It is believed that Murad III the sultan of the Othman empire built the largest observatory in the medieval time in 1577. He wanted this observatory to rival the one built in Samarkand in the beginning of the 15th century. This was at a time when Europe had no idea what real astronomy is. When the observatory was completed, a comet appeared in the sky and Murad III asked the scientists working in the observatory to tell him what they can make of this comet. Apparently the people of that time still didn’t know the difference between Astrology and Astronomy. The scientists didn’t know what to answer the sultan and replied to him that the Ottoman Empire is going to be prosperous and that they will invade Persia. Few months later, a plague hit the Ottoman Empire and many people died. The sultan was so furious about their prognostication and ordered the demolition of the observatory and the end of the astronomical discoveries in the Muslim world. In the mean time, the construction of another observatory in Denmark was completed which the scientist Kepler used to make important discoveries and a century later it helped Newton to come up with his universal law of gravity which set the stage centuries later for the start of the Industrial Age and the scientific revolution in the west. The bottom line is that it only requires one authoritarian closed minded decision to change the course of history and decide the fate of a nation.

That’s bullshit, there’s no such thing as Islamic civilisation because Islam was originated in a largely uncivilised environment, where there were only camels, tents and sand. So how come people from such place claim to “civilise the rest of humanity”? In Egypt the public instruction of the youth was well underway way long before even Judaism, not to mention how Persia, Syria and North Africa were rich in culture, order and fascinating things along with coexistence from members of all faiths, before those hot tempered, radical desert men came and violently plundered it and enforced upon them the fascist Arabic religion. Philosophy was seen as hereditary and banned, science was also highly restricted except for few things after several centuries of expansion. Perhaps as a result of being in touch for people like Spaniards and Persians who were undoubtedly of higher culture. Most of the scientific achievements were done by Christian scholars, as well as architecture, which was either a direct rip off of Byzantium style or conquered peoples monasteries and churches turned into mosques by one sweep. Islam creates nothing but backwardness, violence and hatred. Did they really need to go all the way to Christian Spain or Persia to display Islamic culture rather than their native land?…

It's really curious to know how much contemporary astrology has become different from ancient astrology, so I'm glad this is going to be a collaboration, even more so, comparing Middle East and West. Now when one considers the similarities between traditions, it's easy to assume they had a common origin. Yet it's hard to imagine how 'original' astrology could combine elements from European, Indian, Arabic and Chinese astrology O_o

@@naiman4535 The Indians/Hindus have a KILLER astrological system. Extremely sophistical, older & arguably more accurate than the current Western/Tropical astrology we have today. The Greeks are awesome! I’ve learned so much from other cultures, so I just want to shout them out as well!
@naiman45352 жыл бұрын
@@KayxzTarot The ancient Greeks ARE Western culture - they were the root of it. When you talk about Hindu Vedic Astrology being more accurate, you are probably referring to their use of the stellar / night sky based sidereal zodiac, which is based on the fixed stars and constellations, versus the solar based tropical zodiac of Western Astrology. Well, the ancient Greeks used the tropical zodiac, and even though many have considered that a mistake they made way back in the Hellenistic era, when the two zodiacs were still basically in sync, Steven Schmidt, the founder of Project Hindsight, and a key translator of the old Greek texts, says that they were fully aware of the two zodiacs, and consciously chose the tropical. There are astrologers who use both the sidereal as well as the tropical zodiacs; they say that the sidereal zodiac is better for event prediction, whereas the solar based tropical zodiac is better for the delineation of the individual soul and Spirit - which the Sun is our greatest celestial symbol of. With the sidereal zodiac being more lunar / stellar / night sky based, it is a more Yin frame of reference, whereas the solar based tropical zodiac is a more Yang frame of reference.

