I had this for the first week but the cables drove me crazy lol. So I decided to sell my Astros and buy a Steelseries Arctis 7X to use with my PS5 and Series X. The sound quality is incredible and I'm very impressed as its my first wireless headset. Great video and I'm sure it'll help some people out who are trying to setup their A40's 👍

@@CrezOG yes mate they are fantastic, the sound quality is immense. A lot more clarity than the Astros. For hearing footsteps etc in FPS games they are miles better. For me they are more comfortable than the Astros as well. Battery life is great, easily get 20 hours on a charge. I was dubious at first having only had wired headsets in the past but I wouldn't go back now. They are great 👍

@@CrezOG nah never that. If it’s more clarity then your headset wasn’t fined tuned. The fact that Astros allow the different modes and then the fact that you can go into each mode and fine tune the sound decibels makes this headset superior. Plus for someone who games competitively, being able to turn surround sound off for games like Siege, makes it the best headset on the market

I followed this & it works for my astro a40 TR. with the mix amp. The usb plug in differs from model to model. Use the usb u got from the oriiginal box (astro headset) . U will be fine!

The hdmi adapter usb can connect to another power source besides your ps5 to free up a space for you ps5. The usb that’s plugged to you mix amp has to be plugged into your ps5 so it can show in your input and output sound settings.

you also must set up the audio to be hdmi not astro head set ..if you can remove the optical cable and still hear audio ..the optical cable is doing nothing..when you select hdmi output in the audio settings you only hear the audio when the optical cable is plugged in..this is the whole purpose of the astro audio extractor to get your audio from the optical cable to give you high quality audio

You don’t need the adapter. Can do chat and game mix from the PS5 menu. Or if you have an optical in your tv just run the optical from the tv to the base station. You keep hdmi 2.1 and have everything else the adapter gives without screwing up the hdmi.

FYI you can buy any hdmi 2.0 optical spidif splitter and it works the same. I bought a $20 one off amazon and it works perfectly. I personally have the Xbox One version of A50 gen 4. But I have my usb plugged into my pc and I get voice chat there and game audio from the splitter. Idk why Astro really went cheap on their splitter but still charge $40. Their splitter is not HDMI 2.1 and they said that is because most games on the ps5 will only do up to 60fps.....well what about cold war.....anyways I only play story exclusives so that part didn't matter to me but I wanted to mention it here for everyone.

I got one of these and I got the video to work and everything but I couldn’t connect my headset. I figured out the the small USB cable that came with the adaptor was faulty. It powers the mixamp, but the PS5 doesn’t recognize it. As soon as I plugged in my PS4 controller charging cable to the adaptor, sure enough, I could connect my Astros headset. So just a heads up, the USB that came with the adapter didn’t work. I even tried connecting my mixamp with it to my laptop to update it or something, and the cable wouldn’t register the mixamp at all once again

This looks so ridiculously complicated, why did Sony get rid of optical ports? Honestly, it seems like they are making a statement with that choice. Optical cables are no longer relevant. It pains me to say as I have a headset that uses an optical port but I think these are gonna become a thing of the past within a year at most, especially since Sony has made it so difficult to use a headset with an optical cable.

I suggest anyone who has both next gen systems to actually skip the Astro adapter and simply get the Monoprice blackbird 4k hdmi splitter. For ~$130-150, it's an HDMI switch that supports the higher bandwidth of both next gen systems, and has a built in audio extractor to boot. Best of all is it frees up needing of multiple Astro splitters, 1x for each console. Which require thier own power source. The blackbird hdmi switch requires just a single tos link cable for output and a single power cable.

If so, could you explain how the connections work in regards to the adapter as all I can find are videos with people recording game chat with elgato but using optical to PS4 pro but I have slim atm soon to be ps5 and there is no optical. Hey glad it helped!! I record my game chat just by using the capture card the PS5 has! If your playing with friends in a party chat make sure they have theyre settings set correctly so when you record games you can hear them in the video! And are you meaning you're having trouble recording game chat audio?

I'm seeing so many complaints about the audio sounding terrible with astros and the arctis pro's with new consoles because they were designed for optical. Does the astros sound as good as they should the way you have it setup? Like as good as hooked up to a PC? Do all the headset features work (game/chat mix)? I have the xbox a50's, but I'll be looking at either new playstation a50's or arctis pro's because I'm switching to PS5 this time around for their exclusives, but still mostly PC gaming. Sure would've been nice if they would have just kept optical ports on the consoles.

No the adapter is capped at 60HZ HDMI 2.0. I mean you can still use it when playing at 2.1 which supports 120HZ, sadly you wont get the 120HZ because the adapter is capped at 2.0. As for the steel series I have that hooked up on my pc so I wouldn't be able to help u with that.

I connected everything the same way before watching this video however it will not allow me to turn down the voice/game or turn up the voice/game, its like it is in some weird limbo stage where I can never get it to just channel one option, for example it will not allow me to just turn the game volume all the way down and the voice all the way up, no matter how I turn my knob it does not correspond to what I am hearing

Remember guys the adapter is hdmi 2.0 so you will not be able to play games at 4k 120fps. If your TV has a optic input plug it on there and it will work. Also if you are having issues charging in rest mode you can plug the USB directly into the headset and it will charge 👍

Hi, so let me clear it up Hdmi 2.1 is NEEDED for 4K120 (4k) i can't stress it enough... So to your question Yes u can use a 1080p 120/144hz monitor and u will get 120 frames at 1080p (1440p might be added in the Future)

The problem with using the hdmi optical extractor is the hdmi will be limited to hdmi 2.1 which is 4k 60hz which will limit your response time and refresh rate if you display is a 144hz or higher your literally wasting it.. You can actually run it straight usb only will lose the ability to use the game and voice knob

I've ran my optical audio cable directly into my TV rather then into the PlayStation, I've ran it this way for years. I'm guessing newer TVs don't have optical audio outputs? I've not got a PS5 to test if my way works yet but I can't see why it wouldn't work, the TV is just doing the same job as the Astro box right?

With my PS4 and my PC, I would plug the USB cable from the Mix Amp into my PC, and then plug the Optical Audio cable from the Mix Amp to my PS4. That allowed me to hear audio from both at the same time. However, the mic only would go through whichever system had the USB plugged into it, which was fine because, I would use Discord to talk my friends on there and would still be able to hear my games on the PS4.

Do you still have to connect the Astro a40 to the mixamp or you can connect it to the dualsense controller ? I use my astro mixamp on pc, but with my PS5 i play with my saloon TV so im not confortable with having 20meter of cable crossing the romm from my PS5 to my couch lol

Does yours make a buzzing, rattle noise when you run a game. Mute the audio and put your ear next to it, mine makes a noise, and I’m a little concerned.

I'm a little confused. I have the same headset and amp as you use in the video. I emailed ASTRO yesterday for a solution and was told that the headset and amp wasnt supported!?!?
