Also bear in mind that this was around 2016/2017 Skas quite literally changed the game for LGBTQ+ European shows
@emilyneedles6236
@emilyneedles6236 Жыл бұрын
Totally agree. I think it needs to be remembered too that even though that was only 7 years ago, there has been a massive increase in the frequency of LGBTQ+ representation in media since then. And there was huge social progress just being made around that time. So while this is a fairly typical LGBTQ+ coming of age and coming out story in some ways, it's definitely no less revolutionary. I wasn't even out when SKAM came out and I was significantly older than its target audience. The culture has shifted a lot since 2016. I still think SKAM was revolutionary for its time. And that makes it really interesting to compare it to media from the same general region of the world like Young Royals. Because it's not a huge time jump but the attitudes are MUCH different.

Ok so I’m a total nerd and love to read scripts for my favorite shows. In the script, the teacher is not named, just referred to a “pupper” which is Norwegian for tits. And you were right about the improvisation. Some conversations are very clearly written out, but a lot of the banter is improvised by the actors. And the creator of the show will ask the actors to change the script to make it more authentic. One of the benefits of using age appropriate actors is that they know if a line sounds like it was written by an adult

Agreed! I love the improv aspects of their storytelling. I mean Heartstopper has age-appropriate casting but the dialogue sounds very theatrical and mature for their age (I’m still as obsessed with HS, but SKAM is pure gold).

Yay! Your reaction was fascinating! Always curious to see people's reaction with zero backstory. This show was HUGE, like a very big deal in Norway, as well as internationally. Even Prince William and Kate visited the set in 2018, talking to the actors to learn about the real youth issues that are the focus of the show, like SA, mental health, religion, LGBTQ, etc. SKAM OG has won many awards and inspired very good adaptions in 7 other countries, some of which are still going today!

Soooo excited for this ❤ Just some quick background: Isak lives in a shared apartment with two other people: Eskild and Linn. Noora (the girl in London) lived there before but she moved to London to be with her bf. (Season 2 plot). And Isak who has some troubles at home moved into the shared apartment. Anyway, I would highly recommend watching the other seasons when you have the time. All the characters and their storylines are super interesting. And don’t worry, it‘s~not~ your stereotypical teenage story☺️

the reason they show the teacher without a head, is cause its a show by and for young people. They wanted to depict younger people solving their own problems, so there are basically no adults "shown" in the show.

So excited you're finally reacting to SKAM! 🤩 It gets better and better and isn't your stereotypical story. After this I'd love it if you could react to DRUCK season 3 (the German version of SKAM). All the other remakes follow basically the same story line but DRUCK changes it quite significantly and deals with some really important topics in such a beautiful way 🥰

Highly recommend that you still watch the other seasons in order, well technically they can stand alone you lose SO much context and backstory and introduction to the culture of Norway and the “world of skam”. Skam also doesn’t waste their characters, you often meet characters a season before they show up again or a threadline/plot brings them into the fold. All 4 seasons are stories worth telling for sure!!!

I’m glad you’re watching this and season three is definitely the best season. But, tbh, I feel like you miss a lot of context and scene setting if you don’t watch it from the beginning. I would definitely recommend that once you fall in love with the show, you go back and watch the first two seasons. And you will fall in love. The first episode is kind of meh if you don’t know about Isak’s journey so far but it will pick up.

SO excited you’re watching this! Brings me right back to 2016!! A few thoughts: - “it seems like a stereotypical gay story” hahahaha oh sweeties. - an interesting thing about this season in particular is the deliberate lack of adult faces on screen. Keep an eye out for it. It’s a very purposeful depiction of ‘teenagehood’, where adults are very much on the sidelines in the minds of teens (parents, teachers etc) amidst all their drama. Mind you, as a teacher myself, I always wear a bra to work 😂 - I’m sure you realise this already from other comments, but this show was so unique at the time. They released parts of the episodes at the time depicted on the screen throughout each week, so you were ‘living it’ with them in 2 to 10 minute blocks haha. It was crazy times. So looking forward to the rest of the season! Druck (the German version) season 3 is also fab (and different enough to the original) if you’re looking for something after this. And the heartbreak high reboot on Netflix is 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼 Stay awesome, you legends 🌈

