He's had 4 starts, and the Astros lost 3. Won in the 9th on one. The last 2 loses were blowouts. Tonight was his 6th start counting the minors. He's done, put Blanco back in. I bet they still give Verlander another start.

I didn't want to believe it...... but Verlander is done. Maybe next year, wherever he ends up, he gets better again, but this year? Somethings wrong and it's not getting fixed. Based on his own comments, I don't have much of a doubt that, barring some wild 180 in his performance, there's an understanding that he's not going to be a part of the playoff rotation

How come you don't criticize Click for trading Wilyer Abreu to the Red Sox even though Abreu has been killing it in Boston? What about Bryan de la Cruz? Could use him right about now. As for this game? You know....I'm actually gonna take a lot of positives. They had a good offense tonight, 6 runs, broke out against a pretty good pitcher, and down 8-0 they actually made it interesting for a minute? Kinda gave you hope that they could actually pull off the comeback. Not a feeling we're used to. Took 2 of 3 from a red hot Dbacks team, the only loss coming because a broken pitcher got blasted. Not bad at all.

I don't know the most dignified and respectful way to get JV out of the starting rotation, but the Astros need to do it soon before he does any more damage. His fastball doesn't have the velocity or life anymore. He's throwing a lot of BP to these professional hitters, giving up lots of contact, runs, home runs, and losing games.

Agreed, maybe he can claim he re-aggravated an injury or something to save face, but he's done. I was worried last season when his FB was 93-94 right after 2022 season where he was 96-97 but no one else even seemed to care. Now it's pretty obvious he's a on a steep decline.

If you take away verlander (which needs to happen in a bigger way) it was actually a decent game. They were down 8-0 and kept coming. 2 good games in a row for chas. I hope he keeps it up. He could really solidify our line up if he gets even close to the level he was on last year

Update... After starting the season 12-24, the Astros are 77-66 with 19 games to go. If they finish 13-6, they will end the season at 90-72. The Astros are 5 games behind the Yankers for best record in the AL and 9 games behind the Dodgers for the best record in MLB. The Astros are also 4.5 games ahead of Seattle in the AL West and 4 games behind Cleveland for the number two seed in the AL. That is an amazing season.

It didn't matter which pitcher the Astros had on the mound...the D-Backs were smacking the ball. I was watching the game and everytime the D-Backs hit the ball a loud smacking noise reverberated in the stadium. One of their players had 3 HRs!?!?!? It looked like batting practice. I must agree with most everyone in this thread. You can stick a fork in Verlander. He may have one super game left in his body but that's about it. No sense in sending him to the mound 6 or 7 times waiting for that magical pitching performance when he loses most of them.

Verlander should have had a longer rehab or perhaps depending on the severity of his neck issue, which we don’t really know much about, he should have came back to relieve and gradually worked up to starting. I mean the dude graduated high school during Clinton administration… The old man is rusty as hell, but I stand with those that delivered like Champs before, and I’ll go down with this ship. We aren’t talking about dudes that never came through for us like Jake Myers, Singleton, Whitcomb, Dezenzo… This is Justy Verlander baby! He deserves our support. Watch him pitch a 7 inning combined no-hitter in playoffs .

Sometimes Altuve thinks he’s 7 feet tall or something, swinging at a pitch 4 feet off the freaking plate that he couldn’t possibly reach with his bat! Unbelievable that guy! But then again we also have Pena, the blind bat that swings at all of the bad pitches even if they hit the ground 5 feet in front of him! Verlander is totally washed. Hopefully all the other relivers got their bad games out of the way too. At this point use JV to start 1-2 more games then put Blanco back in the rotation when he's well rested. Maybe give him an HB start also, he's pitched a lot of innings this season but it depends on if we maintain the lead on Seattle.
