WOW, the video is thorough, but I don't think it's a job for a female to handle, so I took my daughter's Chrysler 2016 300C to Precision Tune. The cost to change the leaking oil filter is $1200. Would that be correct? Thank you!

Just completed this project with the assistance of my 12yr old daughter. We followed step by step and got ‘er done! I’m not a mechanic and was prepared for the worst. I legit made peace we might have lost our vehicle for attempting this project. Car starts. Runs GREAT. No delay in throttle as it was before. Not sure all that was effected but I can definitely feel the performance difference. My baby’s back 🙏🏾😊🌟🏆 Thank you for the time you put into this and the easy-to-follow instructions bro. I watched a few other videos on this but didn’t give me the confidence to attempt it until I came across your video the morning I decided to take the car in. That’s how clutch it was for me bro. I watched it 3xs taking notes lmao Commented that day and took it apart yesterday. Put it together today and boom we back in business. You saved me so much money I really couldn’t afford to spend rn. Thank you fr fr and wishing much success to you and your family. Definitely getting a Christmas card lol

I checked the cooler 2 years ago. It did not leak at the time. I replaced the seals since I had them on hand. I just replaced the filter cap because one of the 4 tabs holding the bypassing valve was broken. The old cap is still available to function, but I like to replace it. I have been concerning the cooler failure. For a 8-year-old caravan, I am still not able to make a decision to pick the Mopar one or after market one with aluminum housing if the time comes to replace the cooler because the Mopar one is $225+tax CAD with sensors and Dorman will be over $300 CAD without sensors.

Thanks Blue Collar Garage for this helpful video. I’m going to be doing this job carefully myself on my ‘12 Chrysler 200 Touring convertible because I don’t want to take chances with someone else’s workmanship or pay the Chrysler stealership a huge amount of money that I can’t afford. Goddamn Chrysler for making this part out of plastic! For whoever reads this comment there is another improvement offered by Baxter Performance that converts the Pentastar engines to a spin on filter. This helps eliminate momentary dry starts by keeping oil available to the cam areas which over time can cause wear with each starting of this otherwise well designed engine.

I thought it was over, I thought I was done for. Followed your video step by step, you called out the bolt and nut sizes through the whole thing, you're a dang life saver dude. I absolutely do not have the money to pay a shop, you made this so simple. Thank you thank you thank you. Edit: Upgraded to fully aluminum part, which it should have been from the factory. These video series for Chrysler 300 are gold!! I did myself the replacement and upgrade of the oil cooler, thermostat/coolant pipe and led headlights almost two weeks ago. I saw the oil cooler replacement video several times, the process looks more intimidating in video than in person. I took the opportunity to replace the coolant reseirvoir since the antifreeze was drained. One thing that happened to me is that the A/C did not work after finishing the work, I needed to replace the fuse 12 A/C clutch. My car is a Chrysler 300 2015, these videos were very helpful. I am planning to replace my coils and spark plugs in the next months. Thank you so much!!!

I drained the radiator, but some left over coolant keeps coming up from the holes at the bottom of the engine bay and spilling over. It's not a flood like it was before, but more of an annoyance. Is this normal? Should I just soak up the coolant in the holes and then install the new oil filter housing?

