The MSI machine has good thermal headroom, I wouldn't be surprised if you can tweak it in the advanced BIOS to do the best, but I just test stock as I figure that's how most people use it.

Your precise and exhaustive review helped me choose this laptop and I really don't regret it. Being well informed of its negative or less-than-perfect aspects helped me overcome the deceiption I'd have had should I haven't watched your review, and of course I was welll informed of its srengths and they really didn't deceive me. One issue I had at first and you don't expose is the 15" screen small size which leaves a lot of useless space on the bottom of the lid. Coming from a 15"6 Macbook pro I feel a little tight. Thankfuly, the resolution is absolutely beautiful on my QHD 240Hz model, but it's a little deceiving given the laptop size. Maybe I should have opt for a 17" model but I didn't feel transporting such a monster. I think the Scar line lacks a 16 or 15"6 screen option. Of course the lack of webcam is incromprehensible in 2022 meet/zoom/skype days, I have seen this in all reviews and it's very strange given the Scar is equipped with honnest microphones. Overclocking peoples should pass their way as this laptop have a 12900H locked CPU and its BIOS gives access to ... er, not a lot. Besides, I personnaly think overclocking a laptop is asking for heating problems. What I really appreciate and you describe in your review, and is quite unique on laptops, is the eazy access to profiles of performance and keyboard settings which you can set in a snap with Armoury Crate software, and it's even more pleasant as it has a dedicated key - which you can reassign if you feel it so. As much as this software is almost useless on my desktop ROG motherboard, it's really helpful on this laptop so I can switch between full power and battery saving as needed. You described this so well it also pushed me in choosing this computer. The NFC keystone might look like a gadget as described in your review, but I find it really a great thing in a public place - say at work. It's really useful as you can choose the lock screen action when you unplug it, so when you have to go away from your laptop you can keep it safe by simply keeping your keystone in your pocket. Also you can switch to a game full-power profile when pluging it and even launch a given game. It's really a very nice addition to a gaming laptop that can be used as a strong work machine. I find your performances tests very well done and exposed. They really show the power beast this laptop is. Thanks again for this well-done review!

17:20 I’m not 100% sure on this, but the issues with Pop!OS may either be due to a older Linux kernel incompatible with Intel 12th Gen or Nvidia RTX 3080 Ti. I’d expect Ubuntu 22.04 to fix this with a newer kernel, however, its beta is very unstable at the moment, even on AMD Ryzen 5000 systems…

Popos features kernel 5.15 rn iirc. ubuntu 22.04 will ship with that only. Anyways you would want kernel 5.16+ as it got major perf. gains for alder lake.

It’s a weird delay of some sort that even my 7 year old Dell XPS doesn’t have. Makes using the touchpad suck. This by far is my favorite laptop. If you got the money JUST BUY IT! Gamer or not this thing is perfect for everyday life. Searching for a gaming laptop was frustrating until I seen this bad boy online. I wanted an i9, great graphics, something over 144Hz, and decent speakers. This laptop provides all of that and some! For one I never had a gaming laptop with 4 speakers. The two at the bottom really act like mini subs the way it vibrates my table. The lighting customization OMG. Turning my keyboard into an audio spectrum blew my mind and its accurate! Gaming on the 3070Ti is everything I expected. GTA, HALO, Forza, Fortnite, all play well on Ultra settings. Cooling is not an issue for me at all and the fan noise is hardly noticeable even though a ton of air is passing through this thing. Good job Asus! This is my first Asus product and I'm beyond satisfied. Debating on if I want the flow z13 now. I'd get that over a surface pro any day!

I always appreciate your detailed reviews, Jerrod. I'm looking to buy an Asus laptop, but with the Scar 15 only having 66.3% Adobe RGB & 68.3% DCI, it was a dealbreaker. I'm also not a fan of the translucent area on top, though I would have overlooked it if the color accuracy had been better.

buy a g15/g17 then with QHD screen. It has 100% DCI-P3 and 100 SRGB + no translucent top, it has ryzen 6800H/6900HX inside and because of that it also runs cooler and has better battery life

I need some help in decision which laptop to pick, i cant decide for 2months now.. i am thinking between MSI GE76 Raider and Asus Rog scar 17, both on same specs ( 3080Ti ) and the 2 things are making me crazy: MSI doesnt have G-sync, will that be a problem?? I always had a G-sync monitor.. i dont want to be disappointed… Asus got lower TGP and the fan outlet is going on the hand with mouse, did you notice that as a problem? Some people have commented that with high FPS games and high refresh rate they don't really notice it. I think with G-Sync, it's one of those things that once you've experienced it you notice the difference more when you don't have it, like you get used to it.

