This isn't an inherently bad concept, basing the game around figuring out how to clear each level as fast as possible. It could've been like a puzzle almost. Also that really was the worst lava graphic in any game.

Yeah, you're probably right. Have a lenient timer on easy/normal for the player to learn the game; give double the contents for potions on easy, and respawning on easy/normal; give potions an aiming arc on easy; rework the sections where damage boosting is *required* , or if keeping them on hard give the players chickens. That way players can *learn* the levels and how to use their potions effectively, and damage boosting becomes a "see if you can work it out" strategy on hard. Then fix the basic gameplay. More warning on falling platforms/leaves. A punch that works on enemies on a slope below you. General physics and hit boxes. Better explained boss mechanics. Some indication of which blind pits are okay to go down. Easy is the basic "learn the game" mode. Normal is the "You've got time to correct mistakes" mode. Hard is the "You sure you've learnt the game? Learnt all the little tricks? Now *Prove it* " mode

@@Haganeren that was probably it. But them having a debilitating inability to manage time would explain the insanity of the in-game timer too XD
@Haganeren3 жыл бұрын
@@vaimantobe3034 Well, i have a theory on that. The game is on "hard" difficulty. What would you do if you had to design the difficulty mode for your game ? Creating a more complex IA or putting more ennemies takes time. Having ennemies take more health out of you can create situation where it's impossible to win since you carry your health level after level. So the simplest way is to play with your timer because it basically need no test, no additional feature and no work from you. So yeah, just ask your testers team ( the QA ) to speedrun your level in order to determine what challenging time the player could have if he already finished the game. The QA plays your game all days for several months so of course they are very VERY strong at the game which is why the timer could be so insane. I really think that's how it happened but it's still just a theory.

What is the time limit in the universe? Well, for Asterix, it would be until his magic potion's effect runs out and he's back to regular human strenght. And he isn't very strong considering how small he is, so he wouldn't be able to finish the mission I guess. But that doesn't make sense for Obelix, considering he's constantly under magic potion effect... maybe it's until he gets so hungry that he's too grumpy to go on and just sits down and pouts? Also, the "hooks" are not hooks, but sickles, something that often appears in Asterix, and the tool the druids use to collect herbs. So it's safe to assume Asterix/Obelix can use it to get some herbs that help them, or that it represents some magical help from Panoramix. I mean if I were to consume gunpowder I think I'd probably be in too much pain to take my time or care about any hits I take.

What's sad is that if the time limit had been removed, and some hitboxes altered a bit, maybe certain platforms positioned just a little different... this looks like it actually could have been a pretty good game. It always bugs the heck outta me to see a bad game that is soooooooo close to actually being good, but small, easily avoided design mistakes ruin the entire thing. The fact that the problems were so freakishly obvious just makes it worse. There's just no excuse for these issues being there.

This would be so much easier with a run button

This game badly needs a patch to adjust or remove the timer. Whoever came up with that time limit deserves a punch in the nose.
@xtremexavier48223 жыл бұрын
If you're interested you could check out the master system version. It has no time limits at all, your movement is faster and attacking enemies is easier. Does raise the question why the version made for then-current gen consoles was so much worse tho

Almost any stage in this game could be considered the worst ever! I can get why some sections in games have time limits (Like the ones you talk about in your Creepy Time Limits videos) but why do some games just go "Time's Up!" when your character was otherwise in no danger at all?
@princessolmeca2933 Жыл бұрын
I owned this game as a kid and I NEVER saw past stage three. All I can say to that is thank goodness. Just watching somebody else play through this atrocity is making me mad.

When you find yourself wanting to damage boost through most of the game to save time, I wouldn't say it likely has very good level design

Well, this video reminds me of Worst Levels Ever #21; he couldn't decide which level from Battletoads was the worst one, so he added ALL of the awful, hard levels from that game. Also, that Lub Lub as T-Bird raging at his computer is hilarious. Lub Lub as Von Karma slamming his head on a wall would be another hilarious skit. The exploding Viking women remind me of Mr. Creosote (exploding fat man) from Momty Python's The Meaning of Life

Somehow every video you make feels as if it came out years ago, but at the same time they feel like as if they came out only a few months ago. I'm not sure how to describe it, but it's interesting, to say the least.

What is with the quality assurance here?! The first half of the game was god awful, heck, the entire game is, but suddenly they start streamlining levels, learn how to commit to graphic design, and suddenly the music isn’t the soundtrack of every Data Design game ever made?