Quick question, I did this last summer. If I recall, there was coolant in that valley, as well as oil. I'm chasing a p06de and Im trying to find a coolant leak. I know the coolant is leaking from the smell of coolant when Im running. Did you have the coolant pool at all?
@BLUECOLLARGARAGE
@BLUECOLLARGARAGE 9 ай бұрын
No I didn’t have any coolant pooling up. Did you check the thermostat housing and coolant pipe coming off that? Those are two common areas that leak. Can you take a flashlight and see if any coolant is pooling up under the intake? As for the p06de I believe that is an oil pressure issue. Does it have any running issues and how many miles are on it? Hoping it’s not an oil pump issue. I’m wanting if it’s an issue with the pressure sending unit and if the coolant smell has something to do with it to where the coolant corroded the oil pressure sending unit connector. Do you have any way of testing your oil pressure?
@DarkMessiah499
@DarkMessiah499 9 ай бұрын
@@BLUECOLLARGARAGE 170k. I replaced the plastic thermostat housing with an aluminum one. I put dye in the cooling system and the only bright spot I saw was on the bolt coming up out of it. No evidence anywhere else beside the smell, coolant loss, and coolant temp going up towards 260. The reason I got here is I got the p06de code, and went ahead and just put it an oil cooler I had rather than just change the pressure sensor. It runs fine. But the check engine light was driving me insane (I'm weird like that. I was working thru a checklist for that code. Last July I got an oil change and the problem cleared up. I check the oil and yet the tech said I had been down more than a quart and a half, despite the dipstick always reading over filled. I guess I'll do an oil change and see if the code clears. I'm curious if there's an issue with checking the oil level. But excluding that, it's gonna be the pump itself, which includes the solenoid. I appreciate you taking all the time to answer. Oh, and other than the car's gauge, I don't have the means to verify the exact oil pressure.

Yes especially while parking on an incline like a driveway. The cooler is located in the valley of the engine and the oil slowly works its way towards the back of the engine leaking down the transmission bell housing making it look like the transmission is leaking.

Do you plan on doing a video on how to change rockers/lifters in the 3.6L Pentstar engines? I bought the rockers so I could change em out during this job but I didn’t do em cause I didn’t like any of the tutorials by other people that were out there. You have a way of instilling the motivation and self confidence that’s needed in order to get the job(s) done. Also, any recommendations on getting the petcock/radiator plug back in? It came all the way out when I turned it. I just went a bought a new one just in case I damaged the one that came out. I am really struggling to get the plug in rn. Haven’t been able to find the skp version of it on Amazon you’ll have to source it through rockauto.com but here’s the part number for it sk926959.

Is it worth buying new sensors when doing this project or is it okay to use the existing ones? And if so, would that require any new programming with new sensors?

Hello, do you have to drain the oil also? When you change the filter housing?
@gktop5430
@gktop5430 Ай бұрын
Do you need to empty the coolant housing or was that just part of the tune up
@BLUECOLLARGARAGE
@BLUECOLLARGARAGE Ай бұрын
You will want to drain about a 1/4 of the coolant out so the level will drop below the oil cooler. If not you make a huge mess with coolant going every where once you remove the lines from the oil cooler.

You don’t have to drain it all the way but you want to drain at least a 1/4 of it. If not it will make a pretty big mess when you pull the coolant line of the cooler.

Wow. Thank you Thank you Thank you for posting this amazing step by step video. I’m looking to tackle this repair soon. I think I see some oil but not sure if I maybe spilled some when I did my last oil change or maybe I over tightened the oil cap and cracked the housing. Going with the Dorman as well. I’ll have to get a new torque wrench for in lbs. the one I have only goes down to 20 ft lbs. I’ll also have to get a set of Torx E since Torx T won’t work on those bolts for the lower intake manifold. Also planning to do the spark plugs while I’m in there. Car currently has 66k miles so they still have a ways to go but don’t wanna have to do this again u less I have to. Again, thank you for this video.

Did Chrysler fix the oil cooler design in the newer 2021+ models? Or do they still use plastic ?
@BLUECOLLARGARAGE
@BLUECOLLARGARAGE 10 ай бұрын
Pretty sure they still use plastic. I seriously think Chrysler does this on purpose just so you bring it back to the dealership to be repaired so they make more money and try to up sell you on other things at the same time.

Is it possible to do this job without removing the coolant? At 52k miles, I need to do this job on my ‘19 Pacifica. I have been doing research on the forums, and many folks complain that the Dorman aluminum unit “has defects, it’s not up to spec compared to the oem one”, etc. There seem to be many Chinese Amazon copycats now for 1/3 of the Dorman unit. What do you think?? Thank you for this video btw!
