In an EMDR therapy session, you are supposed to be watching the therapist's fingers. They usualy try to sit out of your main field of vision, in your peripherals. They're trying to keep from your focus going to your face. When it's on their fingers but you're thinking about the thoughts, feelings, or physical feelings associated with whatever part of the process you're at, it lets the reprocessing of the memory get done. If your attention moves to their face it's usually counterproductive to that purpose.

It's probably a good thing she keeps her face in the video and, to a degree, breaks some of the immersiveness (at least at the level of the use of methods present in actual EMDR). Attempted EMDR between a trauma therapist and their client/patient gone wrong can be a dangerous thing. Reprocessing making a memory processed worse than originally, or partially processed, can be pretty disruptive for someone, especially the more severe the trauma is...

Hello Karuna, I am a QMHA II and I currently manage unlicensed facilities for adults with SPMIs. I am also a peer who has cPTSD. And for my flashbacks and physical responses the cognitive behavioral therapy was not tackling it (research suggests it may be because I am autistic), I had been going to counseling for five years. Then I read about EMDR in college. I wrote my thesis on ASMR and PTSD in college- how the meridian response stops the fight or flight response. I am a case study myself, I have learned how to make my body have the ASMR on demand whenever I am activated. I received an A though most other professionals would not place much credence to the concept. You may not be a licensed counselor but your EMDR mixed with ASMR is phenomenal. This is good work, this is amazing. I will write about your videos when getting my master's. And on a personal level I thank you for all of your ASMR EMDR videos. This is the perfect combination for PSTD. I watch these every night before bed.
@LawofMosesHere2 жыл бұрын
Hi, I’m an AMFT/APCC here, just finished my masters in counseling psychology. I’m curious how you are licensed in mental health but don’t have a Masters Degree? What is your licensure? I too enjoy this video she made; however I think my concern is that EMDR certification typically recommended for mental health professionals who have the higher level of education in order to provide on the spot crisis counseling, risk assessments, etc along with many other ethical and moral standards. Simply taking a few classes without this may lead to unintended but serious consequences with those with serious repressed or blocked psychological traumas. While EMDR may be helpful for trauma, my understanding is complex trauma is not only best processed with therapies such as DBT, narrative therapy, brief eclectic therapy and perhaps also EMDR, they should be conducted by licensed or associate licensed mental health professionals which include MFT, PCC or psychologists. Less than this is risky.

@erichan28105 жыл бұрын
@@iseeyouurloved1703 It depends! Emdr works as long as your eye muscles are activated but the typical way is to follow the therapist's fingers. There's also a lot of finger snapping (that's my go-to with my therapist) and there can be also knee touching, from one knee to another, but I don't like it because when someone suddenly touches me it alerts me, even if I know it's going to happen. I was seated beside my little brother. The girl came around to make sure we were all set before it took off. And right before it started my little brother was like “I don’t think it’s tight enough “. But there wasn’t time to do anything. I remember being on that ride and not enjoying myself at all because I was too focused on making sure nothing was gonna happen to him. someone could decompensated, and/or become severely deregulated by processing repressed or subconscious traumas, including suicide and or psychosis. This is a not a safe thing for KZbin, certified or not. The reason EMDR is actually only certifiable for already associate or licensed MFT/PCCs such as myself is because it literally has ethical, legal and moral repercussions which requires education and clinical supervision.

Hey, I don’t know if you are a Bible reader or where your religious/spiritual beliefs stem, but, I am a Bible reader and inside it reveals a wonderful, wonderful hope for those who have died. There are scriptures that support the understanding that your mother is simply resting, as if in a deep sleep, and will one day be resurrected, and you can see her again. I don’t want to load this reply with a bunch of scriptures and force anything down your throat, but if you’d like to see a few scriptures to comfort you I’d love to share what comforts me. I’m so so sorry for what happened, and terrible things happen in this world 24/7, I am so sorry you had to be someone who saw this part of the world.

thank you so much karuna! since im terrified of going to therapy, this really helps. ever since i was diagnosed with anxiety because of my emotionally abusive family, i have never really gone to get any help. im just too afraid. the only thing that really helped me calm down was my pet, but they took that away from me. my friends did help, not as much as my pets, but they did help, but my family took that away too. i wasnt allowed to text them or go out at any time to talk to them so i could feel comfortable, even though they live a short way away from me. this video really helps calm me down and get in my own headspace, if that makes sense. i really do thank you from the bottom of my heart for making this video. love you sarah! 😊

I understand. When I was in 9th grade my father became abusive and ever since then I've been diagnosed with anxiety and depression. My father and I are on "ok" terms but we don't talk that much. But my dog helps my anxiety a lot. Even when I break down crying my dog comes up to me and let's me hug him for as long as I need. And I've had counselors in the past but they've never helped because I would never talk to them about these kinds of things that happened.

