Asrock has been fantastic lately. I don't have a lot of experience with their low end, but I know that all their high end stuff is all really good. Its a breeze to OC on. Their product lineup is also really easy to understand (extreme 3, extreme 6, etc). I have their z87 extreme4 and it has been a wonderful board.

I love my X99 ASRock Extreme 4 board. Just like you I used the bios for overclocking. No problem cranking my 5820k to 4.4GHZ.

Really love your channel! I recently got back into the PC world from the fruit world and sadly rely on Thunderbolt as I work with lots of audio. Have you installed the thunderbolt card in the x99x killer? I have the X99 deluxe and have been having nothing but problems and am considering switching to the x99x, I swear I'm not copying you! One other request, I've never seen anyone do specific builds for 'hardcore' audio/music production and I'd be interested in seeing one. =] Thanks Jay!!

I know this post is an older post but...I'm building an editing system to handle HD and 4K video editing...etc. The X99 Taichi was suggested with the i7 5820k CPU. I'm wonder your opinion on the 2 boards, the killer vs. the Taichi for the purposes of content creation and editing? Any feed back would be helpful. Charles...a bit overwhelmed and confused.

Great review Jay! Very nice motherboard. ASROCK has made very good motherboards for a long time. It seems like they have taken the spot that ABIT once held in the motherboard market. The last Fatality board I had was an ABIT board.

I really like the features in this motherboard and I may in the future to build another workstation machine with this name brand. This time the CPU will be an intel and I already picked out a fast cpu i7 5820k. I like my AMD FX 9370 with the Gtx 970 EXOC without overclocking and it is a beast. I like the HDD on/off feature myself my rig has one 256Gb SSD because I can't stand the sound and vibration form hard drives so being able to just turn off a HDD in software would be nice.

I've been using AsRock mobos for about a decade now. My kids gaming rig is an old phenom 1, and that mobo was bought sooo long ago, but it's still running, and still rock solid. I've built many more machines for myself, and friends and family, and have exclusively used AsRock. They are always competitively priced with lots of great features. Having built PCs since the 286 days, I've used all brands of motherboards. But for the last 10 years... AsRock is it. I'm building a new machine with tax return money next month... guess which brand of mobo I'll be getting? LOL

The killer's claim is actually legit, I have tested in the past with Neverwinter (MMO) while I had artificial traffic congesting the network. Great for a uni student on a clogged up network or someone in a home where people use the internet a lot.

Killer is mainly for someone on a congested connection, for pure latency I think Intel is the best, if your connection is unobstructed, but it doesn't make a difference FWIW.

Do you leave cache voltage, input voltage etc at stock when overclocking? 1.33volts on a 5820k at 4.4ghz is terrible.

So, I want to get an X99 system for a SLI/CF config (waiting to see the R9 3xx series gpu's).. What CPU should i get? the 5280K@ 509 with the 28 lanes, or the 5930K@ 759 with 40 lanes? Would the 5820K make my two video cards alot slower? or not really noticeable?

I have the same setup.. When i put to 4.4 Turbo mode i noticed a crackling noise coming from the computer.. It sounded like a HD cycling.. But when i realized that wasnt it I put it back to 4.2 and it stopped... WTH is the noise and whats causing it? it was stable at 4.4 but that noise annoyed me..

I have a few questions about this particular board, Since im looking for system upgrade from my FX8350 to a 5820k, the Asrock X99X killer realy got my interessts. I´m looking for a gaming + virtualization rig, thats why i have choosed to go for a X99 based build. I´m basicly looking for a black/red board, but this particular board has some feutures that got my interessts, especialy those dual lan´s. killer does not work well in in virtualization, so thats why i realy like the additional intel 218-V controller. So my questions are. 1: How does this board works out for you, after some time of ussage? 2: How stable is the bios? ever had any problems with that so far? (boot issues) 3: How did the pre selected overclock profiles worked out for you, after a period of using? 4: Do you have any complaints about the onboard audio? i got a brocken eco cpu cooler with 3 be quiet cassi fans but my fans are too loud my cpu fan is always on 1500 rpm ... if i change the settings in the bios it changes nothing at all !!! O.o ( yes i saved settings and restarted) any idea why :/

are there like any mobos with the x99 chip that have the x16 on the first and third slot? i can only find ones with x16 on the first and second slot and the third is mostly x8. Even worse is when im looking for mobos with 2x16 slots it shows me mobos with one beeing x16 and the other beeing x8. isnt that false advertising? Oh and that about the lan does it affect like normal browsing when i have my lan cable plugged in to the E2200 and not the intel gigabit?