As Sindh was under the actual rule of the Khalif Mansur (AD 753-774), there came embassies from that part of India to Bagdad and among them scholars, who brought with them two books. With the help of these Pandits Alfazari, perhaps also Yaqūb ibn Tāriq, translated them. Both works have been largely used, and have exercised a great influence. I note that the same debates took place in Christendom about the role of the stars , namely do they compel or merely act as guides? Also, many Western astrologers and apologists for magic made a distinction between natural and demonic magic, with astrology being classed as belonging to the former category. Very illuminating talk.

I always thought it was funny how astrology (roughly the "logic of the stars") took the name that modern astronomy would have liked to apply to itself, but because that naming convention was already so thoroughly entrenched, they had to settle for the "naming of stars".

Your talk about astronomy reminds me of specific sunnah ( sunnah means: following the prophet path ) which is fasting in “ayyam al bi’edh” (the white days) every month when the moon is full, it’s three days in the month, 14, 15, 16…it depends on the month, That’s because the tides of the seas coincide with the movement of the moon. The matter applies to human blood as well . Therefore, our religion legislated for us to fast in those days, and it is not obligatory it is sunnah as I said, The one who does not do it is not sinful, but the one who did it will be rewarded.

The concept of Stellar rays / radiation is the same in African Sciences (namely the Ifa and buKongo faiths which form the basis of most African and Diaspora belief systems). I recently distributed wealth to friends and subscribers by harnessing the Urids meteor shower (17 - 22 December) which coincided with the Summer Solstice (22 December) in the southern hemisphere. This was after charging the written names of the individuals under several moon cycles and focusing the intent to flow to them. People will say it's "magic" but there really is no such thing. When you understand how everything is connected and how the elements, human vibration and natural vibration influence it, you understand how to make the energy of the Universe work to your will. Re: ~3:15 All schools of thought within Islam, as far as I know, agree that certain religious obligations require precise calculations which rely on the heavenly bodies' positions and timing (like the start/end of Ramadan, identifying the qibla, etc.). So I find it ironic that certain schools would refuse to look more deeply into the movements and meanings of heavenly bodies (going beyond pragmatic purposes.) Might not one want to investigate why these specific positions of planets and stars mark such and such ritual? The way I see it, agreeing that all exists and persists through God's will-including oneself, other beings, and all else-implies an interconnectedness between and significance to every utterance in existence. Observing our relationship to surrounding celestial bodies is not so different from observing our relationship to our earthly ecosystems. Though I certainly would be weary of people claiming to have more insight than they might actually have.

What I believe as a muslim is that we humans know too little. There are greater complexities to this universe than we can ever even imagine to comprehend. And the lengths that we HAVE reached, i.e. through astrology and other studies, are not meant to make us want to indulge our curiosities further. What I have been told always, as a muslim, is that we must not go into the sphere of knowledge so deeply that it takes us away from God. Because being close to God, to us, is the goal at the end of the day. Not to say that 'Knowledge' is a bad thing. Thats certainly not the case. The first word in the Quran translates to 'READ'. What I am saying is that even though there are powers in these celestial bodies, we should not go to them for help or study them to the degree that it takes us away from God. To the extent that instead of asking God for help, we wholeheartedly rely on these celestial bodies. Yes we can study and observe them. But we must be wary of the fact that we're humans and we get easily enchanted by such intriguing topics. We love to "see" and "experience" miracles rather than have patience and resolute that God does not need to show us miracles every day for us to believe in him. Thats why going deeper into astrology is probably a bad thing for muslims. It holds the possibility of taking us away from worshipping God, and relying on these bodies to fulfill our need for experiencing miracles. Allah swt knows best, and He knows what is beneficial for us and what is not. Moreover, if muslims studied astrology to the extent that the west has done, it would have terrible implications for the muslim world. I personally believe that humans are a curious species that always look for reason and logic behind things they don't understand. To such a degree that when we do understand it to our best capability, its still not enough. The real truth is that we'll never know the full-picture. Only God knows that. So why not just rely on Him, who actually made those celestial bodies. Relying on Him will give us greater power than relying on astrology. Anyways, hope that made sense! Have a great day/evening :)

However there is a book from a one of thee most popular Turkish sufi sheik Ibrahim Hakki titled Marifetname where he wrote how to read the stars.

