Original Description: Asterix and The Great Rescue for the Sega Genesis is the very first viewer request on the channel. Developed by Core Design Ltd. and released in June 1994, Great Rescue is an action platformer based on a franchise that is popular in Europe, but unknown in the States. Amid the cluttered sea of sidescrollers, did this obscure title stick out from the fierce competition or is it a disposable "cookie cutter" clone? Watch and find out.

The Internet loves hating on this game, but it was actually pretty okay/average at the time of its release. As a kid, I played it a bunch and enjoyed it more than many platformers of the time. I wouldn't go as far as recommending it, though : It hasn't aged well and its flaws were only tolerable to a 90's kid because of context, and I don't think a modern gamer with no nostalgia or emotional connection is likely to enjoy the game. Still, it was nice to hear a more nuanced and positive review of this game. While it's clearly a game with several design issues, it deserves better than the blind hatred it usually gets as well.
