Satisfactory is one of my favourite games of all time, but this game Astro Colony has snuck up on me and though it is very early access it could be a promising automation game for any satisfactory lover. It's currently going through a kickstarter campaign and is definitely worth checking out and backers get access to the demo!

I wouldn't say that any game in this genre is a "killer" for the others. Having played 1200, 550 & 150 hours of Factorio, Satisfactory and Dyson, i can say that none of those makes me want to leave the others behind.

As a developer of this game, I totally agree. Our intention is not to "kill" any game. We want to make an evolution in games, introducing options that are nonexistent in Factorio, SF, DS, etc. Our aim is to be different, combine some games from different genres to create something new. In some ways we will never be as good as those, in other we will be better than any game that exists now. We started creating this game before Satisfactory was even announced.

@@qwertykonrad How are you supposed to create an "evolution in games" by April with a single programmer? The Satisfactory team is like 40+ people total with several programmers, and they've been in early access for years. Why don't you hire more people? With the performance issues your game has and all the features you claim you will add as stretch goals it's hard to take you seriously when you claim you expect the game to be ready for launch in April.

@@mr.mister311 We're also creating this for years and we already have many things different from SF. Optimization for our game is for example one of the differences. You can have thousands of people walking, kilometers of conveyor belts and thousands of machines and the game will work fine even on a normal PC.

This looks interesting. I would so love the ability to modify the terrain in Satisfactory. Being able to flatten areas out or dig tunnels through mountains would be a game changer.

I really liking what I see so far. The game looks like a cross between Satisfactory and Dyson Sphere Project. I think that the game needs a lot of work. Namely, improving the models and textures of the various machines and foundations, as well as giving players the option to explore full-size planets rather than small, disc-shaped planetoids, but this is pretty much true for all games in alpha release. P.S: I think it's dumb for demolishing and replacing machines to be a research tier. It should be part of the basic controls just like in every other factory building sim game.

Well obviously in its current state it's no replacement for Satisfactory. They especially need to work on their terrain creation. But I do see some interesting elements so I'll keep my eye on it.

Every factory game that comes out I see builds off the last. I see bits of Hydroneer, Dyson Sphere Program, ASTRONEER, Satisfactory, and what I call Satisfactory's prequel Factorio, in this.

Id like to see more please. All the games you mentioned are good, but I don't see one as a killer for another. They are all different in their own ways and there is plenty to enjoy in all of them.

Strange comparison with Star Citizen, despite a very long development, thats a company with multi-millions of backing. The main concern with campaigns like this one is that they will not have enough money to complete, especially if kickstarter is their only funding source. This platform and the goals of campaigns is a bit more of a marketing stunt than anything else and can actually be very expensive, sometimes much more than what is raised. I've run campaigns and advertising/marketing costs can be crippling... However despite all that I do still like to believe in projects like these, so I'll be backing it and keeping a close eye. Lets hope the support it will receive from people here contributes to its end success. Well done TotalXclipse for finding and supporting kickstarter projects, lets hope there are more out there like this one!

I also love SE and SF. Mechanics in this game (based on this video) looks very attractive, but graphics can't compete neither SE nor SF. The style reminds me a bit of hospital tycoon games I used to play 10+ years ago.

I give you props for maintaining objectivity regarding the game despite backing it. As an aside, I get so puzzled why society seems to be constantly in search of a -killer game. Seriously, why is that necessary? It's something that happens naturally if certain games have parallel developments, hyping up a new indie game as a possible killer of another game, to me at least, seems to be very reductive and hurts the indie dev scene. For me, if I see a game that advertises itself as a killer of another game, I'm more prone to scroll on by, if I see a review that advertises the game as a possible killer of a game, I tend to not pay attention to that review too. Not a commentary directed at your review of last years demo, mind you, just kind of a tangent that came to mind towards the end of the vid.

Imagine an actual SE and Satisfactory fusion game. Instead of pointlessly making things in Satisfactory, you need a big factory to make ships and such. SE just makes things too easy to produce. It would be great for multiplayer because people could specialize. You make the factory, your friend builds the ships. And PvP would involve attacking the other faction's production capacity. It could even become kind of an RTS. You could play shorter games where each side has to build a factory and produce ships to attack the other side's factory and supply lines.

Hmmm, there's some potential here but I'm not sold yet. DSP came out with a bang, huge playability and polish. If this looked more like space engineers, I'd be more interested, but the flat rock platforms would bother me.

Satisfactory has no interim goals other than leveling and min maxing. I think there’s still a market for a first person factory game with more survival elements, base defence etc

I backed the project and started playing the demo after watching this and I had a question. Most of the tech tree is locked, and I can't seem to create drones/scientists for automation. I am assuming that it is just because the demo is a bare-bones experience to get people interested, and these features will be unlocked later. Am I missing something perhaps? Did you manage to get further? Would love to keep playing if it is unlockable!

There aren't a huge amount of tech unlocks available in the demo, it really is just to give a flavour of the game. In the video, you see a clip of me looking at the robot assembler, but noticed I couldn't build any of the robots this early on.

Great new ideas. Note Green and Blue is very hard for colour blind folks to tell difference. Having a colour blind mode would be nice

Any game that involves using a Pickaxe in Space is already in a hole that it needs to dig itself out of. A pick is a terrible way to mine in space without strong gravity. (Pointing a finger at STARBASE...)

Was the same thing i was thinking about. FortressCraft had an atrocious building / upgrading menu system. The Tower defence, mining and deep mining and minecraft parts of this game where fun. If you figured out how they worked. I will keep a eye on this game.

But from the footage that I'm seeing here the interface needs a lot of work animations need a lot of work and it needs to have a little bit of comical relief. And it better be multiplayer or Co-op

problem with voxel is just that the terrain map just never looks very unique. Least Valheim countered that by making the focus more on combat and gear upgrades but if it is just a base building game then it needs to be compared to Satisfactorys art'ed up map

Satisfactory killer? No. I think what you and me and probably a lot of other people are getting is the appeal of that new game rush that has probably faded a bit from hundreds or thousands of hours of Satisfactory. It's the same thing we got from Subnautica, Space Engineers, Factorio or any other game of this type that you've enjoyed in that sleep deprived dopamine overdose we all enjoyed at the start. But in the end you come to the fact that they're all the same game in a different wrapper. Will I be playing it? Maybe. I haven't got to the end of Satisfactory yet.

This is early alpha so things are going to change, it is a good blend of the two, but the digging mechanics are what I think will separate it and make it it's own game

did not know this game, seems to be very good but I was disappointed that to test the game on the demo is only for those who give or gave support and this is very disappointing, as they do not let me download the demo then when it is released I prefer not to buy, if the company that is creating the game thinks it is a good decision to do that, I say now that it is a very bad decision, they will only lose buyers in the future by not letting people test the demo
