Absolutely awesome band! Their album "Guernica+a" from last year was really progressive, just try any of their last 6 studio live videos on their YT-channel, like "Stars" or "Then & now". And also "Dawn" is a must hear.

If you really want to get to know Asterism a bit better, perhaps we should start from the beginning? Although the brothers and Haruka had performed separately before forming Asterism (as O.G.I. and HAL-CA, respectively), the first song they wrote together was "155", back when Haruka was just 11. They have an early studio session of it on their KZbin channel, if you want to take a look. But their second song, "Rising Moon", is the song they played when winning the Yamaha 9th Music Revolution in 2015 (when Haruka was 12). It eventually got a music video, recorded around her 15th birthday, and released in conjunction with their second EP (The Session Vol.2, 2018): kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5fbfpxmd91nrpI Only 7 months later, they released their first full album (Ignition, 2018). This is where you would find "Blaze", the song you just listened to, but also "Dawn", which I would argue is the best track in their entire catalogue. Here it is, performed live in 2019: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mKa0gal_g6-Wd5I Ignition would eventually be followed by Guernica (2020) and Guernica+a (2021), with more progressive material than their earlier releases. You have already heard "Church", but I would recommend trying "Gunfire", "Then & Now", "Full Throttle", "Faced/Burned", "Day 26" or "Museum of Death". Here is a video of "Stars", which is one of the less progressive songs on that album, but perhaps the most popular: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fWHCfGZ7fZ6IZqM They have also made a fair amount of decent covers. Have you ever heard a 15 year old girl play YYZ before? kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2XRpI2vaKpjqLM But if you don't mind a bit of blues, I really love their version of "Scuttle Buttin". I honestly think she plays it better than Stevie Ray Vaughan ever did: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eKWlkImojrGFl68

"Dawn" is the song you need to check out. As for being a "Ham". That she certainly is. But in fairness, I think you get much the same behavior is she if playing solo in her bedroom. :)

Great, thanks. I´d suggest "Dawn" for next one and also suggest you another japanese trio I guess would be compliable with your taste: Sokoninaru.

I think both Miyu and Hal-ca are equally talented. But of course the guitar register will always cut thru better frequency-wise, and Hal-ca has stage charisma by buckets too. Both also have a devilish precision (Hal-ca bends and fast runs, but also vibrato, are laser-precise)

Hal-ca is just her name Haruka. The Japanese would pronounce l as an r with a vowel after it and c would be a k. A bit of word play.

Thanks for explaining that

@kit Weng Maybe enough Japanese-speakers know how to pronounce it in English? If you know Band-Maid, Miku Kobato from that band has a side-project spelled Cluppo but again the Japanese pronunciation would be "Kuruppo" which is one of her catch-phrases.

Thanks to Pale Horse for turning you onto this group. Might have left this backgrounder on your last reaction, but here it is in case it's helpful: Asterism are an instrumental power trio from Fukuoka, Japan. They consist of: Haruka Noma, guitars (“HAL-CA”) Miyu Yoshinaka, bass Mio Yoshinaka, drums They were formed in 2014 when Noma was 11 and the brothers were 12 and 14 respectively. They were all playing at a talent fair for young musicians in their hometown, when one of the music scouts noticed them, had a hunch and suggested they play together. Most of their current youtube catalogue is fan-made live video footage, much of it at the Hard Rock Café in Fukuoka. There are also a few clips from their one tour in the U.S., when they played Austin and Los Angeles. They are all phenomenal talents, but the big draw has been Noma, known by her first name Haruka or by her stage name Hal-Ca. She has been likened to a reincarnation of Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan all in one. Even in the Japanese scene, with its overload of extraordinarily technical shredders, she stands out. She also writes most of the band’s music. Miyu is a virtuoso on the bass, plays both 4-string and 7-string, and has his own shred solos in a number of their songs. Best clips to start with are: “Rising Moon” (their first professional MV): kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5fbfpxmd91nrpI (you just did this) “Blaze” (Live): kzbin.info/www/bejne/a2KzqZ6mbdF6d9U “Light in the Darkness” (Live): kzbin.info/www/bejne/h6Hbf5aQpLOdjLc “Yunagi” (Studio live): kzbin.info/www/bejne/bnzNn6egpdOhbbc >>>>“Dawn” (Live): kzbin.info/www/bejne/mKa0gal_g6-Wd5I >>>Having done two clips, one studio and one live, you are ready for this one. But have first aid handy. To see Haruka practicing at home, these are fun: “Practice Homework”: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lXfQanV4rNicntk kzbin.info/www/bejne/gYHUoadtpd12pbM kzbin.info/www/bejne/moHZdHp-i8hneZI kzbin.info/www/bejne/gKWzkKJol7SdrKM kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJqyloKtlL6tg7s kzbin.info/www/bejne/bHLSh4ejfL90iZI kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJWUlaqvaJujpbc kzbin.info/www/bejne/pqW3nmWBhLynldk kzbin.info/www/bejne/oHenpKajhtOhabs kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYOqq4KmYtx5qpY

Oh hey, this one slipped by me until now. Thanks for the shout out! I'm with you on not having seen anyone play bass like Miyu does. When you can, I recomend a reaction to their live cover of Stevie Ray Vaughan's "Scuttle Buttin'" where all three get moments to shine. The sound quality is surprisingly good and I can only imagine that SRV would have loved it. HAL-CA was 17 here, Miyu had just turned 18, and Mio was 20. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eKWlkImojrGFl68

Great reaction to a fantastic trio, probably the best metal trio in the world right now (since we lose Neil). Haruka and Miyu are both monsters on their instruments, but shout out to poor Mio on drums. He does a great job keeping the other two in time, and is a fantastic drummer in his own right, largely overshadowed by the two geniuses (genii?) in front. You replied in other comments that you intend to do "Dawn". If you do, please do the 2019/04/20 version (kzbin.info/www/bejne/mKa0gal_g6-Wd5I). The version on their website is recorded on a 360deg camera, so video is crap, and tbh the sound quality is pretty poor for a live studio version. Also, check out their cover of SRV's "Scuttle Buttin'" (kzbin.info/www/bejne/eKWlkImojrGFl68) for a great bass solo and some shredding.

I wholeheartedly second the suggestion for link to "Dawn". There are several versions of this up, and the insane thing is how much they change it up each time, but that one is on a level all its own.

I'll have to check out more from this band. I don't see your fellow Canadians, Unleash The Archers, among your reactions. Is there a reason for this? Although I've seen other Canadian reactors who had never heard of them. If you haven't listened to them you might consider starting your journey with the full band play through video of "Awakening", it will be the fastest 7 minutes of your life.
