My father's name was Pasquale and mother's name Annina. We migrated to Australia in the early 60's. Mum and dad used to tell me they kissed the ground they walked on in Australia as life was good to them, giving them fruits of their labour never imaginable, although they occasionally also missed the old country. Everything I see in nonna and nonno reminds of my mamma and papa. Love this channel and Vanessa's channel. Models of what it is to be Italian with that lovely immigrant influence. Just beautiful. Keep doing what you do, it makes me smile and so, so happy!!! Ciao tutti e tanti bacioni!!!

Nonna, this meal looks very delicious!!! It also looks easy. Thank you, ma'am. Nonno, I agree - if you are bored, then it is a sign that perhaps you are not being creative enough. I'd also like to say that it is okay to be bored sometimes. Some parents do not allow themselves or their children to sit with that uncomfortable feeling that arises out of being bored. But it is robbing the child of the chance to think of something creative to do, or to develop more patience.

Just subscribed and am having flashbacks of my Italian grandparents and extended ‘family’ 😉. There are so many similarities - it’s like a big hug. I miss meals at the big table and the hours afterwards with the loud conversation, laughter, talking all at once. It wasn’t until i was an adult, I realized that not every family was like that and how lucky we were.

... I'm going to try this, looks delicious ... (however; my Italian step-mom always, always 'soaked' the Egg Pant with salt for @ 45-90 minutes, drew the bitterness out), perhaps the source of heartburn ... I'll do it both ways ... Thanx for the Pod-cast ... 😊

Julian, I admire you and your entire family _tremendously_ . Nonna, will you make stuffed Bell Peppers? Any color is fine. I have a folder with many of your recipes saved. Have you considered doing some videos all in Italian? Nonna & Nonno could say whatever they want and then put some English subtitles for the recipe or whatever. It would be good practice and fun for Italian speakers and students. Maybe Julian could learn how to say "Hey Nonna, whaddaya doing?!" in Italian too! 😁 Call them the "Cosa fai?" videos.
@Jen7867Ай бұрын
Yes! "Hey Nonna, what are you making today?" That would be really cute. I'd like to see that. I know maybe 3 words in Italian, so maybe I could pick up a few words. (Now I am wondering if they speak Italian, English, or a mixture of both when the cameras are off?)

I have never heard of stuffed eggplant but this looks delicious!! I don’t usually care for eggplant but I know I would love this!!! 💯👌👍 For some reason I think I’m a lot younger than your grandparents until I realize we’re only 10-15 years apart! My childhood was much the same, not much time inside except winter, no tv, party line phone and no answering machine! Use your imagination to make up things to do, ride bikes all over, climb trees, roller skate in the street or sidewalk in summer and build snow forts, snowmen, have snowball fights in the winter. When you can’t do either, play board games or read. We had FUN!! 👏👌👍👵🏻💕

I love watching your videos. I'm actually half italian, and I never met my grandparents who were from Italy - they passed away before my father got married to my mother. I often wonder what kind of people they were, what kind of foods they made, and how they interacted with each other. I'd like to think that maybe they'd be like yours :) it's fun to watch the foods they made and the stories they tell.

The heartburn occurs because the already cooked pomodoro sauce is cooked again for 45+ minutes creating concentrated acid. Bake the stuffed eggplant (cut in half to lay open faced), drizzle olive oil, and then parmigiana it at the end with fresh sauce.
@LakeOuachita2 күн бұрын
Add apple cider vinegar 1 tsp to 1 cup water…acid/heartburn is the result of not enough acid in the tummy…the ACV will add needed acid to help digestion and calm the heartburn….

In my little village in southern Italy they make them in slices. The aubergines are cut into slices and then two slices of aubergines with the filling in the middle (sandwich style). Once the filling is placed in the middle of the slices, they are then fried a little in oil and then placed in the tomato sauce to cook them. Stuffed eggplants are something I'm crazy about ! Since I was a child they have always been my favorite dish.

Anything from nonna or Italian. Is good for me🎉🎉❤❤ Well you know why you get heartburn, because you are SUPPOSED to salt the Eggplant and LET the bitterness from it drain! We always do that, and the pulp of the eggplant we scoop out and boil a bit. It needs to be very cooked... not raw, its not zucchini which is sweet.. Just wondering who taught nonna to cook. Are these recipes from her mom. We actually put ground veal parsley and good amount of pecorino cheese 🧀
