I haven't built a PC in a very long time. My computer is so old, it was made when ASUS was considered a top manufacturer, with the most reliable consumer level motherboards. It's really sad. Computer technology hasn't improved enough in recent years to be worth building a new PC like it was before. I remember going from an AMD Venice 3000+ in 2005 that did 2.4 GHz to an opteron 165 that was easily overclockable in 2007 and my CPUbenchmark score more than doubled! Almost a decade after I built the two PCs I used for all my video editing & recording at work and home... I still have to pay over $500 to get double the 30,000 cpubenchmark score I get on my old computer I built!!! I have an 18000 GPUbenchmark score with a GPU that cost a & 30000 CPU benchmark score. YEARS later, GPU that gets double what this one does costs almost $2000. For most average person uses, a ten year old PC is more than enough. I can render with nvidia hardware encoder set to high quality, slow, etc, at faster than realtime, I can stream with quality settings & record with crf=5, preset=fast, g=1, keyint=1 1080p60 without touching even 25% CPU, it boots instantly. Given how shitty most manufacturers are now,I will likely be keeping this for a long time.

@@rossmanngroupsadly, dead and dying parts, difficulty repairing those old components, and compatibility limitations drive 'normal' users to overspend on the shiny new parts that realistically don't perform any better for everyday tasks. The gaming and (less so now) crypto mining industry drive hardware upgrades for most so-called 'power users', which is sad in its own way as newer games are needlessly unoptimized to the point of needing that extra processing power to make up for it, while some older titles still look just as good and run far better on older hardware.

I bought an ROG Ally to replace my OnexPlayer. Asus made sure that I had to physically be there to sign for the package when it arrived and I cannot pick it up at a FedEx facility. I asked them to change it to leave at residence after speaking to FedEx who told me I have to ask ASUS to change it. I called Asus and they told me it would take 3 business days for the request to be processed. After three failed attempts FedEx policy is to send the package back to the manufacturer. Thank God for that FedEx driver being a bro. Because I can't freaking understand why it would take 3 days for Asus to send a request to FedEx and week and a half to get a refund AFTER the package is received back at their warehouse.

Louis, it's even worse than you make it out to be, the fee was to replace the screen, which according to them had to be replaced together with the case, for the sole reason of fixing the scratch that wasn't an issue. They completely ignored the joystick problem the device was sent in for at first. Not only were they trying to bail themselves out of a warranty claim, they actively tried to find other ways to steal money from GN.
@timshel1429

My understanding is that they would have fixed the other issues if GN had paid. But through their deceptive communication they absolutely do not make it clear and tried to scam 200$ with a fake replacement. After GN refused the bullshit replacement, they confirmed that the two defects covered under warranty would be fixed free of charge: - A joystick issue mentioned by GN and the source of the warranty claim - A full MB replacement due to defective SD card slot (which was not mentioned in the RMA by GN) Edit: added "in the RMA".

They announced they'd repair such defects for free even if the device was out of warranty, which mine was. So I sent it to a nearby authorized repair centre. The repair centre told me that because of minor cosmetic damage, and a bloated battery (caused by the defect), they not only wouldn't repair it, but wanted me to pay to send it back un-repaired! I had to go all the way to the support line of LG Korea to get them to knock that off, repair the device and send it back as promised. And then it died a few months later anyway.

I was pleasantly surprised by how easy the deck is to do some minor repairs when I had an issue a few months ago. Most components are very modular and easy to access and work with inside. They even sell a lot of official parts on ifixit like dpad membranes and analogue sticks. If they can do it, as essentially a software company, companies far more established in hardware should be able to.

Meh not very comfortable with the steam deck as I don’t feel like going through the hoops of relearning Linux and want more performance to play my games the deck can’t handle. I’m careful with my device and leave it on my desk in the same spot everyday so damaging it isn’t a problem for me. Never cared much for dropping scratches or any of the sort as I’m extremely careful with my handheld. The steam deck isn’t a “solution” in my eyes but surely a alternative if you like good support, I’d recommend the legion go over the Ally any day of the week as legion support is great and they’ll give you replacement controllers if you’re covered under warranty for free without even asking for proof😂 much better than ASUS

I've had nightmare experience with so called 'high end' dealerships / repair centers. It's all bullshit and I call them out on it (while documenting everything). Obviously not everyone knows when they are getting fucked but I do inspect any work done to my products when possible. You could have the most expensive car or product in the world and still get shit service. I have experienced this usually and pretty frequently with really expensive or so called 'high end' products. Biggest lesson I learned is to just buy with a good credit card when possible that's mostly pro-consumer. Company will not issue a refund after maybe a few minutes of using a broken product? Yes you are a Fanboi and your constant crying in their favor is why people get tricked into buying their crap. Yes CRAP! Backwards installed componernts that fry CPU's, insanely overclocked default settings designed to fry your System, the list goes on. Heck even had Caps blow on ROG crap within 2 weeks because of over voltage issues in their BIOS from the factory, so called factory optimized defaults. If you owned a business you would understand how consumers operate. When it's good all you hear is crickets, 1 tiny issue and the calls come flooding in and word of mouth spreads. I took photos of my tablet's brand new condition before I shipped it. After a week, i got an email from their warranty center saying my tablet was damaged and they sent me a bill for the repairs which was around $100. They even sent photos of my tablet that clearly shows it was pry opened with a prying tool leaving marks on the corner. This damage was not from shipping as I wrapped it around with lots of bubble wrap many times. I was so pissed and I called and emailed their corporate headquarters saying their repair center is running a complete scam ripping off people by intentionally breaking thier property and then charging people for repairs. I emailed them my photos of the tablet before i packaged it. Then I get an email from Asus that there will be no charge. i had a similar experience when i was trying to claim the warranty of my asus rog phone 5. my wifi receiver was completely dead for no reason and they decline my claim just because there was a tiny little nick on the power button. they returned my device with sloppy glue-work in the back glass and the rog logo led was not functioning as well all of a sudden. they're blatantly scamming their customers.

