At the instant shown, the car at A is traveling at 10 m/s around the curve while increasing its speed at 5 m/s^2. The car at B is traveling at 18.5 m/s along the straightaway and increasing its speed at 2 m/s^2. Determine the relative velocity and relative acceleration of A with respect to B at this instant.

Hello. For some reason the direction angle of the relative velocity with respect to B came back incorrect. I'm referring to your number of 31.7. I had different numbers, and did the same process. And the process seems correct to me, so I'm not quite sure what's going on. Any idea?

Hi, so only your angle came back incorrect? What was your v_{a/b} in Cartesian form? Or maybe you can show your steps? It's hard to tell without seeing the process, sorry.

@@QuestionSolutions It's okay. I think your method is correct because my angle for the acceleration came back as correct. It's possible I ran into a number crunching error. No time to chase negatives tonight though, I have a dynamics test on Wednesday!! I'm just going to move onto other problems. Thank you for your fast, thorough and concise response though! You respond faster than my professor lol

@@QuestionSolutions Im facing the same issue. Car B has a speed of 21.5 and all other factors are the same. Im getting arctan(-7.07/14.43) and my angle as 26. i think the homework is just wrong at this point.

At 1:02, (a_A)_t = -5, so it just turns from positive 5 to negative 5. The rest of the steps also follow this negative sign change for (a_A)_t
