Nothing really gave me the satisfaction I used to have from playing games. Elden Ring blew my mind, in every aspect, storywise, combat wise, the world, the loot, the bosses, the enemies, the vast variety of melee attacks, spells, your incantations you can find. The side quests that build and build upon eachother. The levelling system is brilliant, it isn't overly complicated and isn't too simple. This game is quite literally the Goldilocks game of the century, it isn't too much or too little. There is no right or wrong way to play this game as long as the user is having an enjoyable experience. On another note, though. It does seem like certain bosses are designed with summoning in mind. I can already tell I'm going to do multiple play throughs. First really great game in years that feels like they put so much effort into and polished it up. Only issue I've been having is some fps drops in some areas on pc. I'm on almost all max settings, but super beefy pc. The framerate seems choppy though sometimes and it the camera updates it's position off frame or something as you move it view around. I didn't have this happen in Sekiro on PC, the background was always really smooth when rotating camera around character no matter where I was standing. The stuttering can make me kind of dizzy so I had to turn off motion blur and just focus on my character as I pan around quickly. I have a 1080ti, 3200mhz 32gb ram, 12900k, on a 144Hz monitor so I can see the frame stutter more significantly. I shouldn't be seeing frames and choppy surroundings when I move the camera around.

Also, considering this can be fixed in like a month max easily on the software side of thing, while the criticism is justified, it means that the only widespread issue on PC is going to be resolved soon. While FromSoft could've addressed this problem sooner, it still makes me 100% more empathetic towards the problem in the first place. It's not really the coders fault for being forced, at the last second, to change something because of the executives 1 month late decision. Also, if you have a strong PC, you can manually fix the issues on your end, meaning the criticism isn't nearly as justified as it sounds (it shouldn't really warrant a 60% positive review on Steam). If you get stuck in a spot in the game, or you get stuck on a boss, simply step back into the world and start grinding. Figure out what you need for your character, as far as summons or whatever else. It makes a big difference later and it makes the fight a little bit easier. Upgrade your gear, upgrade your weapons. Whatever you have to do. The game gives you options, that’s what makes it better. For example, I had a hard time beating the Fell Omen. So I went back to beat some more optional bosses, went to the south of Limgrave in Weeping Peninsula and took on the begotten, the variant bosses of the begotten (one looking damn similar to a chimera), took on an erd tree boss, went back to the lake in Limgrave. I had taken on Agheel the white dragon, managed to kill him in two tries. With his heart, I went to the dragon communion on the little island south of the map and obtained fire breath by sacrificing the dragon heart. I went back to Storm Hill and found a cemetery full of floating jellyfish and obtained a decent summon for Godrick’s soldiers. Also another for undead skeleton warriors by beating Tibia Mariner, and went to find Patches by accident beforehand on the way up to Stormhill. I collected his ball bearing. I didn’t know that you could spare him. But I took the ball bearing to the round table hold to recover the inventory. And I seen the shackle availed for the fell omen. Once I had all of that ready, I went back and was able to dance with him. I was also a bit stronger since I had graded and leveled up more stats, and also upgraded my weapons with smithing stones.

Nope, try 140. I tried to find as much as I could on my own until the final boss, but as I googled what I missed, I realized I completely skipped entire zones and some fairly major bosses even. One of the biggest, most dense singleplayer games I've ever played. Now I understand why there's copy/paste bosses and dungeons. If they had to design a unique boss each time, the game would probably had to have been delayed well into the next generation and might not have come to PS4 at all.