Benjamin Caron One of my friend’s who’s majoring in psych / to be a therapist / has had sessions with clients said it’s like hypnotism, in a sense. Also... Legitimate question- if I have lazy eyes (one eye that strays more than the other), could EMDR actually work for someone with lazy eyes ?? It’s been brought up with me, with past therapists. But sometimes I forget I have lazy eyes + legitimately have wondered if / how it works with people with lazy eyes...
@scarletclough5 жыл бұрын
heyitssjace it doesnt involve too much of your eyes.
@siennapotter69065 жыл бұрын
heyitssjace it actually can be done without your eyes being open at all!! They have these vibration devices that you hold in your hands and you close your eyes and they go off at a pretty rapid pace back and forth and therefore allows your eyes and brain to go through the same processing procedure that it does if you did it traditionally with your eyes open! I have done EMDR both ways and can attest to it personally(:
@siennapotter69065 жыл бұрын
heyitssjace however I wouldn’t exactly agree with saying it doesn’t have much to do with your eyes. It has a lot to do with your eyes. You do most of your processing and decoding in your sleep and when we’re talking about sleep we have REM where your eyes are moving at a rapid pace so in order for EMDR to work you have to bring the trauma to the forefront and essentially relive it emotionally and then use your very rapid eye movement and the instruction of a certified therapist to re-sort the information into what was important in that moment and what was unimportant which then disassociates the trauma from the facts. So your eye movement is important but it’s not important in the sense that a lazy eye would stop the treatment from working because it can be done with your eyes closed. Hope this helps!!
@heyitssjace5 жыл бұрын
ThiccAssmr ThiccAssmr thanks for the info! I never knew you could do it with your eyes closed. Every therapist has described it to me as your eyes need to be open. Also, since you’ve done both versions, would you say they work as equally?

I’m a huge fan of ASMR and watch a lot of different artists in the community, but you are by far my favorite. You have a personal touch to all of your videos (even silly ones) that is just simply beyond compare. I can tell without a doubt that you truly care about the people that watch your videos and even though we have never met, you feel like one of my closest friends. I’ve been a fan for what now feels like forever and have been hooked since watching your first video. I always love your videos, but have never commented before. I always see the wonderful comments that other people leave and especially enjoy the ones where people share about how much you’ve helped them and this video compelled me to finally share myself. I have always struggled a lot with mental illness and your channel has helped me so much through this. I watch your videos all the time to relax, to fall asleep, for a laugh, for an escape, to help panic attacks, for a friend, and so much more. I feel like I have made a lot of positive progress in my mental health journey, but as of recently I’ve been going through the worst that I have ever experienced as I struggle to come to terms with some past trauma that has finally surfaced. This particular video came up in my recommendations since I’m subscribed and watch you almost daily and I decided to click j̶u̶s̶t̶ because I saw a familiar friendly face. I had no idea what this video was about or what I was in for. Over the years, therapy has helped me very minimally (I don’t want to discount therapy for anyone that benefits from it, but in my personal experience it hasn’t been very effective), so I’m always very skeptical when people talk about different methods and whatnot. I figured I would still watch it though because at the very least it would be relaxing. Boy, was I wrong! I was finally able to talk about all of my trauma after wanting to for so long, but not finding myself able to and that itself was so relieving. But when you started plucking the trauma away I could feel myself becoming physically lighter. It felt like this huge weight that I’ve been carrying for so long had finally lifted from my shoulders and the relief I feel is absolutely indescribable! Anyways, sorry for the long rant, but I j̶u̶s̶t̶ felt that I needed to share because of how much you’ve helped me over the past few years and how thankful I am for your channel and our family. I love you all so much and, Sarah, thank you for being the amazingly compassionate and caring person that you are. Please never change.

It’s been occasional in the past, but the past month or so it’s been nightly without fail. These videos help me get past it before I go to bed so that I don’t suddenly start thinking of it and get stuck in an endless mess of thoughts. Thank you so much, finding these again came at a perfect time since I start school next week.

I watch this video several times a week/month. As for the current situation, using your privilege to bring attention to the plight of the unprivileged is admirable. Not everyone would. Take your own time. For all you've done to help anyone willing to listen and watch, take as much time as you need. Everyone makes mistakes but not everyone owns up to them or asks for forgiveness. I hope you are forgiven, and that you both find peace. I appreciate you. Anyone else reading this: Threats on one's life completely contradicts the ideology of the Black Lives Matter movement happening right now, regardless of who is being threatened. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are not rights for only one nation, state, or group of people, but everyone. Hang in there, Ms. Satori! ❤️ ✊🏾

Loved the video, but EMDR requires the eyes to track back and forth. During the video you instructed us not to look at the light or your fingers and simply focus on your eyes. It was very relaxing, but EMDR works by engaging both sides of the brain through moving the eyes left and right.
@kareneatsjoey14 жыл бұрын
I wonder if she did that on purpose, because even with a trained therapist, actual EMDR can make your PTSD worse before it gets better, and if someone were to use this video instead of a therapist they might accidentally 'reprogram' their brain more negatively
