Imagine being a developer on Cyberpunk, they give you all this crunch, release the game you've worked hours and hours on when it's not ready to then see the game get slated for its plethora of issues. Oh and you now have to work even harder on the game you knew wasn't ready but your superiors pushed out anyway. CD Projekt Red truly let down their own developers more than they let down us consumers.

@Steven Browning the bonuses were based on Metacritic score. So rushing the game would not get them their bonuses. Delaying it, and having it as good as it can possibly be, would get them the bonuses.

I disagree. The devs knew the state of the game. I think from the pressure of investors, death threats from community, they were in a lose-lose, and figured they might as well take in the money, release the game, and spend some of the earnings fixing it and adding future content.
@Alderslayer

I dont think its fair to treat the devs with the same anger as those higher up. They are the ones who crunched and they didnt get to decide when the game was released. Decisions have clearly been made forcing devs to remove certain features they may not have been happy with. Yes they are somewhat complicit but they did not actively release the game in this state or treat us customers like dirt.

@@shaid1111 The game being unplayable on certain consoles makes this point flawed. People don't have a issue with bugs being in the game, every game has them. The lies and lack of transparency are main reasons. They said you could get refunds now Sony are saying you can't. Its a horrible look despite many areas the game excels in.

From what I've seen of the base PS4 version of Cyberpunk, nothing, not even the crappy environment textures, about FFVIIR can compare. I have a base PS4, and FFVIIR never freaked out on me and dipped into single digit frames.

@@shaid1111 Equivalent PC hardware is still PC hardware, not console hardware. And there was no reason to do that in a time when dev kits were readily available to all. The only time they ever showed the game running on (midgen) consoles was with highly doctored-footage so obvious your grandma could see the BS. Avengers and FF7 also never had texture-load issues anywhere near as egregious as this, just minor performance dips. Jedi Fallen Order and Control launched worse than both of those games. You're taking what they said at face value as absolute truth when they never proved the specs of any of their showcases. This game always was targeting a high-end experience that is too easy to compromise on the prior gen, it would be like if Valve had a PSVR port for Alyx, it was always going to be a disaster. They also could've given a PSA the day before launch when they knew for sure that the day 1 patch was far from fixing consoles. In fact the way it performs on midgen consoles is how one would've expected base consoles to perform, there's no question that it launched significantly worse than all 4 of the games you mentioned in comparison. I agree with you that what HAS been accomplished here has been overlooked in this group and that it can easily be overlooked by others. This group discussion perhaps obsessed too much over the politics of the situation (especially Greg who genuinely believes this can't 180 or get 2021 GOTY noms), but the lack of transparency DEFINITELY needed to be highlighted when discussing this game in the here and now. CD Project has forever lost some of the trust and good will they've developed, at least for whenever new games launch from them. But yea at the same time I don't think they're ever going to run away with people's money either.

Blessing, my girlfriend is Hispanic and hanging out with her family and close friends from The RGV it’s not uncommon for them to say a phrase or word in Spanish while primarily speaking English. I don’t speak Spanish but just like in the game you typically have enough context from the sentence to get it. And over time this has made me slowly start to learn some Spanish through every day conversation. I would assume this happened with V as well growing up in a primarily Hispanic neighborhood and living with Jackie’s family. (Also I’m pretty sure V has a universal translator cause sometimes the subtitles will translate for you)
@Alex_Logan22
@Alex_Logan22 3 жыл бұрын
Yes that's true, but the execution from Jackie doesn't feel as natural as real life, it feels pretty forced, like they're writing it this way just because that's how their Spanish friends talk, rather than getting an actual Spanish speaker to go over the lines like Insomniac did with Spiderman. Blessing was kinda wrong in his criticism yes but if it was executed better like Miles Morales, he probably wouldn't had noticed it enough.

