Asus Zenfone V Review

Selling for $384, Asus looks to be taking a crack at the “affordable flagship” division with the Zenfone V, albeit a contender better suited for 2016, and thusly forfeiting such a distinction in 2017. Still, many 2016 phones can hang just fine with this year's newest breed. So, can the V hang too?

My dad just got this today for me because I was having trouble with my old iphone that I have had for about 4 years. For some reason the numbers would not work when I tried to punch in a number for a script refill, after 2 numbers the screen would go blank and I couldn't finish it using the keypad. I had to actually talk to someone there to get the refill in.

I have an ASUS A009. IT SUCKS!!! I got the ASUS A009 in 2018 when i was 14, almost 15 years old. It was my first phone, so i got it for free at Verizon. I *LOVED* it because it was my first phone and i didn't have any issues with it. In September of 2018, i put my phone on the charger to charge. When i come back, i turn on my phone to check the battery percentage and it freaking freezes!!! The screen was on showing my lockscreen, but wouldn't move or anything! My oldest brother finally figured out how to reset it after he looked it up on his phone, but in the start of 2019, my phone freezes again, and this time my grandma and i reset it. In June of 2019, i was at my aunts house. I was deleting photos from my phone because it said i was running out of storage and normally, deleting photos helped, (even though most of them were on my SD card) so that's what i did. Suddenly, my phone crashes as i was deleting the photos. It wasn't a problem. When i tried to access my photos, it would crash and tell me i cant access them. After that, i finally could access my photos by some miracle, but it didn't matter what apps i deleted nor how many photos i deleted, it wouldn't clear my storage!!! We finally we to Verizon only to find out my phone glitched out when it was supposed to do an update and i guess my phone thought it did it, but it didnt actually so it ruined the phone totally. But before we knew this, the guy told us to reset the phone, so we did. It was fine, but it wouldn't download Instagram, and since the system already glitched out, i dont think it would've updated anyways, making it even worse in the future if i kept it. We bring it back and ASUS sends me a new phone. It was good for like...2 days. It started becoming slow, glitching, and even has shut down on me randomly and turned back on automatically and act like nothing happened for like two seconds. Sometimes my phone will glitch when I'm typing, and the keyboard won't go away when i press home and clear the app unless i go on google or turn the phone off (not the power because it wouldn't show up with the keyboard idk why. Maybe it's different for other people.) After i take a photo on my phone, i can't see the picture until i either have cellular data and maybe even WiFi. (My phone never works on WiFi. I dunno if it's because im so impatient because my phone is so slow with it, or my phone in general doesn't work with WiFi anymore.) We also had a house fire recently and we were trying to figure out where certain lightings were and how the ceiling fans were in our house. (We had a tall ceiling and the guy wanted to know how far the fans were from the floor.) I told my grandma the night before i probably have some photos that might help. (She didn't have any because her phone reset. She has a Samsung galaxy something i think and she's had it for 5 years. It only now started giving her a little trouble.) The time came when the guy asked us how tall the fans were and my grandma asked for the pictures. I go on my gallery only to find pictures that weren't loading that have been backed up in my phone since i first got a phone. It was so frustrating. I didnt have data so i turned the power off and then on on my phone and got a bar, but it wasn't enough. I moved one inch and i lost my data. I can understand why since our house was in a rural area kinda, but the data on my phone sucks. My family can have full bars and I'm left with zero until i turn my phone power off and then on again. To wrap this up, find a better phone, even if it isn't free. Get yourself a Samsung or an older iphone online if you dont want to pay a unnecessary amount of money. But at least paying for it for 12 to 24 months, depending on what you get, would be soo worth it. I'm sure ASUS has phones that a lot of people love. I'm not trashing ASUS let alone Verizon. But ASUS *DID NOT* impress me with this phone and Verizon gave me a free phone that obviously shouldn't have even been sold, let alone given to a teenager or anyone else for free.

Thank you for the review. I am an old man, so my hearing is not that great. How is the speaker, will I be able to hear people talking clearly?? Also, says LTE only, not sure what that means?? Sometimes I only get 3g and not 4g, does that mean this phone won't work if it can't connect to the 4g (if that what only LTE means). thanks in advance for your answers, before I purchase this phone.

