Just completed this project with the assistance of my 12yr old daughter. We followed step by step and got ‘er done! I’m not a mechanic and was prepared for the worst. I legit made peace we might have lost our vehicle for attempting this project. Car starts. Runs GREAT. No delay in throttle as it was before. Not sure all that was effected but I can definitely feel the performance difference. My baby’s back 🙏🏾😊🌟🏆 Thank you for the time you put into this and the easy-to-follow instructions bro. I watched a few other videos on this but didn’t give me the confidence to attempt it until I came across your video the morning I decided to take the car in. That’s how clutch it was for me bro. I watched it 3xs taking notes lmao Commented that day and took it apart yesterday. Put it together today and boom we back in business. You saved me so much money I really couldn’t afford to spend rn. I checked the cooler 2 years ago. It did not leak at the time. I replaced the seals since I had them on hand. I just replaced the filter cap because one of the 4 tabs holding the bypassing valve was broken. The old cap is still available to function, but I like to replace it. I have been concerning the cooler failure. For a 8-year-old caravan, I am still not able to make a decision to pick the Mopar one or after market one with aluminum housing if the time comes to replace the cooler because the Mopar one is $225+tax CAD with sensors and Dorman will be over $300 CAD without sensors.

I’m going to be doing this job carefully myself on my ‘12 Chrysler 200 Touring convertible because I don’t want to take chances with someone else’s workmanship or pay the Chrysler stealership a huge amount of money that I can’t afford. Goddamn Chrysler for making this part out of plastic! For whoever reads this comment there is another improvement offered by Baxter Performance that converts the Pentastar engines to a spin on filter. This helps eliminate momentary dry starts by keeping oil available to the cam areas which over time can cause wear with each starting of this otherwise well designed engine.

These video series for Chrysler 300 are gold!! I did myself the replacement and upgrade of the oil cooler, thermostat/coolant pipe and led headlights almost two weeks ago. I saw the oil cooler replacement video several times, the process looks more intimidating in video than in person. I took the opportunity to replace the coolant reseirvoir since the antifreeze was drained. Quick question, I did this last summer. If I recall, there was coolant in that valley, as well as oil. I'm chasing a p06de and Im trying to find a coolant leak. I know the coolant is leaking from the smell of coolant when Im running. Did you have the coolant pool at all?
@BLUECOLLARGARAGE9 ай бұрын
No I didn’t have any coolant pooling up. Did you check the thermostat housing and coolant pipe coming off that? Those are two common areas that leak. Can you take a flashlight and see if any coolant is pooling up under the intake? As for the p06de I believe that is an oil pressure issue. Does it have any running issues and how many miles are on it? Hoping it’s not an oil pump issue. I’m wanting if it’s an issue with the pressure sending unit and if the coolant smell has something to do with it to where the coolant corroded the oil pressure sending unit connector. Do you have any way of testing your oil pressure?
@DarkMessiah4999 ай бұрын
@@BLUECOLLARGARAGE 170k. I replaced the plastic thermostat housing with an aluminum one. I put dye in the cooling system and the only bright spot I saw was on the bolt coming up out of it. No evidence anywhere else beside the smell, coolant loss, and coolant temp going up towards 260. The reason I got here is I got the p06de code, and went ahead and just put it an oil cooler I had rather than just change the pressure sensor. It runs fine. But the check engine light was driving me insane (I'm weird like that. I was working thru a checklist for that code. Last July I got an oil change and the problem cleared up. I check the oil and yet the tech said I had been down more than a quart and a half, despite the dipstick always reading over filled. I guess I'll do an oil change and see if the code clears. I'm curious if there's an issue with checking the oil level. But excluding that, it's gonna be the pump itself, which includes the solenoid. I appreciate you taking all the time to answer. Oh, and other than the car's gauge, I don't have the means to verify the exact oil pressure.

Did Chrysler fix the oil cooler design in the newer 2021+ models? Or do they still use plastic ?
@BLUECOLLARGARAGE10 ай бұрын
Pretty sure they still use plastic. I seriously think Chrysler does this on purpose just so you bring it back to the dealership to be repaired so they make more money and try to up sell you on other things at the same time.

@@BLUECOLLARGARAGE that’s terrible. This is exactly why people think American cars are junk. They would rather keep their service department busy than improve their reputation and increase sales in the future smh

It’s just a husky one from Home Depot.

Thank you! I’m doing this job this weekend! I have a question, did you drain the engine oil before hand? Just trying to get everything dialed in. Thanks again!

Or where did you buy your torque wrench bar
@BLUECOLLARGARAGE10 ай бұрын
It’s just a 12” 1/4 extension.

Is draining the coolant a must?
@BLUECOLLARGARAGE8 ай бұрын
Not a must but you’ll want to drain out at least a 1/4 of it so when you pull off the cooler cooling lines it doesn’t make a huge mess

Is it possible to do this job without removing the coolant? At 52k miles, I need to do this job on my ‘19 Pacifica. I have been doing research on the forums, and many folks complain that the Dorman aluminum unit “has defects, it’s not up to spec compared to the oem one”, etc. There seem to be many Chinese Amazon copycats now for 1/3 of the Dorman unit. What do you think?? Thank you for this video btw!

Excellent job brother. You definitely give people the will to start the job. Wish I had you around for the rocker arm fix on this engine aka “ticking”.
@BLUECOLLARGARAGE Жыл бұрын
Luckily the ones I have worked on haven’t had the infamous rocker arm tick yet but I’m sure it’s just a matter of time and I’ll end up doing a video on one lol.

Why did you go with the Dorman? Do you know anyone who has installed one in the past?
@BLUECOLLARGARAGE Жыл бұрын
I went with Dorman because they offer it in the full aluminum plus it’s made in the USA. Don’t know of anyone else who has installed it because it’s kind of a newer product to help solve the mopar plastic housing failures.

Hey man good video I replaced the oil cooler a couple days ago, I noticed that my oil temp was getting to 220ish is that normal? And not sure what caused it but oil came out of oil filler cap. What could I have done wrong to cause that? Thanks
@giovanimiron9 ай бұрын
Question. For the oil filter housing did you remove the oil from the engine to remove the oil filter housing or it’s okay to remove the housing without having to take out the oil
@premiummelons15129 ай бұрын
The oil collects at the bottom in the sump, so you can change this without changing the oil, but its probably recommended that you do so anyways

quick question did you have to drain the oil to do this job .
@BLUECOLLARGARAGE Жыл бұрын
You don’t have to but it’s always a good idea to do it after just to make sure there’s no contamination or coolant that ends up in the oil.
