Are you learning the basics of acid-base chemistry? What is the different between Arrhenius and Brønsted-Lowry acids & bases? How do neutralization reactions work? What’s the difference between a formula equation, an ionic equation, and a net (ionic) equation? I’ll talk about all of these topics-plus show you my new rad clothlike periodic table!
Topics:
- Arrhenius acids and bases
- Brønsted-Lowry acids and bases
- Formula equations
- Ionic equations
- Net ionic equations
- Neutralization reactions

@@ASMRChemistryI do not have any specific requests, just keep doing what you're doing. And if I'm being honest I'm not just using these videos as a source of information, I also have sleeping issues and I need certain atmosphere, sounds to fall asleep. Your voice is really calming. Plus I've always said to my chemo teacher that her subject takes a lot of energy, and you have to concentrate in order to understand the assignment and that kind of makes me sleepy. So I just searched chemistry asmr, started listening to fall asleep, plus absorbing the information. I heard even when you're falling asleep and listening to something, that information kind of gets tattooed into your subconscious mind and it gets easier to remember that.

Do you have a video that goes over pH? I understand that's the measurement of the H+ concentration, but I'm confused about how H2O is a molecular compound but disassociates like an ionic compound.
@ASMRChemistry

What a great question! Wow, you’ve really made me realize that I need to make more videos on pH. Currently I have only one. Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention! I’ll make one soon that addresses your question. In the meantime, here is the link to the video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/maeoloqVrrGXesksi=4PlRWBNeaIjvV6Ra

To start to answer your question, some molecular compounds (like acids) have a weak enough O-H bond that allows the H+ to dissociate. The H+ actually is H3O+, but for calculations, it works to treat it like H+.

Won't the spectator ions form salts though? In my school textbook we have been taught that acids and bases react to form salt and water
@ASMRChemistry
@ASMRChemistry 10 ай бұрын
Good question! When combining a strong acid and strong base, it is generally true that they form a soluble salt and water. However, if one or both of the reactants are a weak acid/base, the reaction is generally just a hydrogen ion transfer from the acid to the base. There are other types of more complex acid-base reactions, too, as you progress in your chemistry studies! Lots of fun stuff to look forward to!😃