Hey Jarrod, could you use Fedora workstation for Linux test (particularly for asus laptops) as the asus-linux project explicitly supports it? Much of the drivers needed have been merged upstream into the Fedora kernel so you wouldn't see issues like on Ubuntu

Top off your head, how much less performance would the 3070 Ti be compared to 3080 Ti? Idle temps are very important. Fans kick in at around 52C; you want your laptop to stay below when watching videos, surfing or basic stuff

Jarrod what is the adaptive sync range? The intel software will tell you. You really need the 1440P to take advantage of that 3080ti IMO.

Hi Jarrod, after checking 09:37 the battery life I may consider buying the AMD version rather than having the Intel version, a 2.5G Lan port & thunderbolt 4 port is less important than the battery life to me. So how would you comment the gaming performance between the intel version and AMD version on this Scar 15. Don't know whether the 14-cores CPU vs 8-cores CPU makes a big difference when running some 3A games such as Elden ring. Thanks a lot!

If you were a software developer (so typing frequently on this keyboard) with a secondary use of music production and an additional perk of some very light gaming would you get this? I am debating between this and a Mac. Mac has its advantages for music with drivers but also huge disadvantages in software updates and compatible VSTs so I'm not looking for a windows vs Mac comparison, just strictly if you have ever typed on a newer MacBook Pro vs this keyboard.

I have the 17" 3080ti and have not noticed any tearing with Optimus off. I was told by the sales person, idk if it's true or not, that since Optimus off means the refresh rate will stay at max, you won't notice tearing anyway at that high of a refresh rate. I don't care at all about webcams. You should add Sword and Fairy 7 to your game test. It can be pretty demanding and has rtx/DLSS etc.

You can pick up a legion 7 for 2200 dollars rn on newegg or maybe even lower in further sales while this scar 15 is 50% more expensive for 10-15% more performance. People say diminishing returns but there is also a limit to diminishing returns

And the Corsair iQue issue should be fixed soon and can currently be fixed by removing the service from Windows.

Just wondering how close you put the mic when measuring fan noise. It looks to be off to one side of the laptop, but without a ruler or something else to judge distance, I really can't come to any conclusion. Also, could you please measure fan noise from where the user would be sitting? Maybe even from four or five feet in front of the laptop? Speaking of MSI BIOS, keep in mind that its undervolting capability, this year, is possible just because you tested the GE76 w/ 12th gen HK version. Alderlake infact has locked any undervolting capability for non HK SKUs (Contrary to 11th gen and before). Since this Scar comes w/ a plain 12900H, it wouldn't have been able to undervolt it anyway, be via BIOS, Throttlestop or Intel XTU.

Yes I am aware that only K series processors support undervolting, it's why I never mention it in any of my videos, it basically doesn't exist anymore.

I am looking for HP envy oled laptop but I am really scared of it getting burn in before 5 years at least. Who owns this? I'm interested in the New Scar 16 coming later this year but i'm hyper paranoid about the all plastic keyboard deck. Does it get that shine from resting palms on it over time or does it stay looking like new even with heavy use? In my country it is very difficult to find a laptop with anything above a 3050 while not being inflated to the brink of popping IF said device even shows traces of it's existence. I recently found a Lenovo Legion 5 with a 3060, a 5600h and 512gb ssd for like $1600 USD on a seemingly national computer store site. But most recently I found the new Asus TUF Gaming F15 (2022) with a 140W 3060, a 12700h, 1Tb ssd and running 16gb of DDR5 for a bit less than $1500 USD in Walmart... Very tempted. Is a review of the F15 coming? or more importantly, should I go for the TUF F15 or the Lenovo Legion?

Hello again. The same person who asked for a 3d modeling benchmarks list in your videos. Some of the common apps r Auto CAD, solid works, Auto desk 3d max and MATLAB. The reason I'm asking it is that I think there r a lot of engineering students like me who cannot afford workstation laptops so then they'll lean towards gaming laptops. Either way much obliged to u for the effort and reading the comments. Definitely appreciated. These videos are great and really prove that the Legion series of devices are fantasitc "bang for buck" - that Legion 5 Pro 5800H/3070 still keeping up, as well as that new 5i Pro. Interested to see what new Ryzen brings to the table. I have a 5P 4800H/2060 and hoping to upgrade later this year.