We like that CP2077 has Latinos & we adore Jackie. We don't appreciate the reviewers claiming cultural appropriation on our behalf bc it inevitably leads to LESS representation. For example, a few months back Twitch released cute Latino History emojis which we all loved, but then wight folks complained & made Twitch delete them 🤣

Still... none of the clunkiness or problems reviewers had adjusting to melee. Straight beast mode w/ a katana or blade! Mostly use 'em in combo w/ stealth though. Or if there's only 1-2 enemies to deal with... Or to spank that one thug always dumb enough to rush me behind cover... I don't really gel with this idea that they should have included more commentary around transgender and sexuality. Why would there be pointed messaging on concepts that are so normal in that world? You could insert lines or posters that meaningfully poke fun at the status of those things in real life, but I would argue that kinda breaks the illusion somewhat. Like why would commentary relevant to OUR world be in THEIR world? For them, everything is 110% accepted and exploited - no stone is left unturned with sexuality and body mod. Perhaps more *varied* ads that demonstrate that would make sense, but I think any "wink wink" commentary aimed at us would come off as forceful unless they took the GTA route into parody, which they didn't.

Tons of valid criticism in this video, but one thing I have to disagree with. You all posed the question: why would you ever stealth and hack when you can just go in guns blazing. But from the other perspective: why would you ever go in guns blazing when you can hack every enemy in the building you're trying to infiltrate from across the street. If you're trying to be stealthy and get spotted by an enemy, it makes sense that they'll try to shoot you and raise the alarm, but you can still use hacks to wipe his memory and recover without getting into a huge firefight. That seems like a quintessential rpg element to give you the option to stealthily take everyone out or just say fuck it and go in guns blazing.

The discussion the guys had about the presence of transphobia in the game made me pretty upset. To me, it seemed like the only example they had was the poster that was over sexualizing trans people, but there are TONS of posters and billboards that sexualize everything, so its not being exceptionally disparaging towards one demographic. My main qualm though is that they kept saying there are no redemptive arcs for trans people in this game, when in fact there is a whole series of side quests with a pretty main character who you learn towards the end is a trans person. It was never focused on, it was just a part of who they were and they just happened to be trans and I loved them! To me it just seems ignorant to say the game is transphobic. If somebody has a different opinion I would love to be educated about it, truly.

Agreed, but be careful Tim might just blame you for his words, he's done it to me. Just a friendly heads up. For reference he spent 2 hours in the Joker review spreading false narratives about mental health, then when I called him on his bullshit I get a msg saying I "misrepresented" his words, like that's even possible, I took what he literally said and he got all in his feelings because I'm not part of the echo chamber he lives in. Also I'm Schizophrenic and him telling me that I was misrepresenting his words is the most shallow, affluent nonsense ever.

Really great episode, everyone clearly was dying to talk about this game and it's nice to hear about all these criticisms in terms of what the game's messages are, what the writers and developers are trying to convey, and how they may have failed there instead of just talk about bugs and being more linear than expected (although those are important too).

Loved this episode. Loved having Paris on here. You guys all have a great dynamic together. Although, I do feel like Imran is nitpicking things to a point where I’m starting to think he may not like the genre of Cyberpunk? Most of his gripes with the storytelling and world are present in a ton of other popular stories in this genre. Also at around 22min Paris mentions he expected the game to be polished and I just don’t know what led him to expect that. Witcher 3 had horribly game breaking bugs on console. The big issue this time around is crashes, but CD has a history of launching very buggy games that do eventually get fixed. The game definitely wasn’t ready for release, but I’d honestly never expect a not buggy product at launch from them. Either way, I think everyone agrees the game could have done with more time in the oven and CD’s response to all of this is horrible and a disservice to the tons of developers who spend almost a decade of their life working on this product in some way. It’s a shame.

I agree with you, but the marketing should have set better expectations. If they just advertised the game and focused development on next gen... but just basically said they would work hard to make it playable on last gen as a sort of 'olive branch'... and delayed last gen until it was "ready". people would have been WAY WAY more forgiving... Then they could have timed it and released it with PS5, Series X and been one of the best next gen launch titles ever... but instead they ended up spending a lot of time optimizing and fixing a really poor version of the game... and I'm sure that hurt the progress on bug fixes on PC as well. Hindsight is 20/20, I guess.

