Madame Taglione was an actual ballerina from the early 19th century when the age of reason gave way to the age of romance. La Papillon means “the butterfly” and Farfalla means “butterfly." La Papillon was an actual play and Emma Livry was an actual Farfalla. She however was the first Farfalla. The real play obviously doesn't mention so much violence, but it does mention Farfalla being attracted to the glow of a torch and burning her wings off. Marie Taglione was one of the coreographers of the original play which was named "Le Papillon" instead of "La Papillon."
@Jourell13 жыл бұрын
Another note I found is that the historical Emma died from complications after being set on fire. It wasn't on Le Papillon, however. Apparently when she made her entrance during a rehearsal of another ballet, La muette de Portici, her skirts caught on one of the gaslights and she was extensively burned. After suffering for months, her burns turned septic causing her death at 20. Tragically it was avoidable- fire retardant treatments for fabric were available but many performers didn't use them as they discoloured the costumes. Even after her accident, Emma remained opposed to them. This definitely makes me think that the writer is familiar with the history.

@@robertabray-enhus3198 yes my older sister was a professional ballerina. She danced with Stuttgart Ballet as one of the only companies that accepted dancers over 6 foot tall at the time (1990s). Surprisingly her feet are no worse than mine, though it's been years since she danced to that extent. She's now becoming an an examiner for RAD, so hopefully will be taking out some of the toxicity in the industry. She's the loveliest person and I'm proud of her as she definitely makes a difference in the ideas of what is acceptable in the ballet world. Being told she'd never make it because she was too tall was a big thing for her, and she made it as one of the highest accredited Australian ballerinas.
@julyol1192 жыл бұрын
@Schöner Albtraum I do get that in a "that's something other people might feel" kind of concept. But I can't fathom how you'd want to torture your body for a career that will end when you're in your twenties with a thin chance to become famous in a super specialised circle. All that only to look at and be jealous of younger people, always asking yourself, what you could have done differently and comparing yourself to those younger people. I know a woman who is a former national level gymnast in her 60s and she has so many health problems, even though she is absolutely extremely fit. And another girl I know, who was also in competitive gymnastics, was given growth suppressing stuff, so she could keep competing on a high level. Even after childbirth her body still doesn't fully look like that of an adult woman. It just doesn't seem worth it. To me it looks like more of an obsession then healthy passion or mental strength and determination. Being able to say "no" to unreasonable things is also a strength.

This one didn’t have as much impact as some of the other Habitsville stories, likely because worse evil is committed in the real world. Stories like Borrasca and The Puppetmnaster’s Regime tackle these all too human atrocities better by diving deep into the character and symbolism of the events, while this story’s main failing was in being far too surface-level and straightforward in its conceits to have impact when we in reality have to deal with much worse.

An ad is done by KZbin which interrupts the creators upload to sell a product through KZbin and a sponsorship is a payment to the creator, not specifically to KZbin.
