the actual story this movie is based on took place just south of me. I remember it well. My Dad was called for jury duty on this case. He wasn't picked, but still....crazy. Read "Jailing the Johnston gang".

Years after the movie came out we moved to PA. Norman escaped from prison & was on the run. All over the news. Eventually caught right back in Oxford, his hometown. Anyway I'm watching show on PCN & the author of a book about the case was on. Very interesting. Just recently I was on a site for haunted PA roads & Cossart Rd. was mentioned. Someone in the comments said that's the whereabouts of the Kiddie Gangs graves. Spooky, one has yet to be found.
@ppiorkowski15023 ай бұрын
@samanthab1923 the person you're referring to was James Sampson he was the older brother of Wayne Sampson (one of the three kids killed). In reality Wayne Sampson was killed by Ricky Mitchell the one who was an epileptic. He was also a raging alcoholic. The brothers had him kill one of the kids so they would all get their hands dirty. So right before he killed him Bruce Sr had inadvertently shined the flashlight in Ricky's face causing him to miss Wayne Sampson. Wayne then asked "Is that a real gun" and then Mitchell immediately shot him in the face. A couple of days later James went looking for his brother. He confronted the Johnston brothers about the whereabouts of his brother. He also threatened to go to the police if his brother doesn't turn up soon. They assured James that the three kids were ok and hiding out in California. They then lured James to a garbage dump. They said it was to case out a job but it was really so they could kill James. They through his body in a landfill and it was never recovered. I'm good friends with his son James Sampson Jr.

The way Tommy sobs "Dad," right before Brad Sr. shoots him always makes me tear up. So sad that this is something that actually happened years ago.
@ppiorkowski15022 жыл бұрын
@caitlinjane92 yes and this really happened. Bruce Sr killed his Son James and actually joked about it the next day at breakfast. He shot him once in the jaw and watched him suffer briefly and then in the head. They said he was still breathing when they tossed in the grave and that is what they were joking about. It was later confirmed that James was still breathing when the did the autopsy and found dirt and gravel in his lungs. Unfortunately the true story was much darker than the film.

Walken is so evil in this. There's something a little bit more hard hitting about the evilness of this particular character because of the father angle. It's like Cronus eating his children.
@ppiorkowski15023 жыл бұрын
The sad part about it is the real story behind this is far more dark than the movie lets on. Even the way THIS Right here went down was far more violent and disturbing. Jimmy Johnston (aka Tommy Whitewood) was actually killed first by his father Bruce Johnston Sr (aka Brad Whitewood). It was said by someone who was there that Sr shined a flashlight in Jimmy's face and first shot him in the jaw. Kinda gave him a brief stare and then shot him in the head. The next day he joked with his brothers of how Jimmy was still breathing when he was thrown in his grave. Jimmy was raised by his Aunt Sarah Martin. She raised him from the time he was only two weeks old. He even called her Mom. She loved him dearly and when he first went missing the word around town was Bruce Sr had all the kids hiding out in California until the heat died down. Sarah had approached Bruce Sr and asked him to make sure Jimmy was eating enough. Sr said in an angry tone where he is he doesn't need to eat. A few weeks later they seen each other again at a bar/restaurant but this time no words were exchanged. Instead Sr gave her a cold smile went to the jukebox put money in and gave her another smile as he left and the song Only the Good Die Young started playing from the jukebox.

@@ppiorkowski1502 Wow. That's disturbingly fascinating. Thanks for the background info. Saw this film two years ago for the first time and was surprised I had never heard anyone talking about it before. It's definitely a gripping story. The performances are top notch and it's got that 80s grittiness that we all love.

Walken was involved in that lady mysteriously drowing years back
@sopranosfan113 жыл бұрын
@@juspete5527 I understand that Walken was on a boat with Natalie Wood and Robert Wagner during the night when Wood drowned. I don't think Walken has really seriously been considered a suspect. If anything people are more suspicious of Robert Wagner who allegedly was arguing with Natalie Wood on the night she drowned. Some think Wagner possibly may have been jealous of Natalie Wood flirting with Christopher Walken. Beyond that I don't know much. While Walken is an excellent actor especially with playing creepy/violent characters, he doesn't strike me as a violent or hostile person in real life and I don't think he had anything to do with her death. You can watch Walken addressing her death in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hGHJnmdogqyAfcU Here's an interesting CBS program talking about Wagner being considered a suspect and one of the witnesses; Captain of the boat Dennis Davern talking about Wagner and Wood having loud fights before her death. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jYCalYCgYpuJd5Y Again, here's the captain of the boat Dennis Davern talking with Nancy Grace clearly pointing the finger at Robert Wagner and going into further detail. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g4isooCZe7mnhKs Yeah, this was definitely an incredibly shady, mysterious situation.

@ppiorkowski15023 ай бұрын
@Kristaleena818 the true story was unfortunately a lot darker. I know Bruce Johnston Jr (the man that Sean Penn's character is based on). Although he doesn't like to talk about these events I'm friends with a lot of people who lived by these guys and were around when all of this popped off. Bruce Sr actually did kill his younger son James. He shot him once in the jaw and once in the head which tore through his brain. It was said that James was still breathing when he was tossed in the grave. Bruce Sr and his brothers joked and laughed about this fact at the breakfast table. They were very cold and evil people. Much more than the movie showed.
