At least 27 migrants crossing from French to Britain died when their boat sank, in what France's interior minister called the biggest tragedy involving migrants in the English Channel.

The benefits in France are better than the UK, they are not looking for benefits. They have a distorted view of what life in the UK is like and they think England is a better place for their kids. That being said they have no business sneaking in to the UK and no one should be helping them get across. They are not respecting the rule of law and should be treated as criminals on arrival.

We have been dealing with the same thing in Canada for years, they get to the US and go to the Canadian border in eastern Canada and walk across, no questions asked. Gotta wonder when it will all end.

That is not actually international law there are specific treaties that state that but that is between individual countries but it not a global standard. It is not actually part of the EU they have much more complex distributions of refugees that claim asylum and it is certainly not an treaty between France or the EU and the UK since Brexit.

sorry....hard to feel sympathy when they are welfare shopping, they were in a safe country, if they are truly refugees and needed help they should have stayed where they are in france. Its tragic they died and it should not have happened but this is on the bleeding hearts allowing these actions and the people themselves taking advantage of people's good will and desire to help.

Most people know English or have family there and its easier to start a life of in a country where you know. I agree to an extent that they could've stayed. The extra 2 hours would be worth it to some people. Considering the "benefits" especially around religion and lifestyle Also I doubt they are "taking advantage" jsut weighting the benefits. The problem is that there are equally determined people in those countries inflicting pain and misery on others. With a family, the best course of action is to leave. There a time not that long ago, where a simple potato famine led to mass migration from Europe to North America. No one was turned away.

When they are landed at Dover they are put on buses and taken to hotel accommodation. I’d direct the bus through the channel tunnel and offload them at Coquelles terminus. Back in France in a couple of hours.