at nissen, the real high school the show is based in, there is a huge theater department and there are groups that take care of specific things for the production of the show the theater group will put on. "kosegruppa" i believe is a group that was made up on the show? (not sure it could be real) and vilde and the girls created it so they can throw parties and bake food and bring comfort to the other theater groups. it's funny because tarjei (isak actor) is going to the same school the show is filmed at/based in at the same time the show is airing and he was in the theater department as well and i think the year this aired he was in the marketing group lol. i think only seniors get to particpate in the acting (which he did his senior year). sad thing about the school being in the show is people would fly to norway and stalk tarjei outside his school since his season is the one that basically crossed international borders and his season was a global sensation. i always felt bad when i saw pics of him taken outside of his school. but also, you are right, the theater kids are not popular persay and neither are our main characters. ANYWAYS i am a huge skam fan so this is very exciting for me!

What I really love about the series is that everything is from perspective. The guys are only talking about girls because Isak feels its all about that and he feels so isolated. And Eva looks a little different than in season 1&2 because Isak sees here different. There are so many little hidden clues in everything from skam ❤️❤️ it's an amazing show! And yes it's kinda quirky but thats one of the reasons it's so genius 😍 and no it's not very steriotypical. 😊 And that bathroom scène 😂 love that ❤ and very good for seeing Even is very straight forward, it's important! 😊 and Sana is amazing! Please do season 4 after this and after that season 3 skam France ❤

Little bits of trivia Skam means shame Each season focuses on a character : all the other seasons focus more on the girls squad (Eva, Noora, and Sana) We know Isak is interested by men he struggled with a crush on Jonas and tried dating girls before but it didn't seem to work out. I recommend watching the other seasons and the bloopers, they're pretty neat and the girls are too

It’s been a while since i watched skam, excited to rewatch with you guys! I saw this live when it came out and tens of times afterwards. Skam is the Norwegian word for “shame”, the concept is that every season is told through the perspective of one central character in real time (!), exploring something they feel shame about. There were text messages being released, social media profiles/content, it was literally like everything was actually happening and we got to be like you said a fly on the wall. Such a cool concept, especially since it was 2015-2017, one of the first and only stories being told this way (other than the 8 international remakes that were released later). Julie Andem, the creator, spent the year before this travelling around norway, extensively interviewing 16 year olds on their lives/thoughts/problems/etc, and took inspiration from their stories. I was and still am heavy into this fandom haha Really curious about your thoughts!

Am I late to the train ride? If you have time, I do recommend you to watch the whole 4 seasons. As you mentioned, this show way of filming is so "real", it really feels like you are actually in a real life scenario at school, even the music fits perfectly, its a perfect balance and a work of art that I think is worth being experienced. I'm sure someone has mentioned by now, but back when the show was airing, we would get the episodes as small clips on the day and time they happen in the show (so if you see Monday 20:35, the clip would be released at Monday 20:35). We would also have "real" Instagram accounts of the characters, updating stories and pictures in real time. It was an experience like no other.

Ohhh Skam is my favourite show for so many reasons: the acting, the script, the revolutionary format releasing clips in real time, the social media of the characters and the the music!!! It’s very sad that you are watching a version which doesn’t have the original music because the songs always match the plot so cleverly and amazingly. I would also recommend read the plot of previous seasons because otherwise you will loose context and it helps a lot to understand Isak’s reactions. Wow Skam is so good, What a journey!!

I still don't get why people tell others to just watch season 3 of skam and say you don't have to watch 1 & 2. If you watch from the beginning you get used to how the show is structured, you can see the full arc these characters have taken. Your essentially just throwing out hours of important character development and story just to watch the gay season, instead of allowing isak to actually earn his season. This isn't an anthology series, so you'll find a lot of story plots confusing when it comes up during the season. I'll never understand this, especially because I found 1 & 2 just as enjoyable as season 3.

SKAM is a world for kids hence you almost never see the adults faces. Sana is definitely a character. She is the subject of season 4 which is also very good. I really like SKAM and I also watched the some of the other version: SKAM France, SKAM belgium (WTF), SKAM Italy and SKAM Germany. They are all very good. And SKAM means shame in Norwegian.

Oh cool guys, you're doing Skam, you're gonna love it. Sana is my girl, she's the best one of them all, her season (season 4) is great as well.

All the seasons are worth watching. And you do miss a lot of background on Isak by skipping the previous seasons. I hope you watch them as well :) And it is nothing like a mainstream story, but you'll see it yourself soon enough. The paper towels scene is one of my favorites, and Greta is definitely rolling :)