User1 No that is incorrect the stars could never foretell the future. It was the jinn who were able to go up to the sky and were able to listen in on the angels discussing the affairs of the people of the earth. But then when Allah sent the prophet peace be upon him. Allah placed stern guards with in the lowest heaven to guard it in order to prevent the jinn from ascending and listening to the angels. This was done to protect the revelation of the Quran from being heard by the jinn and then being passed on to the fortune tellers. There is no proof from islam which states that stars can predict the future. The stars can not predict the future The prophet peace be upon him clearly stated it is haram to predict the future and any one who does this or has it done for him exits the fold of islam. Abu Dawud in his Sunan with a sahih isnad from Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever learns anything of astrology has learned a branch of witchcraft (al-sihr)…” Al-Bazzar narrated with a sound chain of transmission from ‘Imran ibn Husayn that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “He is not one of us who practises augury or has it done for him, who tells fortunes or has his fortune told, or who practises witchcraft or has that done for him .Allah says (interpretation of the meaning); “Say: ‘None in the heavens and the earth knows the Ghayb (Unseen) except Allah…’” [al-Naml 27:65]

So Tropical Astrology (which is what is practiced here in the West) ... or Sidereal/Vedic Astrology? Tropical Astrology follow the Traditional placement of the planets, while Sidereal works with the actual placement of the planets. ... It was also interesting to hear you mention Harran, which I've been reading up on recently. At one time citizenry from there made pilgrimages to the Pyramids; and, also, Abram was supposedly kicked out of Harran for going around breaking up statues. Very interesting.

Have any scholars looked deeply into how close Al-Kindi was to discovering radiation? Because the stars legitimately do emit radiation toward Earth, and life on Earth does seem to be pretty dependent on that radiation for survival (primarily within the visible and UV frequency bands), but I'm not so sure about how the positions of the stars relative to Earth would affect the overall content of our atmosphere's background radiation. It seems plausible, from a layman's perspective. that fluctuations in that background radiation might have significant effects on human life, but I've never really encountered any research that addresses that possibility.

@deadcakesandpanlifts20192 жыл бұрын
Not really accurate, just because the 2 things share somewhat of a characteristic, it doesnt mean radiation was what he was referring to. Al kindi implied that they affect stuff like the destiny of humans and emotions, stuff like outcome of battles etc, which we know it most definitely does not.
@andythedishwasher11172 жыл бұрын
@@deadcakesandpanlifts2019 lol well we do have an awful lot of weird notions in our media about radiation being useful in battle, but I kinda doubt myself that he was actually manipulating it. I'm more of the opinion that, in seeking an explanation for previously existing sets of behaviors among his peers (magical behaviors specifically), he may have arrived at a basic theory of radiation despite fairly drastic misconceptions about its role in human affairs. His observational data, at the very least, would probably have proven useful to future scientific thinkers examining the nature of these "rays".
@andythedishwasher11172 жыл бұрын
@@deadcakesandpanlifts2019 I do concede, however, that there may in fact be another phenomenon he was referring to, but if that is the case, we have far fewer tools to examine that possibility which makes the radiation concept more interesting for me to explore.

The rays theory is interesting and I don't even claim it's false but it would be really interesting to see a scientific replicable procedure of producing and using these rays with e.g. animal sacrifice since the amount of animals in meat industry is so large that it's no problem doing 1000 sacrifices and seeing the results in hard data, if it indeed works. If however it doesn't produce any clear result it sounds more like an interesting story around a non-effective method than an actual valid explanation. Sound valid and being valid have little to do with each other sometimes.

umm there is another aspect in occult science, and that is PRAYERS and power of prayers and some words in Islam they call it "DUA" which is kind of similar to saying some spells or concentrating their mind like Telepathy to God which it is supposed to be heard or answered, or work in that way. Prayers like avoiding effect of evil or getting cured by some words or spells like magic spells. You Should also check this out as well, Flip.
