Each season is filmed slightly different because it’s from the main character’s pov. Even other characters might look or behave slightly different because that’s how they are perceived by our current main character. It’s really fascinating to see if you watch all four seasons. 😊

Isak’s locker is a metaphor for his struggles with sexuality. Sometimes it opens easily and at other times he can’t get it open. Very subtle detail - but it says a lot about his current mental state! :)

Yeah exactly- the name for locker and closet is the same in Norwegian. So when he’s struggling with opening his locker it’s like he’s struggling with opening, or rather, coming out of the closet

The teacher thing is intentional! You were right with Isak hyperfocusing on it, but another reason is that the creator of the show wanted all the focus to be on the teenagers and how they view the world, so you’ll notice there are very few adults actually shown side note: i’m so happy you picked up on the romeo and juliet thing so quickly!

Skam means shame in Norwegian. As we follow Eva (Season 1), Noora (Season 2), Isak (Season 3), and Sana (Seaon 4) we see how shame is shaping their actions, and their journey in starting to overcome shame. Isak lives in a collective (flat) with Eskild and Linn. Noora used to live in the collective too, but is currently in London with her boyfriend William. That’s who the group were FaceTiming in the first episode. Isak is 17 and in his second year of Nissen, while Even is 19 and is repeating his third year and has transferred from Bakka to Nissen. We’re given more context to why Isak doesn’t want to live with his parents throughout the season, and the mystery behind why Even transferred to a different school isn’t really revealed until the fourth and final season. But like I said, many of this can be answered by the title of the show- ‘shame.’ Also Baz Luhrmann’s directing plays a big part in the season, so if you’re a fan of his work especially Romeo + Juliet keep an eye out for any parallels. The time 21:21 is very significant too, so any mention to that, you’ll know something big is happening/ a turning point is about to happen. Hope this adds to your viewing experience!! ❤

The soundtrack for SKAM was like another character. There's so much subtext if you pay attention. For instance, the final shot of episode one, where Isak, Emma, and Even are sitting together, the song that plays is called Threesome. 😃

I´m norwegian and yes some people move out when they are high school age for different reasons. Usually because of distance between your home and the school, but sometimes because they don´t want to live with their parents anymore.

I don’t know if anyone has sort of explained how Skam works for you guys, but each clip starts with a date and time because that’s when the individual clips were released and then on Friday, the whole episode with all the clips would come out. Also, the characters all had Instagram accounts they’d update throughout the season and you can find sites with translated text messages etc between all the characters. I’d just hold off on looking for the extra content outside the show until the season is done as it likely has a lot of spoilers for future episodes. But yeah, Skam was like a whole immersive experience. Really unique, I loved it.

Yes the teacher is supposed to be headless haha you'll notice that there are only few adult faces shown in the series. To emphasize that the series is about the teenage experience, adults are relegated to minimal roles

Did you pick up on Even’s comment “we can’t go back now” supposedly because of all the spices he put on the sandwiches, to which Isak says “no we can’t go back,” after looking adoringly at Even.

Love your reactions so much! Norwegian upper secondary education and culture surrounding it is really something else, whenever you're baffled have a peak at previous episodes' comment section ;) Some facts: Detention isn't a thing in Norway. :) The boobs is intentional, the teacher is credentiated as "puppedama/tits woman". Lots of Bas Luhrman hommages this season

I just love how this show is able to both get you so puzzled about some stuff, AND so invested at the same time. Loved your observation about the conversations between everyone around Isak actually being how he experiences them, not necessarily how young people "just are nowadays". Hadn't looked at it like that until now. Can't wait to watch the rest with yous with this in mind. Is it next Wednesday already? :) Enjoy, darlings!!! Thanks for making me smile so much :)

Some informations about the previous seasons for a better understanding of s3: - S1 was Eva’s season (the redhead girl who hosted the party in ep1) and her, Jonas and Isak have been friends since middle school, Eva and Jonas used to date but *SPOILER* broke up and Isak was kind of involved in the drama regarding their break up and at the end of S1 Eva found gay porn on Isak’s phone and it was hinted that Isak had a crush on Jonas. Also in S1 Isak was still living at home with his parents but he didn’t have an easy situation ‘cause his dad left and his mom didn’t cope with it really well so he also left. - S2 was about Noora (the blonde girl they were facetiming last episode and is now in London) and well her story is a lot and not really related to Isak so there isn’t much you need to know EXCEPT she used to live in this apartment, this a students shared apartment and Eskild and Linn (Isak’s roommates) are older and are probably Uni students, Noora also didn’t have a good relationship with her parents so she lived there, when she moved to London with her boyfriend basically Isak took the opportunity to leave home and take her room. I think this covers the basics regarding Isak in past seasons 😂

Yes, each season is from the main character's point of view, which makes for an interesting change of pace. (The first 2 seasons were from girls points of view, so now we're seeing all that "bro culture" that surrounds Isak but he just doesn't get. Will he understand gay culture?) Isak's story starts in season one where you find out about his living situation. I believe Evan was held back a year (?) which is why he is older. Love that you were able to spot the Romeo & Juliet references, etc!

Oh gods this was such a solid watch. Your reactions to even!! I noticed you guys were talking a lot about how the show is shot, and i think Skam France is a good choice after the OG because unlike the other skam remakes, it sets out to do its own thing cinematographically. Skam OG is reminiscent of furious youth and elbows bumping into one another -- all jagged lines and stark awkwardness. Skam france, while centered around the french versions of the OG, is about minute detail and emotions bursting forth from scenes shot like paintings -- all poetry and prose, but still coming from a shaky foundation built around youth. Skam france is one of the shows most popular remakes, often competing with druck, the german remake. Both are incredibly different but exquisitely beautiful. You guys def dont have to film the experience. I just hope you give it a chance even if privately. Skam og, gave me a good slap in the face while Skam france made me sob, but also made me thankful for it.

Thanks, now I can rewatch it again ❤ You are right about many things, I wish you watched S1 before that so you could have seen more backstory of Isak, so this is definitely not the first time for him to question his sexuality. I think by s3 (the current one) he knows that he is gay, but still doesn't want to accept it.

Yes, 2021, Sweden (19.0 years) recorded the lowest average age of young people leaving their parental home, and Portugal (33.6 years) the highest. In Stockholm the average is a bit higher (22), than the rest of Sweden, due to a lack of apartments. In the EU, the average age of young people leaving their parental home was 26.5 years. I don't have any figures for Norway, but I think it's similar to Sweden. It's not very common to move out when you're 16-17 as Nora and Isak did, but it's not uncommon either. Especially if you live in the countryside, and it's far to the high school you want to attend, like if you want to go to a one that has a speciality that you're interested in.
