This worked like a charm! Thanks for the helpful vid. I recommend for others to avoid any complications, when you first take the keyboard off don't disconnect the wires and plastic connected to the bottom. Just shift the keyboard down so you can work with just the battery.

I recommend to anyone doing this to buy a a laptop opening/ repair kit prior. Having all the right tools made this really easy. They're cheap too... under $10. Video saved me from having to buy a new laptop.

I FULLY agree. I believe in Washinton state they passed a law or were trying to pass a law that bans these peaces of s...t from being sold here. Items like a battery should be easily removed by the consumer; otherwise they have to spend money at the shop or risk breaking components while opening the electronics. It's theft. I repaired desktop computers (rarely laptops) in the past and many times I repaired a laptop I broke or fried something, even after being very careful. The plug ins for those little cables that hook components to the motherboard are very sensitive and pins could bend easily when unplugging/plugging them back in. In my laptop, I just caught the lcd/cam cable almost on fire because a pin got bent and touched another one. I unhooked/hooked it back on very careful and still... Plug sparked and pin broke off. Same laptop model as above. I'm going to have to buy a new ;cd/cam cable cheap on ebay for around $12 and an lcd screen on Amazon for around $40.

Its because they want more people damaging their computers when trying to attempt simple fixes that SHOULD be easily done by every laptop owner versus having to take it in for professional repairs. More laptops damaged by average user means more laptop sales for them.

Here are some instructions, if you want to avoid breaking something when opening this peace of s.... laptop. Some mistakes I made and some suggestions below: 1. If you are going to use your raw hands, make sure you touch metal before opening the laptop. Do it every once in awhile to be safe or you might fry a component. If metal is connected to the ground better. Discharge all that static electricity. Avoid walking on carpet while doing this job. 2. If you are going to use a working credit card to open laptop, don't. I used my library card and now I don't know if I will be able to use it at the new Pay First machine connected to the printer at the library. My card is destroyed around the edges. Use an old card. 3. Make sure you take all the screws out. I left a sombeatch in. Was wondering why the plastic was so hard to pull apart at a point. 4. Don't do anything until you watch this video titled "Asus X540L Disassembly" if you don't want to break the 2 cables you immediately see after peeking inside the laptop before completely removing the top plate. These cables or buses have a lever you have to move to disconnect the cables properly from the motherboard. Then you can remove completely the top plate. Good luck.

Bonjour deja merci pour la vidéo qui est très bien expliquée !! Je me permet de vous exposer mon soucis afin d'avoir votre avis, si je dois changer ou non ma batterie ! Voilà mon problème. Depuis un moment mon ordinateur était capricieux au niveau de la batterie. C'est un Asus x540y. La batterie s'affichait à 80%, je retirais le chargeur et 15 min plus tard lordi s'éteignait tout seul completement. Je laisse toujours mon ordi branché au chargeur je pense que ça n'a pas du arranger la batterie. Jusqu'à la semaine dernière mon pc fonctionnait a peu près normalement mais hier, après une semaine sans l'utiliser, j'ai voulu m'en servir. L'ordinateur affiche l'écran de chargement où il est écrit "Asus, veuillez patienter" sur un fond noir. Ca charge comme ça pendant environs 3/4 min puis un flash blanc, et ecran noir MAIS pointeur de souris perceptible ! Et l'écran reste noir avec juste le pointeur. En plus de ça maintenant des que je debranche le chargeur lordi seteind instantanément même en étant sur l'écran noir. Je n'ai pas changé la batterie de mon ordi depuis son achat en juin 2018. Pensez vous que le soucis vient de la batterie ?? Car si c'est ca je n'ai qua racheter une batterie adaptée au model puis la changer. Si ce n'est pas ça quel peut être le.probleme ?? Sachant que je souhaite accéder de nouveau à mon poste de travail qui est désormais en ecran completement noir ! Je vous remercie d'avance !

Ноут супер. И игры он тянет. И играть можно. Но не новые. И кулер в нем есть. Так что стоит посмотреть разборку а потом вести обзор. И в не напаен проц и память. Но он меня устраивает. Меньше деталей. Это как планшет растянутый в корпусе ноута. И в Украине его цена 5999. Но видио смотреть и слушать музыку одно удовольствие. И игры он тянет. Надо только подбирать. хард ресет игру он тянет.

I will never, ever again buy an asus laptop. Bought this X540 on an hurry, I needed right away and it was cheap - but, boy, this cheap model it's really cheap: cheap performance, cheap battery life, cheap keyboard, what a piece of junk this asus is :-( And when I came home to find out that this is not even a "real" battery, are some cells connected one to each other, this makes the laptop even worst. I found out, to my expenses, that if I move the laptop around while on battery it shuts down because sometimes these cells loose contact with each other. Please, an advice to anyone trying to buy this piece of crap, just don't: you'd be better dropping your money through the window :-/

I have had the same issue, I use my laptop to work on cars and need it on battery most of the time. When driving the car I would lose most datalogs because of it shutting down. Took me til now to discover its because of this POS "battery"
