOVEEEE that fromsoft can one year create the BEST FANTASY DUNGEON CRAWLER RPG... Next year....the ABSOLUTELY BEST SHINOBI game ever made.....shoutout to Gaiden... And this year have made the BEST MECHA GAME out there.... They are always STYLISH and instead of utilizing big face or voice actors, or green screen actors like other AAA games....they keep it lowkey and focus on out of this world GAMEPLAY...that keeps replayability very high everytime... Its just insane.... I hate brand loyalty...and make it a thing to never adhere to it... Except for this company... Well done...

First boss when going into out of bounds drove me crazy! Although it was also my first boss and it taught me quite a bit about enemy placement on the map. It made me better once I won.

Yeah, the first boss was nuts, I sent two days on it. The problem is there is only one solution for the first boss but after the first boss, there are multiple solutions to any boss.

Showing that a boss can be cheesed/beat easily doesn’t mean the game isn’t hard imo

As a long time Armored Core fan, who picked up OG Demons’ Souls at launch and has been on the Soulsborne train ever since, I don’t really want the guy who made the video representing me or the community. Not Asmon, I’m talking about the video creator. The guy spends a good deal of time talking about how these games aren’t for everyone, but how that doesn’t mean they have to change or make themselves more accessible for people who don’t quite “get them.” He tries to make this argument by talking shit about other great games merely because those people he doesn’t like might like those games instead. Zero self awareness, no understanding of the medium as a broad landscape capable of encompassing differing narrative and gameplay styles. And I get the feeling he’s probably spent waaaaay too many hours of his limited lifespan bitching about “objectivity in games journalism.” And he really needs to knock it off with the git gud crap. You can’t try to positively reclaim something that has been memed to death and is still being actively used by the sweatiest redditors to unironically talk shit. And if difficulty is his measure of a good game, he clearly hasn’t played grounded encounters in TLOU2, makes a RL1 run in Elden Ring look like a fucking picnic by comparison.

I usually walk away during story segments now… for AC6 I didn’t. Every story detail made me curious or shocked in a good way. Gameplay > Story nowadays anyways… not that I don’t like a good story but I appreciate fromsofts delivery. Make me curious enough to want to know… and then go from there!

About the endings. Asmon is just.. wrong. You have to do multiple playthroughs. Because each playthrough will give you more. Its not that it has different endings, but those endings only become available at NG or NG+. Its designed this way.

With the exception of two bosses (Balteus and CEL 240) I think most bosses could be beaten within 30-1 hour if you were flexible with your designs and learned their move-sets. Balteus is difficult because he is present near the beginning, and his combination of high health and difficult to dodge missiles make him very dangerous. And CEL-240 having two stages just makes every mistake way more costly and damning. Combined with the fact she has some very tricky timing with her attacks, and it can be very tricky to beat her. I haven’t finished NG++ yet, but I assume that unless you are fighting more than one boss, this rule generally holds true.

Regarding counting the different endings of AC6 for playtime: The difference between it and Baldurs Gate 3 is that the NG+ and NG++ still offer reasons to keep playing them. Youre not playing them again just to see what you could have done different, NG+ unlocks more parts and more missions, and NG++ has a completely different story going on in the background of the story you played in the first two. Its more of a different scenario than a replay, even though many of the missions are the same. The only reason to play BG3 again is to see what you could have done differently or content you missed, but you play AC6 again and a third time to see new stories you couldnt possibly see the first time.

Many people want an easy mode or a story mode in every game because they feel entitled to it simply because they paid for the thing. They're like "I bought it so I can't be bothered to exert any effort to actually play it now, I already exchanged effort for money". It doesn't work like that, you doofus XD

One of the biggest challenges in this game is to overcome the dissonance between what you observe and what your fingers do. It's crazy how experienced I should be in gaming and yet how I completely fumbled my timing when shooting.

The whole idea about the from soft dose with there games is prolong the amount of hours put into a first run and make the game as massive as possible that when you reach the ending new game + the experience and the skill set is very smooth now, the first level instead of dying 3 times you make it though once no dying and the next game also has new stuff for you to play though the game a second time. It’s a pretty quick game to Finnish but there’s just about as much content as the campaign to do on the other part

Wanna add that using game length as a metric for good games is also in part why we have that games become tedious and long for no good reason, because metrics can confuse production.
@helrazr44
@helrazr44 Жыл бұрын
On the note of rating games on length. I feel like we lost the plot and forgot that games used to be like 3 hours for the entire game. I think games have gotten too massive that I kinda don't want to stick to them. There is a forgotten value to a game taking 9 hours to beat with another 3-6 hours of extra content, not sticking around for too long, making starting over, or playing newgame+ more enticing.

In Armored Core "git gud" has a bit of a different context. It's not being said in the spirit of "git gud, scrub." It's in the spirit of "Git gud, I want a GOOD fight."

Im really hoping for from soft to use this success to finally make a scifi soulslike in space, and also soft reboot of armored core or at least another armored core thats not numbered to begin a new chapter so people who never played aren't put off by jumping into a part 6 or 7
