I have made a semi-automatic nanocarbon alloy factory. it produces 24 of the alloys per yield. it's also (kinda) cheap! this just goes to show how revolutionary this update is!

@@toastercosmique4390 it's simple but its setup on all of the planets to give materials that are needed at each station, at Glacio you get graphite iron and titanium. On sylva you get hydrazine etc. hope this helps!

So far the best use made of the auto arm is unloading the chem stations production. I put a medium canister on ether side outputting whatever I was making and the auto arm unloading into storage. It's a nice way to make a bunch of alloys without babysitting it.

I just use the auto arm for the extra large shredder, but I didn't know that it uses constant power, now I know to turn it off when not shredding something thanks!!

So I've noticed this that some of the resources I use the auto extractor on will respawn. It will eventually drain the resources and I'll move on to another resource spot nearby. Then like within 2 to three day cycles I'll come by the old resource spot to find that it's back to how it was prior to being extracted.

I don't know if it was a glitch or not but I had an auto extractor with a full canister on top. It kept running and built up a bunch of compound on it's output. When I clicked on the compound it exploded out and away from the extractor. It was actually pretty funny.

Do you know how large a collection radius the extractor has? It seems like you could plan out a grid to get all of a resource the most efficient way. If you go for the largest green bar you could end up having to move the extractor an extra time or more to get everything.

It's radius is about 4 astroneers laying down, from the feet. The green bar doesn't affect output, it only says how many resource nodes are in a given area, just move the extractor when the bar reaches full black. Most resources come in smaller batches so you should only have to move it 3-4 times... by then you will have several hundred of your resource

Thank you fdr your excellent Astroneer guides. I bought the game a week ago, my 7-year old had been asking for it and it went on sale so I bought 3 copies, for my 2 kids and myself. They've been playing in creative mode, but I'm running through story mode. The in-game information is often not as clear as it could be. The first time I set up the auto extractor, I couldn't understand why they put the resource way up high where it's hard to reach. It didn't occur to me that I could put the medium resource canister on top to be filled, so I was grabbing the stuff by hand as it was produced and sticking it in the canister myself. I'm usually fairly logical about stuff like this, but feel they could have explained this in the in-game guide.

The Auto arm can be a little bugged when you've been in the same world for a long time or the Auto arm can be a little bugged (all the time. It happens to be wrong cases for me.) For example (time): 2:26 or 6:47 then if you've been in the same world for a long time or if auto arm bugs. (For me crazy cases.) The bugs happen to me and I don't know if the bugs happen to anyone else. The bug is that the Auto arm has something to take on a platform or from a storage but it doesn't. It does not take items that are on the platform or from the storage. But if you start it, the Auto arm (manually) or from a button repeater the Auto arm will take the item.

Same thing here, you can combine the arm with a storage sensor, so it will be on and off many times and the autoarm will not just stop.

Jumbo storm does deselo (terran moon) look like an yellow/orange spin top while your in space? while I'm in space, it dosnt show the planet, it just shows a sheet of Orange/yellow for were it's supposed to be... I can still travel to it but it's annoying because I wanna see the planet

There’s a bug at the moment, if you try to repackage the auto extractor the game crashes

Never crashed for me... and you don't need to repackage it anyhow, you can put it on a large rover in the unpackaged state, it'll stick to it. But don't forget to first turn it off, or it'll keep constantly sucking 8 power/s from the rover.

I dont repackage. I fly around or dig tunnels till I find the next resource then I grab it and fly with jetpack to next location.

Time to set up the auto-extractor system, you have time to harvest everything manually

You can also use the hover board to move the auto extractor; I used mine to move it to the Slyva core so I could extract Astronium.

It eventually runs out, but it harvests much more than manually mining the deposit.

It will eventually go away. The green bar on the auto extractor tells you how much is remaining.

I will say running power to these deposits for the auto extractor (as i just found out what they do late game) is a real pain.

So true. You need to make little power stations at the auto extractor locations. RTGs work best, but you could get away with using wind power in caves as well. Works really well on planets that have high wind.

Can the auto extractor get soil? I'm hoping to use it with a soil centrifuge and smelter to make an automatic carbon creation chain to power generators.

Sadly, no. You need to get soil, but you can still make the carbon powered automation, and it works well.

Is a train better than auto arms?? I want to make my second playthrough as streamlined as humanly possible and I ignored auto extractors on my first, because I wanted to learn mechanics before starting that mechanic... that and trains lol.

Trains help with distribution, but you will need auto arms and maybe even extractors to deliver the items to the train. Hope that helps.

The auto arm is da bomb with the filter slot. I wish it were a little more context aware though, for instance when a large silo B is placed in the circle, it would recognize the outmost resources on medium silos attached to the large B. That's a much more straightforward and quicker sorting method than pass the potato until it finds a home though space requirements would still require multiple stations I suppose for really diverse resource collections. You know what this update really really did? Made a bunch of busy work! And I know my busy work; I have several saves that are just collections of everything found on all planets/satellites; power, resources, balls, research, salvage and holiday event stuff...no pumpkins though!

My remote mining kit = 1 x Auto extractor, 1 x Auto arm, 1 x Large rover, 3xRTG's, 1x driver seat to move mobile miner around, 1 x Medium storage(mount floodlight, Beacon and store power extenders), 1 set power extenders(Extend to auto extractor), Beacon to locate mining site, 1 x Floodlight(light up mining site) and 1 x Large resource canister. Tow to mining site with explorer large rover and deploy.

I did not like the autoextractor. At the point you have tech and resources to make one of these Im sure there will be absolutely no need to put one of them in theses resources. Would be useful for other planets, but setup this on another planet is a lot harder. I simply dont see myself using that. Use 3 RTGs to collect resin and compound? Never. I rather dig dirty with my truck and produce them in-house.

Cheers, and welcome. The extractors do one great thing - they increase the amount of resources 10 fold. For now with almost unlimited resources they aren't that great, but with the coming custom game settings... They will be.
