Interstate 290 West - Eisenhower Expressway - Chicago, Illinois - October, 2022

Drivelapse video of Interstate 290, the Eisenhower Expressway heading westerly from the Chicago Loop and Circle Interchange.
The video starts on Interstate 94, the Dan Ryan Expressway, from the Stony Island Interchange and heads north towards the Chicago Loop. At the Circle Interchange, the video heads westerly from I-290 to where Interstate 88 splits at the Tri-State Tollway. We then follow Interstate 88 westerly to west of the Interstate 355 interchange at Napierville.

The I-90/I-94 combined section is just awesome with the local/express lanes and the Chicago skyline up ahead. The trains running in between the highway medians are very cool too, reminds me of Perth here in Australia which also has suburban trains running in between some of its expressways.

Couldn't agree more! I’m not sure running trains within the median makes for the best for urban design, but they very are cool to look at.

The Hillside Strangler Interchange sure needs upgrades and better ramp flows. It will take years to finish that to help easy freeway traffic in Chicagoland. Also, after passing through that interchange as you entered I-88 IL, you crossed the county line just west of the interchange leaving Cook County and entering Chicagoland's most suburbanized county, DuPage County.

There is some history about I-290 IL. Back then, before 1978, it was a former section of I-90 as it bypasses ORD from the south, linking the northeastern section of DuPage County and the northwestern section of Cook County from the Chicago Loop, also in Cook County. I-90 was rerouted to cross all of Cook County, on what we know today. Therefore, since 1978, it no longer crosses into DuPage County.

I8t's nice to see another Chicago video. I-290 tipically serves as a Southwestern bypass of the Kennedy Expressway, one of America's busiest highway. I also loved the 2nd Synthwave track. Do you plan to add more Synthwave music in some of your upcoming videos? Also in southwestern Quebec & in Eastern Ontario, there were such a pretty heavy storm coming from the Colorado, exactly a year after the heavy freezing rain that touched the same aera during Easter of 2023 & it's literally crazy! Almost 30cm of heavy snow in some sectors including strong winds going at around 60-70 km/h. In result, this caused several power outrages in several regions in Quebec. The most affected regions are the Outaouais, the Montreal island & the Laurentides, where around 1/4 of the population didn't have any power on Thursday morning. With all that snow felt, several schools were shut down for the day as well. While checking out Hydro-Quebec site, I managed to easily count over 1000 power outrages during that day. In my region, everything was relatively calm, as there were mostly winds of around 40 km/h & barely any power outrages neither, I've counted around 5 here. There were also a bit of snow that felt too this morning, but melted later today. As i'm typing this, more than half of the power outrages have been fixed & it remains a bit more than 300 power outrages left. Also, the snow felt in the ouched regions will most likely be melted by the weekend as we plan temperatures reaching around 5 to 10 °C. Also in April 8th, in just a few days, there will be a total solar eclipse that will touch Eastern Canada. It's definitely something I wouldn't miss no matter what, especially that the next one like that will be in around 120 years later & we all will be dead a long time ago!

Always a treat to get a Chicagoland video from you! Friendly note though, i'd also like to address the end description at around 9:37 The City your video ends at is spelt as Naperville, not Napierville. But knowing you are Canadian, you may know of Napierville in Quebec, so maybe you confused the spelling of that town with the one here. Otherwise, Wonderful Video! I-88 through DuPage County is probably one of the neatest highways (or rather tollways) to drive on outside of the City, and the Dan Ryan inside of it is a wonder on its own with the Local-Express lanes and the CTA Red Line "L" train running in the Middle, and while the Ike needs some dire improvements outside the Circle/Jane Byrne Interchange, hopefully it gets the rebuild it well deserves, lets just hope this time IDOT gets it right though!

You misspelled Naperville. You put in Napierville when it is actually Naperville.
