Assetto Corsa vs. GTR 2 - Porsche 996 RSR @ Donington

With the release of the Porsche 996 RSR included in the GTN Pack by Race Sim Studio I thought it would be a good idea to compare Assetto Corsa against the good old GTR2 game in which I´ve started simracing.

The lack of damage is what makes AC worse than GTR2. But overall AC is better. It also has better graphics obviously

I remember my older sister (12 years older than me) coming home from high school one day in early 2007 with a steering wheel and hastily hooking it up to her computer and downloading GTR2, I remember watching her race on it for countless hours and I did my share of driving on it too. There was a little too much going on in it for 5 year old me to comprehend but i loved it and loved watching her drive on it. It started my fascination with racing ( and the Le Mans movie which my sister also introduced me too… and don’t get me started on P&G). And I remember her playing the NASCAR games and i played those some too but those were all on controller this was different I was holding a steering wheel. I’ll never forget how cool it seemed to me back then. Fast forward like 15 years and I’m still playing that game occasionally. Still racing with my sister too. We try to get on AC and screw around for a few hours at least twice a month just hard when you don’t live in the same state anymore and have vastly different schedules. ahhh the memories.

The way cars bump and how the cockpit camera behaves in gtr2 and other SimBin titles from that era, it always made me feel like the ultimate hero driver and it felt like I was bumping on my seat back then! Bonker games for that time.

The best simulator game, others, RR, AC, Project Cars, only benefits from GTR2, perhaps only rFactor which was released in November 2005 can be an equal competitor. Thank you SimBin Studios, Blimey! Games

The camera movement, the sounds, the bumps the visceral nature of GTR2 puts in miles ahead imo having played both of these One is accurate technically, the other is accurate to experience

It is. I drove with the default setup and it's not as easy to drive as it is in Assetto Corsa.

@@DawgPro It depends on the car. The RSS GT1 mod for AC is much more difficult than GTR2 especially with the Saleen S7.

You are comparing modern modding content with old professional content. If you want to see where 2020 actually is, compare it to iRacing, RaceRoom, rF2 (non-modding content), ACC. But yeah, GTR2 was ahead of its time. It was the best simulation for GT content for many years.

@@petouser Even then im still not so sure.... Rf2 and iracing even still give very little improvements except for graphics but even the graphics seems always so overdone and weird in a way like i just taken some drugs lmfao.

GTR2 asphalt texture looks better than AC. The physical effect is that even though AC looks better, for me GTR2 is one of the best Sim Racing Games.

GTR2 is an all time classic for me but Race 07 has the better graphics. For mods I would use GTR2.

race 07 is well optimized for touring car, but unfortunately the GT content is rather low quality. Physics are very different. Overall, I would say GTR2 feels more realistic and organic.