I knew within 30 minutes of playing Elden Ring that it was truly something special. It just has a quality that is ultra rare in gaming these days. It’s the culmination of all of Froms past successes mixed with a fresh new take on the formula, and it’s just a stunning achievement.
@Gaudrix2 жыл бұрын
Yeah the game isn't super ambitious or complicated in terms of systems, but just feels so good to play. FromSoftware have been consistently improving since they started making games. You can actually see the games improving in quality and content from their first rpg they made to Sekiro. Each game they improved upon the previous iteration and polished everything to a higher standard as well. It's rare to have game companies that are around for as long as FromSoftware has been around and to just keep pumping out so many solid games. No stupid battle passes or micro transactions like the rest of the industry ruining their brands for short term gain. The world needs more games like Elden Ring and not more money making machines pretending to be a game. The industry needs to go back to making passionate art that resonates with the user and not time wasting/gated treadmills that are vacuuming up money from customers. A customer who quits an addictive and manipulative game will eventually leave bitter towards the company and never buy another product from them. Meanwhile a customer who thoroughly enjoyed their experience and didn't feel used will buy anything that company makes for their entire life. Seems like a much better long term business model. You make product A and the customer likes product A and so you make product B and the customer buys product B because they liked A. You get to continue making games which you love to do and the customer gets to wholeheartedly enjoy what you make. Shame that most companies sole motive is profit when instead it should be on providing the best product/service and profit is just the result. Companies optimize to have the highest profits regardless of how that affects quality. Thankfully, FromSoftware stills operates with the idea that they want to make the best game that they can make right now instead of wanting to make the most money that they can make right now unlike many others, *cough* Activision Blizzard.

I love Elden Ring but I think this dude forgets how huge Boletaria is. No fucking way Stormveil is bigger than 1/5 of the entirety of Demon's Souls.

I keep seeing videos about how this game is such a masterpiece, basically for the open world, graphics, combat/gameplay... but not much about the storyline. It'd be a letdown for me if I pay full price for this game and there isn't a great story.

That thing about things being trivial when ur overleveled, I didn't do any of the story for ages. I was just exploring. I reached level 60 and eventually decided to do the story. Obviously I destroyed Margit and godrick so easily. I was definitely overleveled. I had actually found a lot of the map before even attempting stormveil. Cos the world is so immersive

i've generally always had the opinion soulsborne games are dumb. never saw the alure of games being hard for the sake of being hard. never had any interest to even try any of them. that being said, i played elden ring last night, and the last time a game had me waking up and wanting to play it, and thinking about it all day, was elder scrolls oblivion.
@intergalacticspacewizard19662 жыл бұрын
Soulsborne games were never hard for the sake of being hard, they are challenging but fair games in an industry that only provides easy games that are a breeze to get through. Look up kaizo Mario or "I wanna be that guy" if you want to see games that are designed to be hard just to be hard
@SolidShepard2 жыл бұрын
@@intergalacticspacewizard1966 you know what i mean. they are punishing. generally spending all my gaming time on 1 single boss on a given night is not my idea of enjoyable. and my biggest fear of dying in games is having to backtrack or watch unskippable cutscenes. the other fromsoftware games are absolutely full of dying and backtracking. its terrible rookie game design. luckily in elden ring, they addressed that. i know you dont want to hear this, but the games before this one were terrible games. people played them so they could say they beat them, not because they liked them.

Elden Ring is what happens when a company actually focuses on making a great game and nothing else matters. Iterate and improve on what you have made so far and polish it smooth baby. They don't need famous actors as characters or convoluted systems to trick you into playing. Just good solid game design and a game that actually feels fun. What happened to games actually being enjoyable instead of ploys to take as much money as they can get from you? I'm only 15 hours in and the game just feels different. I quit Assassin's Creed Odyssey after only 25 hours because it just felt lifeless. If I can pay money to skip parts of the game, then that means the game isn't that good and not seen as content by the game developer as it's not essential to actual enjoyment. Why is it in the game then? I paid to play the game, not to skip the game I've already paid for as I expected exciting content worth paying for. It's like starting a TV show and then at the beginning they give you an option to pay 10 dollars to watch a summary and just skip to the only good things in the show that matter. Why watch the fucking show if you literally aren't watching the show!? I can already tell I'm going to put a lot of time into Elden Ring. I love the simplistic HUD, you can just look at the world and be immersed instead of constantly looking at markers and UI explaining what you are looking at.

dang chat was being weird, but I don't think most were hating just to hate - the reviewer was simply laying it on way too thick - I don't think people would be as annoyed with him if he'd toned it down 20% and made it simply "this is what I like about it" instead of "omg no one's ever down this before!" to things that should be baseline expectations in games - it seriously felt like he just doesn't know much about games and finally found an alright one
