Although sadly no longer with us , Derek Fowlds remains a national treasure . The best tributes are paid to people during their lifetime , and that is surely the greatest single achievement of this documentary .

You must watch this - a wonderful man and respected actor. When he talks about his mother bringing him his letter (his acceptance for RADA), it’s so moving as he pauses and is obviously remembering his mum - and tells us of the memory. He later tells us of the wishes his mum asked him for - his name up in lights (tick), his picture on the radio times (tick) and to be a subject of This Is Your Life (tick). Yes, was guilty of thinking he’d only starred in three things on TV, but as he tells us, there was much more work behind his career . I was actually in tears as he talked about his mum, who he obviously loved very much. I’m now looking up his biography. He must have some wonderful tales to tell and judging by the interview, all positive and happy and times with wonderful people.

This is such a lovely little documentary about this lovely man and his career. It should have had more views because the series was great. I've been watching the repeats of series 1 recently and I appeared as an extra in heartbeats quite a few times. Love little documentaries. Thank you!

To say he aged badly is an understatement. Poor guy.

Nothing poor about Derek or how he aged. We all get old and his health wasn’t good for several years. He was a lovely man, which is all that matters and to call your comment crass is an understatement.
