Four pods of whales, totaling about 160 pilot whales, washed up on the beaches of Western Australia. More than 100 volunteers hit the sand to help the marine mammals find their way back home. Scientists say they don't understand exactly why whales become stranded on beaches. Some researchers believe humans may have a hand in why some whale pods swim on shore. According to the department of Parks and Wildlife Service Western Australia, at least 28 pilot whales died in this stranding.

Their migratory system, in their DNA, is an intuitive GPS. However, as the planet has moved off its magnetic aksis, so rapidly in the past 100 years, at least 4'' a year, their 'GPS' signal is now incorrect. This is why they beach themselves again, so often after being rescued.

To make sure they stayed upright. Whales breath air just like us, so if their hole is blocked under the water because they're flipped, they can't breath. By pulling the whale higher on shore they can prevent it from rolling over until they can turn the animal around and attempt to bring it back into the water once it's calmer.
