The reason for the lack of significant efficiency and battery gains is because this laptop has a discrete GPU. The discrete GPU probably draws ~60watts when in use. The irony with the "AMDs Macbook moment" comment is that AMDs moment came well before Macbook Air in the form of the Ryzen 4000 series. Dominated Intel in power, battery life, graphics, and price. You could get the midrange budget 5 option in a decent laptop of $500 and be better than than you would with some i7s of the same year. If any of you know/remember the Lenovo Flex/ideapad 5 14" with Ryzen 5 4500u, you know what moment I speak of. Everyone had a review of this in 2020, and it remained the go-to recommendation for budget buyers in the following year. When this series remained competitive with Intels next gen (Tigerlake) despite AMD having their another new series on the way, this is the moment Intel was forced to move away from the quad-core processors for good. It took Intel years to catch back up, and some might even say they still haven't in terms of efficiency, but at least they've closed the gap now. In any case, this new chip isnt there Macbook moment regardless since they just matched Qualcomm's efficiency (while still using x86 - that should be noted since thats impressive i guess). They havent made a big jump like Mac going from x86 to M1, or even like themselves going from Ryzen 3000 U series to 4000U series

@Matt-fo4gg3 ай бұрын
@@maciejrzepka7109 Well, for the most part whatever you're able to do in the ProArt hub you should be able to do with G-Helper, since G-Helper uses the same bios level controls but just without the extra bloat on top (so if it's not in the ProArt hub, it won't be in G-Helper). There may be colour profiles that can only be picked in the ProArt software though (since G-Helper was primarily for gaming laptops and ProArt laptops are fairly new I guess) so you might want to set that before you uninstall ProArt hub. Another good thing to be aware of is setting the power profiles between quiet, balanced, performance etc as well as making your own. Sometimes it's good to make your own fan curve, where you might decide that at 40c then the fans kick in, and you can adjust how aggressive or chilled the fans are as temperature increases. If you have this in the ProArt hub, it'll be in G-Helper as well. Another thing that may (or may not) be available on your specific model is being able to set the GPU to Eco mode which means it'll disable the Nvidia GPU and use the i-GPU inside the CPU instead, which saves heat and battery. I use this for everything where, except in Davinci Resolve, Blender, or games In terms of Asus things you want to keep, I'd keep the dial pad software mostly and once you run G-Helper there's a tool in extras which tells you how many unessential Asus services are running and it'll let you disable them from starting in the future. It'll keep the ones it needs or the ones that are useful like the dial pad software. This is a good way of seeing what you can uninstall. Overall though you can always re-download any of this from the Asus website where there's a page for your specific model 👍 and there's quite a few G-Helper tutorials on KZbin :)

The reason that you're most likely not seeing a huge difference in battery life is because that laptop has a GPU in it and GPUs suck back a tooon of power. If it was a model that only was using the AMD built in graphics then the difference is a lot bigger
@andyH_England3 ай бұрын
That is true, but that is AMD's fault. Apple has a better chip design, meaning the GPU cores can spool down and save battery energy via good optimisations. AMD has yet to find a way to do this fluidly other than for the consumer to switch the dGPU off manually. You would have thought by now that they would have worked out the design as flawed and had a viable solution. It is no longer an adequate excuse as we head into 2025.

That added Nvidia GPU is a battery killer, which isn't needed, since the AMD CPU comes with a Radeon M890 with 16 cores, so the extra Nvidia GPU is a waste of space and energy. You won't get eight or more hours of runtime on a single charge with this laptop; maybe three. Also, the Zenbook rightly uses the Radeon GPU and so it doesn't come with the extra power hungry Nvidia, and the Zenbook has a much nicer screen, but the Zenbook is max 28W so the CPU cannot run full throttle, and it doesn't come with 32 GB RAM. This ProArt has a 60Hz display. Asus could offer a ProArt with a nicer screen and without the Nvidia. But as it stands now, nothing in their lineup is great.

5:29 This looks like terrible game performance. Also it's a shame. Mpp pens always ruin these drawing laptops...i really don't understand companies that keep using it. Then they complain and say people just don't buy drawing laptops. Also mpp has been around for a long time now, and microsoft still hasn't fixed it..

In short, very nice laptop, but if you want to draw, buy something else. I guess iPads have effective monopoly and nobody is even close, bummer.

Oh. Of course it's not going to have good battery life. It has a discrete GPU on it.

It can be disabled in Eco mode, and the i-GPU is really powerful to be honest, so you could run almost every app with that and just use the GPU for Blender rendering and gaming (that's what I'm doing currently anyway)

There are good reasons why Windows Tablets are in a death spiral, although this is a fork of something like the Surface Pro. Even MS has given up by cancelling the Android subsystem on Windows. All rather predictable; trying to make a desktop OS tablet-friendly was dumb, and thankfully, Apple and Google went for dedicated mobile OS'es. This is why those asking for iPads' macOS live in cloud-cuckoo land. So, £2500 for the only SKU (currently) in the UK and with these not really pushing the M3 Pro and miles from the M3 Max, a Macbook and an iPad seem a logical alternative. However, the M4 will be a big leap for Apple Silicon, so best wait for that if you can--already in the iPad Pros, it is a two-generation jump ahead of AMD, Intel and Snapdragon. I am disappointed in the new AMD and the Snapdragon, and I should stop falling for the PR and marketing as they are all rather fake. But if you are unwilling or unable to use a Mac, sadly, these are your choices. Despite being the clear leader in efficiency and performance per watt, Apple has no chance of ever breaking the natural monopoly Windows holds; Stockholm Syndrome for PCs means even dominating silicon breaking that 8-10% market share is impossible.