It's really annoying listening to or reading game reviews for open world games like this and you have people who either don't enjoy these type of games (and shouldn't be reviewing them) these people who rush to play the game and then don't actually get into the sidequests. like Imran bitching about sidequests having played like 10 hours of the game is so stupid. The sidequests open up later in the game and are fantastic.

@Steven Browning I would say the same thing... "It's okay for people to acknowledge they loved the game IF they had a good experience with it". Didn't say not to call them out on the problems. And class action lawsuits rarely actually ever help consumers and force changes in companies. They almost always just result in lining the pockets of the lawyers performing them. If you think that is some sort of justice, fine.... I don't agree with it. I generally also don't jump on the internet outrage bandwagons people had for Anthem or Mass Effect either...

On top of that the mini map is so zoomed in that you miss every turn you have to take. I'm glad others picked up on some of the weird story moments that feel misaligned with previous decisions or events. I had the same thought about Johnny when your car gets wrecked. V says something like "Fuck, did you see that Johnny?!" I was just like, "Wait, why are you looking for his input all of a sudden?" It's almost like they expected you to do that quest after having spent time with him already, but it's available right after you meet him. So weird. I also kinda felt like too much of the dialogue with Jackie during Act 1 was needlessly provocative. In some of the choices it felt like all the available dialogue options were varying degrees of disapproval in order to force a bit of friction ahead of the climax.

I'm playing on base ps4 and am having very few technical gripes with the game. It's has bugs and glitches but it's running ok. I picked to play as a nomad because i wanted to discover night city as an outsider. Only to find out that I don't even get to drive to night city and see it for the first time along with V. In fact I felt like I missed the first 6 months of v's time there. It was just skipped through in that montage. Why wouldn't I have been given that experience as the player as an introduction to the mechanics and night city? Sleeping on your buddies couch until I made enough money for my own apartment for instance. By doing small missions as the story ramped up. The city for as cool as it looks feels like set dressing for the story. Much like it did in L.A noir. Outside of shooting and shopping there's very little interaction. London in watchdogs legion felt more alive. And I didn't think i would be able to say that. In the end I'm doing a Gregg and playing it like it's an update of the fallout game series.

some of you say deep complex game? its totally the opposite: The live megabuildings we were promised, there are only a couple you can enter and all of them are 1 or 2 stories only. Cyberware is extremely limited and bland. There are no police chases, you can move 1 block away and all your crimes against humanity are forgiven. Most the side content is just go there kill every bad guy get your eddies. There's very little to do in the game world outside of quests in general. There are no factions or karma systems.. and the list goes on... I only feel night city alive when interacting with a main character, as NPCS interactions are a joke. Bugs might be fixed in time, how will they make this game a real DEEP RPG as they said it would be?

So far, I've been having an absolute blast. My biggest gripes are the AI not being amazing and not enough customization options for the character and not enough random fun activities to do in the city, but besides that I'm loving the world, the characters, the missions and story, the gameplay and different styles you can develop that already have me thinking about my 3rd playthrough while I'm still early in my 1st at 28 hours. And the city is breathtaking, just walking around and looking at the sights is a fun activity, if this was just a beautiful walking Simulator it would still feel like a good 20 or 30 dollar purchase, that's how cool the city is. Biggest issue has been bugs and expectations that are very very high, this is a dope ass open world game with cyberware body modifications and a cool fuckin story. I'm pretty addicted rn.

I wonder what difficulty level they are playing on...I am playing on hard and it totally forces you to hack and or increase certain aspects of your character to get through a certain part of section of a given mission. I spent 33 minutes last night navigation my way through a conversation that generally results in a fight that I'd lose. Finally discovered a dialouge path to avoid that and get through that part, but I also needed to have a certain level of intelligence to accomplish.
