He certainly was Mark. A terrific actor and so down to earth, not affected by his fame. Sadly missed.

What a complete and utter gentleman. I just turned 40 and I've seen so much change for the worse in my lifetime. Everyone expects something yet he's just so humble and grateful for everything that's happened. Appreciates others and their talents whereas most are now focused on themselves. Thank you Derek. Rest well knowing you lived an extraordinary life and with dignity. Not many can say that these days I don't think.

Very nice words, I could not put it better. I discovered Derek Fowlds in Australia watching "YES, MINISTER" and later on I saw him on "YES, PRIME MINISTER" and "HEARTBEAT". From my limited experience in Australia where I watched a lot of British TV series and films thanks to ABC, I would say that the 1970s and 1980s were the Golden Age of British television; it carried on a bit in the 1990s (MORSE, AS TIME GOES BY and LEWIS) but it was ruined by "political correctness" and "diversity" 🤮🤮🤮

But, they live on, on Talking Pictures TV! I'm so grateful for that channel. Many of the things I watch, I wasn't even born then - it's fun to say things like "my mum was 7 years old when this came out", or, at times I can say "I was just an infant or small child back then". Noel Cronin BEM & his daughter, Sarah, along with their wonderful TPTV team, are truly serving a community of people, those of us that are bored rigid by, the at times so crass & vulgar, banality on TV these days.

Thank you SO much for posting this brilliant & heart-warming documentary. Mr Fowlds recounting his Mum opening the letter from RADA about his scholarship made me cry! I can now watch this whenever I wish - I'm watching it on Talking Pictures TV right now :0)

A brilliant actor and a genuinely lovely man. Of the three guys in Yes, Minister, he was the best in my humble opinion. As well as that, he was superb as the gruff Oscar Blaketon in Heartbeat. We hope he's found peace ✌ wherever he's hiding. Thanks for the memories Derek ❤ 😊

What a lovely man. I remember watching him on the TV from 'Heartbeat' as the grumpy policeman/ pub landlord Oscar Blaketon. I never knew that he worked with Basil (I'm a big fan of the fox on the box 😅). I also didn't know that he knew and was in the same class with John Thaw (Inspector Morse) in RADA.
