I dig all the science and technical breakdown stuff. Keep it up!!! I generally gravitate towards symmetrical.

Thanks for putting this together Nick! When you're learning to bowl, you'll find very quickly that people aren't that great at explaining sym vs asym, and they're even worse at explaining why one does something vs the other. It was very helpful to hear your explanations for why each ball did what it did in the context of each shot. This is no small subject that bowlers will figure out in a single session. Videos like this go a long way towards helping them learn. Well done!

This is a great video. Really appreciate how well you can articulate all of the technical aspects of what we are seeing play out on the lane.

Tremendously helpful, Nick! These are the kinds of educational videos people can use tomorrow in their league. From what I've seen so far, the double flip block on the Mindset makes it a very versatile big asym with a big Intermediate diff. It reminds me of the Snap Lock, but with a stronger cover. Mindset is a very fine piece! For that matter, so is the Bruiser.

normally use syms on "longer patterns" and house shots. Then asym on short flat ones. 16.5 mph 470 revs at 80% power so I hook alot generally. Fav asym: the one encore. Fav sym: track stealth. Excellent video

This video shows the difference in the core strength. Shorter hook window for the asymmetricle ball.

Great demo Nick. However, I think one thing missing is that one thing you need to have when playing deeper with an asym is a good amount of axis rotation which you seem to have. For me, asyms have always been better when playing more up the boards on heavier volumes as they can tend to roll more forward on the backend. With symmetrics, they tend to be more forgiving and I dont need to manipulate the ball roll as much. I do understand that what works for one may not work for another. But that is what I tend to see personally.

I just started bowling again after 50 years. When I last bowled, 90% of balls were basic black balls....pretty similar. Holy smokes....look at the choices now and how to figure out what to get!

Every monday i bowl on 5 pairs and with the symetrical i get a better read on both end pairs. Lower end right hooks less than left and higher end right hooks more than left,these 2 pairs are the only ones ive studied over the past few months. Also we switch teams week to week,last week i shot big on these end pairs and this week just over 210 each game. So it comes down to roster week to week.

I've been bowling for 50 years and currently have a 190 average across 2 leagues (although I took 20 years off due to an injury, and just got back into it last year). I feel like I've been frozen in time and thawed like Captain America. The technicalities of the equipment these days is mind-boggling, and while I know this is a well-produced informative video, this is way over my head and I just don't get it at all. I have an asymmetrical first generation Black Widow ball and a symmetrical Radical Crypto ball. The crypto hooks more then the Widow, and when the condition really starts changing by the third game, I can't figure it out and my average drops significantly where my third game average is almost 10 pins less than my second game average. I've tried having a surface on both balls and polishing both balls, I move left and further left (Im a righty) and I have no idea how in the hell to figure out what the problem is. I just know both of these balls hook too much when the lanes seem to be drying out or oil is moving or whatever. Feel like I need a different 3rd game ball. Suggestions? I basically throw the same shot as Nick.

Maybe something lower flaring. Sounds like you prefer to play straighter. Take a look at something like Tundra Fire from Track

@@brunsnickand yeah, I've become a down and in player because both of my leagues are in the same house, and this is my best shot at this place. But I used to like to stand really far left and play a bigger Hook when I had a significant rev rate which I can't do anymore because of my wrist
@BassRacerx
@BassRacerx Жыл бұрын
you were talking on the podcast that rev rate/ball speed would be a factor. If you have slower ball speed or less rev rate an Asym could help you hook the ball
@brunsnick
@brunsnick Жыл бұрын
Yes, and I’ll talk about it more in 2 more videos this week. Asyms will help people who have a lower rev rate or are speed dominant get the ball to tip harder and change direction.

@@brunsnick i just have keep looking back and forth quickly in the side by side view, that i end up replaying it multiple times and still miss things like the difference where it hits the break point, how the angle of entry looks like, ball going through the pins, etc. That's fine. Thanks though! Look forward to more videos!

I think you need to start doing these videos on a flatter shot, the house shot just does too much of the work and all the balls blur together.

I dont know man. I didnt see any difference between tge 2 at all. The very last shot showed a hair of difference but for this day either woukd have been just fine to use. I would expect an assymetrical to have an even sharper curve on the backend than what I saw here.

I had no idea what the heck you were talking about. You didn't explain what some of the terms you talked about Meant??? What is the difference between the two types of balls? I have a many questions. Is it something to do with the manufacturer? You needed to explain some of the terms you talked about and what they mean! I realize you might be on a time crunch, but more explanation is, in my opinion really needed!

Here are the SPECTO data points used and definition of each term: Total Hook - Total number of boards the ball crosses on the way to the pins. Hook Power - Number of boards the ball hooked based on the True Breakpoint. Entry Angle - The angle of the ball between 51 and 55 feet. Impact Angle - The angle of the ball between 57 and 59.5 feet. Pin Deck Exit - Ball position at the end of the pin deck. Here are the terms and definitions in the description for you.
