With all of the activity in both the GPU and CPU markets this year, it's hard to remember some of the launches in the first half of the year-including NVIDIA's GTX 1080 Ti. Maintaining the rank of fastest gaming GPU for the majority of the year, little has challenged NVIDIA's GP102-based offering, making it the defacto choice for high-end gamers.
Even though we've been giving a lot of attention to NVIDIA's new flagship TITAN V graphics card, the $3000 puts it out of the range of almost every gamer who doesn't have a day job involving deep learning.
Today, we're taking a look back to the (slightly) more reasonable GP102 and the one of the most premiere offerings to feature it, the ASUS ROG Strix GTX 1080 Ti.

I got this card a few days before Xmas. It’s a beast! I miss looking at my Asus ROG Matrix 780ti in my case as this card looks the same as the other Asus cards. But I really shouldn’t complain. I’m lucky to have this card.

I have mine with a kraken G12 and a H55... Running at 6004Mhz on the memory and 2050Mhz on the core. Excellent GPU for 4K, running PUBG on High settings at 60-80FPS.

I know that you have to make reviews, that there's not much being released right now, and people are still interested in/buying graphics cards, but the 1080Ti was released on the 10th of march 2017.

Damn, close to 900 dollars! I ordered this card on Amazon for $779.99 on December 25th but just ended up paying around $350 for it and a few other accessories. All you have to do is register on Amazon to get a discount of around 20% and invite rich old people to your wedding that cost around $30,000. Worth it!

You should give to someone else to make these reviews, someone who cares about games or overclocking. We can read the specs in Asus site , there is nothing unique or idk, they just feel off and obvious the person whos talking is not involved and just trowing the bare minimum of information as fast as possible just to check that out- yes we have a video review

I really dislike that there are HDMI on gpus,HDMI 2.0b is useless regarding G-sync with 100 -165hz. HDMI 2.1 is on the verge but I dont think HDMI makes it possible to use G-sync. Also when are Nvidia giving up the stupid VR Ready advertising and put 4x Displayports or 6x displayports. Also its kinda lazy to do a review of a pascal gpu in 2018. I want to be able to connect 4 DP monitors for G-sync with high refresh rate like 100-165hz to my gpu. I hope Volta will bring this.

You need HDMI to connect an Oculus Rift, it won't work with a DP to HDMI adapter (I've tried).

I use a Vive so an HDMI port is appreciated. Also people with more than two monitors is absolutely tiny. Plus your not driving 4 monitors at high refresh rates with a 1080ti I'm afraid. It can run 60FPS at 4K in most titles if you turn a few settings down so 4x 1080p screens is the same resolution. 1080Ti was only released in May and there is nothing newer on the market. Volta won't be released until at least May either which makes it pretty hard for them to review. Not sure what your hoping for with your lazy comment.

THE main reason is that AIO's fail eventually over time, typically it's the pump that dies. It's true for eihter a cpu or gpu AIO cooler.

So do regular gpu fans. Both last over the typical time one is relevant though.

Also consider that once an AIO fails on a hybrid, that the one that comes with it is designed to fit that gpu . If you wait until the aio fails, good luck with finding a replacement that will not only sit correctly on the GPU, but also be compatible and fit with the hybrid cooler As much as I agree that a hybrid is a better solution cooling wise, in the long run it's a better idea to use an air cooler. LinusTechTips, awhile back they showed a mod to use regular case fans, like the very popular and good noctua ones. they zip tied two of those fans to the air cooler of something like a 1080ti or titan(can't remember which right now) and as it turns out, those fans actually cooled the card even better than the fans that came with the card itself! See, with a mod like that to replace GPU fans, you don't have to worry about replacing thermal paste, or making sure that the contact plate has even amount of pressure(and the right amount) to hold the plate against the gpu without cracking the gpu. with an air cooler that has bad gpu fans, simply remove that part of the cooler, and then zip tie the case fans to the air cooler and not have to worry about too much pressure and such. oh well, i get what you are tryign to say, but if y ou plan on having a gpu for along period of time, either go with a good air cooled card, or when you buy a hybrid, also get a replacement cooler for it at the same time for backup.

GamersNexus for example, have shown that for most hybrid gpus, off the shelf aios usually work perfectly well, despite the minimally different shape difference from the cold plate that is sometimes there. Its really not any more difficult to replace. Yea 60 bucks for the aio vs maybe 40 for the fans saves you 20 bucks, but we're talking about a 1080ti here. 20 bucks difference is nothing, especially when its not even something youll likely have to deal with at all. The only reason id ever suggest getting air cooling on a 1080 ti is if you dont mind noise *and* plan on keeping your card in use long after its irrelevant. All the while youll also have to accept worse performance. Thats a very small group of people.

My next card will be an X80TI Hybrid Volta. I don't want fan noise with my next card. I have a 1080TI FE card now and it's amazing.. but the fan noise is not so amazing... and I like keeping my card cool, so it's running hard most of the time

FE was the only choice I had because I wanted a 1080TI early and thanks to shithouse miners, the AIB cards were insanely overpriced and sold out almost everywhere when I was building my PC. My card runs cool but I have fans running hard the whole time. Luckily I have a great soundsystem and headphones as well, so I have options to cancel out the noise. I also snagged one of the FE's off of Newegg for $699, no tax while every other card was going for $800+ at the height of the mining craze.... so I did the best I could at the time I was buying. I won't have the 1080TI 3 years. As soon as Volta Hybrid is out, it's mine. I may even go X80 Volta if it's better than my FE and not wait for the TI. As long as it's Hybrid, and better than what I have, I don't care.

Not usually. I've had the 1080TI since April 2017. The next Nvidia card that beats it will likely not be out for quite awhile. Especially the Hybrid version of that card. I usually keep a card about 2 years max. I like having top end stuff in my rig. I game at 4k/60fps on a 55" OLED or 1440p/165hz on an ASUS RoG IPS. I need as much horsepower as I can get to game at Ultra/High at those resolutions and framerates.
