This one, AS6702T is coming to me today 9-2-2023, I'm upgrading from an AS1102T, which has been okay, but it's too weak for my needs. Thank you for the videos, I always enjoy them.

It’s great to see advancements in the NAS market with improved LAN speeds, fast cpu, NVME storage options etc making these useful for home servers or media server eg. Plex.
@mikesunboxing2 жыл бұрын
yes this is now really more powerful than a lot of pc's i have owned over the years, and still beats modern mini pc's like the beelink etc

You know me, I loves me NAS devices. I have an Asustor one already for me work stuff and I honestly cannot fault it, its that sweet spot between price and performance and the Asustor ones hit that spot nicely. Stick a few ironwolf drives in this bad boy and you're laughing :-)

yeah top specs at mid range prices, and a decent warranty, lots to like here

Thanks for the review, to the point and not too long. Definitely do the how-to setup video, as I think I have decided to go for this NAS after months of looking at reviews.

Hi, Mike. Another fine video, as always. Looks like a good product too. But I have no idea what I'd ever do with it.
@mikesunboxing2 жыл бұрын
my main two things are backups of all the PCs in the house, and a backup of all the videos and footage we create, in case we ever need to edit or reupload a video
@OlettaLiano2 жыл бұрын
@@mikesunboxing That's understandable. I'm sure you need a ton of video storage and such. I have no such needs. Everything on my PC totals up to less than 1/3 of a 1TB M.2 drive. The only thing I need to backup is my writing and Word Docs don't require much space.

I have the 4 bay version of this ...loaded with 2x 16 TB + 2 ssd 1 TB as cache...I also added 16 gig Ddr4. This Nas rocks - I tested the dual 2.5bge but can only max out 300 mbs ⚡ using asustor 2.5gb switch
@mikesunboxing2 жыл бұрын
there should be an option for enabling multi channel SMB in there to get a bit more out of it

Does the front transfer create a folder per transfer, otherwise how would it handle duplicate filenames
@mikesunboxing2 жыл бұрын
it can be configured in various ways, but yes the data is usually date stamped or in a folder with a date stamp

Have they implemented a virtual ADM yet? Similar to synology's virtual DSM

i know nothing about these but maybe i should, do they help secure the network from external threats too or just for servers and storage ?
@mikesunboxing2 жыл бұрын
to some extent they can, you can remove external access and they also take data snapshots so if a system gets hacked you can easily restore it from a backup version

Apologies b4hand but i am confused! Not hard lol Nvme gen 3 trf speeds go up to say 3000mbs so why use if unit only reaches 500mbs? Plus 2.5g lan lines! Lastly how wid u use this as a media pc, wud u need lan cable connection? Again apologies brain tired and looking forward to watching part 2/3 videos. Thanks Mike and Kath👍
@mikesunboxing2 жыл бұрын
the internal data rate isn't really as important as the speed of accessing the data, NVME drives access data quicker and makes the whole system more responsive, so when you access from a PC you don't have the wait time for the old spinning disks to spin up and find the data. If using as a media PC a wired connection would be better but there are ways to add wifi, but really LAN is the way to go for high bitrate files unless you have really decent fast wifi

Awesome review and impressed with this NAS and the Specs. I am running pFsense with VPN / Certs for connectivity into my network and utilizing HTTPS. Of course, when I purchase this NAS, I will be turned all external access off, any ssh,sftp disabled. Will also have offsite backups and cloud in case of any deadbolt virus. What ever suggestions do you have for security?
@mikesunboxing2 жыл бұрын
for security i just do the most amount of physical backups i can and also some online ones also, it is all about maximising the locations

Hello. Is there a way to find out, how much SSD caching space I should buy to cover 4 TB disks? I was not able to find a table for that. All I found was the table for memory usage. Thanks. Whats is the minimum ssd cache I should buy for 3, 4, or 8 TB stoargen.
@mikesunboxing2 жыл бұрын
i would try a 240GB drive to start with, they are very cheap and unless you have some really heavy file transfers the cache won't fill up a great deal
@cblte2 жыл бұрын
@@mikesunboxing Thank you. I was thinking about 16 GB RAM, 4 TB HDD WD Red Plus, 2x 500 GB SSD Cache for Read Write capability and 2x 1 TB SSD as User's Home drive and storage for some docker containers, all backed up to HDD and off-site. Where of the rest of the HDD (3 TB) will be used for long-term data storage and photos and movies etc.

I currently run an older Synology NAS with a website. Unfortunately it is somewhat slow and I want to speed things up. Would that NAS be a reasonably good choice to install WordPress and transfer my site to it? Possibly running on the SSDs?
@mikesunboxing Жыл бұрын
this is probably one of the best value / performance nas there is on the market. maybe even the older version. you can go on to the ASUSTOR site and run a virtual NAS and see the apps and interface and see if you like the look and feel
@alex-zh5yv2 жыл бұрын
Do you need a specific type of switch for the link aggregation to work or is it handled on the NAS?

My 2bay Asustor got the Deadbolt ransomeware and now I’m looking to buy a 4 or 6bay NAS and I thought I would never use Asustor again and started looking at the Synology DS1621+ . But the Lockerstore gen 2 seems so awesome. What do you think about the two brands when it come so security? Just realized it got nothing to do about the video of this haha but please share inputs if u have any. Thanks for the video!

My personal thoughts are to not use any nas with public open ports if possible that is the biggest problem. Turn off any external access. It is nice to have these features but they are all inherently insecure