The rear camera in the native video recorder, Snapchat, and Discord is *WAY TOO DARK!* How have they not fixed this yet? I'm pretty disappointed with this alone, to say the least. Also sometimes Snapchat text chat will "jump" after maybe 15-45 seconds of being opened, so if I'm in the middle of typing out a longer message in that time frame, the snapchat app goes white (except the banner at the top) and erases my progress. I have to hit the back button and start from the camera screen, go back to the chat (with lots of lag inbetween, I might add; this is mostly the Snapchat devs' fault though, they apparently dislike the Android platform I guess?), and type out the whole thing again. KZbin videos also spontaneously pause and upon playing again, the video is black for 3-5 seconds. Other than these issues, the phone is actually fantastic. The issues I mention above really sour the experience though, as I have a bunch of close friends I actively Snapchat and text chat with.

Had mine for quite a while now. Compared to flagship phones, it certainly lacks particular amenities (camera/audio quality). Sometimes it'll struggle performing heavy tasks.. BUT has been a reliable phone & still holds a solid charge after about 1 year & half of owning it. Enthusiasts will want more, but as a minimalist, I really like my ZFV.

I have this phone. Quick review: Pros: Looks great, snappy/ super quick performance, 4GB RAM, only $240. Cons: Camera sucks, charger cable is short af (maybe 3 feet), bad screen resolution, speaker sucks It's a great value for the money, especially in terms of the hardware inside. It's very fast, even using demanding apps like Snapchat it's seemless and fast as can be. There are many little annoying things about it, like the cons I listed above. I can't believe how short the charger is! Tf. I'd still recommend it, because it can deliver where it counts, just has many small issues that you'll notice if you previously owned a top-tier phone.

I don't have the Asus Zenfone V (I'm looking at buying one); however, on Android phones screenshots are usually done the way Amanda said, Power and Volume Down pressed simultaneously. The exception to this rule, in my experience, are Samsungs with the clicky home button; you have to press Power and Home simultaneously to get a screenshot. As the Asus Zenfone V has an old-school Samsung style home button perhaps it works the same way?

I Have a Asus Zenfone V and the Batery is so good, Pictures are good too, the only problem is that you have to configure the cam manually. The only negative things is the Display, it is a Bad Amoled, if you are a people that always have your phone in used, I don't recommend Asus Zenfone V. I can Play Fornite without problem, Call Of Duty Mobile, Pubg, etc Without Lag. It does't hot to much. It is a big phone and its price is soooo gooood. Sorry 4 my English

Asus makes some good phones, they are a good budget option but yeah not quite the best flagships out there though. But they got some neat trick up thier sleeve to make their phones stand out. They got lots of users in asia though. i make tech videos in my channel, please check it out if you have some time to spare. i would really appreciate it.

The look, size, and feel of the phone is great when I first bought it on Verizon. Sadly I returned this piece of shit phone because of connectivity issues between network, calling and texting. Asus support, nor Verizon support wouldn’t help much in resolving this phone. In summary, don’t get this phone.

Its actually pretty good for gaming. It runs smooth and fast. The only problem is the battery life. Its inconsistent. Sometimes a percent lasts a minute or sometimes one percent lasts 5-10 minutes. It also runs on highest version of android. Overall I would recommend this phone to someone who may not be able to get a "brand name" phone so to speak. Big bang for buck.

I wish more phone manufacturers would "be inspired" by the Samsung J. Bezels to make handling the phone easier, no notches or hole punches, a 16:9 screen that perfectly matches the 16:9 aspect ratio of 99% of KZbin, a flat screen with no silly curves that constantly trigger ghost touches, nav buttons below the screen where they belong, no stupid gestures... The perfect phone in my opinion would be a J7 with a full HD AMOLED screen, a flagship grade processor, a fairly high end Sony camera, a front mounted fingerprint sensor, and, well, that's why I'm researching Asus Zenfone Vs right now. Haha.