Asus also started locking bootloaders on their phones or making them unaccessible. They truly have gone downhill. About a couple weeks back I sent the FTC a letter asking them to look into the practices of bootloader locked devices that we own. I asked them to look into a policy of mandatory bootloader unlocking. They did respond and added my letter into their database to investigate further. I hope they actually look Asus needs to be sued to oblivion for this. EDIT: yeah this is sort of off topic of this particular video but it still matters. When companies start abusing practices start complaining, send letters to the BBB, FCC, FTC, etc. Make your voices loud and clear we won't tolerate their abusive practices no more.

We had a Samsung washer. It was so poorly engineered that after 1.5 years it broke and flooded our house. There is a fancy sticker on the outside that says "10 year warranty". So I called Samsung service and found out the warranty means they charge you to visit, the parts, and the labor. Since it was obvious the washer was doomed to flood again I just threw it out. Later Samsung was class action sued for making flooding washers. They gave the suing lawyers a bunch of money to go away and sent us owners a sticker to put around the control knob. Two thirds of the settings were gone, presumably the flood settings, and we were instructed to only point the knob where the lines remained. ASUS needs to learn from Samsung on how to properly defeat a factory warranty.

It was awful when Samsung entered the appliance market. Every young couple would come in and the first thing they'd say is 'We want Samsung!' and we had to bite our tongues to immediately reply, 'No you don't.' Though it became common practice for most of my team to steer people away from them because especially the washers got returned constantly (this was before the washing machines started exploding too.) I was involved in one of the first sales of their size record breaking new refrigerator for like $6000 - within days the main board died, all of the customer's food rotted, and the part was unavailable for repair. Caused me like a two month long nightmare handling it.

I actually had a great experience with a warranty repair of a Samsung product, though that was some time ago. And in Germany (the locale might make a difference.) It was a BD player slash 5.1 sound system. broke during warranty (weird stuff: the sound still worked, video throughput worked, but it couldn't generate any video itself). I sent it in, and it came back so fast I thought they'd refused the package or something. 3 day return trip. But no, it was fixed. Or maybe replaced outright, cos they couldn't have had the thing in their repair center for very long. They must have shipped it back out the very same day they got it. I don't think I'll ever see anything like that again.

Me and my wife bought a 800$ Samsung washer, and it broke down after only 4-5 months of use. It would be stuck on error codes mid wash and not even let me open the door so half my closet has rot up due to it been sitting in water for days because the technician wasn't able to come for 14 days(!!!) The guy came, and I mean two guys came. They "repaired" the washer and used 4 hours. I was sent a mail where I had to pay close to 300$ for them to come to my home. In our emails back and forth I wouldn't have had to pay if I SENT the machine, which according to them still wouldn't be covered by them which also would cost close to the same price due to it's size(?!) The washer broke down again, another error code, door still locked and my all my towels stuck in there. Called Samsung again really furious and said I wanted my money back, and they refuse because they have 3 chances to fix it. Fortunately for me, in Norway we have a company called "Elesco" which is an independent company that gives everyone a 5-year warranty on every appliances and will repair it without ANY hassle. They looked at it and told me nothing was repaired the last time, and a hose inside the machine was loose and not tightened so it kept getting loose inside the machine. Don't get me started on my ongoing Smart TV SAMSUNG 55" which gave me Super Mario-like transparent clouds on the entire screen the first time I turned it on. Unfortunately Elesco doesn't cover these types of stuff and I'm having an ongoing battle with Samsung. The screen works, but there are these kinda looking "Burnt in clouds". Samsung literally sent my TV back the first time claiming the screen works and told me to visit my local HW store to get it color corrected (!!??) A lawyer is looking like the only option right now.

Imagine your new car, barely any miles on it, is having engine trouble. The dealership arranges for pickup. A week later they call and explain the repair isn't warrantable due to pop found spilled in the center console. As the car is no longer under warranty it will be $700 to fix the engine and another $100 to deliver the vehicle back. The shop manager explains If the repair isn't paid for within three days you are on the hook to either pick up your car parts, or you will be billed for a flatbed delivery, as the engine and drive train, removed for diagnosis, will not be reinstalled due to lack of warranty coverage.

N64 controller is not breaking per say. It's a design flaw that makes the joystick really loose over time - especially after long sessions of joystick spinning in Mario Party 1. Even when loose, they still technically work but at a fraction of what they should. Otherwise? It's a really solid controller and well built. If you know why the joystick gets loose, you'll most likely take of it more. Btw. The Wireless N64 controller for NSO does not have the exact same mechanism under the hood despite looking the same.
