I've been contemplating splitting budget and luxury hotel reviews/ratings into distinct categories, with differing prisms on criteria, expectations, and experiences. The only issue is the huge deviations among luxury hotels, such as a $400/night vs a $1,000/night property. And then what about the mid-tiers, and price swings (seasonal/discount/deal scenarios. 🤷🏻‍♂️

It's especially hard in cosmopolitan cities where rates fluctuate all over the place, as well as in popular international tourism hubs depending on time of year. You know in professional sports how, based off of each respective player's median regular season and/or playoff scoring record, they'll net either a + or - rating for the game based off of how their performance that game measures up to their median performance over their broader season trajectory (I forget what they term that exactly)? I know that's quite a random comparison............but what if you considered your own sort of + or - in terms of how your feeling checking in compares to your feeling checking out? I'm probably not describing it well right now admittedly, but just wanted to share what was sprouting off the top of my head for possible inspiration. 🥹

I suppose you could maybe split it into 3 categories, Budget friendly, then hotels that are mid price range / entry level 5 star resorts and then the higher end luxury resorts. I think as long as you give the viewers an idea of the price range per night then that makes it much easier to understand what to expect. we travel from the UK so often alternate the sort of hotel we go for, budget stays have been the bahia principe Akumal in Mexico and grand palladium punta cana, our entry level 5 stars where TRS Turquesa and Secrets Royal Beach Punta Cana, Luxury stays have been Iberostar Grand Bavaro, Iberostar Grand Paraiso 3 times and Unico 20 87. Iberostar grand paraiso is by far my favourite (renamed JOIA Paraiso by iberostar) but loved all of the resorts for different reasons and when pay less you should go in to the stay with different expectations. But unfortunately alot of travellers dont have that mind set, thats why i love your videos because can tell you give such an honest review but also you are rating the place with the mindset of how much it actually costs as well.

Hello James 👋 I'm headed to the Platinum Yucatan Princess for 10 days in Playa Del Carmen at the beginning of December. I was so happy to watch a review of the Princess Resort Brand, as I have never stayed at one before. The Resort in Punta Cana seems a little off so I'm hopeful that Playa is better. Just want to give a suggestion and I'm sure you must get this or many but I suggest you expand your audience by 2 to 3x by doing Cruises also. There are many ships, many lines to go on and people watching your channel would love to see you change it up. I Suggest if you do, do NCL.. they have Solo Cabins. but do all ships and all lines. Also stay at Disney Hotels also if you like disney, or Universal. Just a couple suggestions. TY for your vids

Thank you for this excellent review. This resort is sadly everything I don’t want in a resort, so I will never be staying here. Two hours for room service? One hour for A La carte? Often times as a solo traveller I’ve been ignored once you get in the Buffet. Had To chase down a waiter to give me a glass of water. Don’t want that experience again. Not a fan of loud music coming all the way to your room either. Love how honest you are about your reviews. This is why I always turn to this channel to help me choose.😊

Hi James✨ I’m always happy when i hear a new, customized version of your theme song 🎶🎵🎶 The food at our hospital looked better than what you had, except the Swiss Chalet. I thought one of the walls in the buffet looked like they decorated it with juice and detergent bottles …huh? Didn’t seem like a lot of variety, either. Oh well, the price kinda explains that. Nightlife definitely more subdued than so many other places you’ve been so I’m glad that it made your stay much better. Another great review!! This one never even crossed my radar even though my first AI experience was at Grand Bavaro Princess 15 years ago. Shocked at the grounds, but can see why this falls to a 4.5 star with a lack-luster food selection, mid-tier beach and 1 pool. Would definitely consider for a trip with friends or for a budget get-away after watching. Cheers!

It's been about 5 years, but you really told the true. Swiss restaurant and lobby bar was a 5 plus for me. Breakfast buffet, good. Beach was better when I was there. One thing you missed was the foam party at the pool ... it was a blast .. thanks for your content, and well done.

I love DR and the people soo much. Want yo go back after 4 years. Planning to go with my extended family from South Africa which is over 24 hours of flights and super expensive. Want to go somewhere affordable for them but still a good DR experience and food. I was looking at Dreams La Romana? No seaweed in July. I have booked this resort for 2 weeks in late February. Booked just because it is smaller, quieter , close to the airport and a direct flight as well as the beach is normally beautiful. No resort can halt seaweed or sargassum especially during this time of year. As long as there is wine and bread I won’t starve. It may not be as high end as you normally review but then a senior like me can afford a couple of weeks in the sun to offset our hellish winters. After living in Grand Cayman for many years this will suffice. 0:05

Another great review James. I agree with you, inconsistency especially in the service is a negative for me. I stayed at Bahia Principe property in Punta Cana a few years ago, and service was a big issue. Service was 40% okay/good to 60% awful -- rude and argumentative staff. Very unlike all other DR hotels I stayed at. Not going back there.

James, how about 4-star not all-inclusive hotels? I honestly do not need 5 a la carte restaurants, especially when the ethnic food there (sushi or pasta) is abominable. I’d be interested in hearing his take on SCC as well. I think it’s not going to be his style as it’s laid back and not much going on. Which was perfect for us last year on our anniversary trip. But the service and food is impeccable there. We were there last year when the New England Patriots cheerleaders were there on a photo shoot. We’re going to Secrets Akumal in 2025. SCC is one of the most expensive Secrets properties now and I’m not quite sure why.

If you were to take you're gf to DR and want to stay somewhere thats adults only and really nice where would you recommend? My Bro, breathless is 5x more expensive - completely different realm. Thats like comparing Kia to Lexus. personally, I judge hotels in a dynamic manner, with experience and price/value being influential factors. I would absolutely take this property over every PC Royalton (except chic), which is a positioned a realm or two above in both branding and price. It you are familiar with the start of my channel, it was all ultra elite hotels, but it turns out not only are they quite dull, but they lack diversity in experience. Also, some of my greatest memories are from whimsically trying new places and getting outside my comfort zone. If I traveled like most, I'd probably align more with your thoughts. I'm a travel/hotel anomaly.

We stayed. Well lots of prostitution, night time was wierd plastic chairs in lobby for entertainment. Hit or miss. Very rude European tourists. Food was 3 star. Beach party fun. We made our own party all robes and brought people. Rooms lovely but when it rained the lower level flooded as did the pool and pool bar sewage was an issue. The top rooms had water running the outlet. One day would be a party crown the next really rude old people. Rude to staff. We had a good time because we had a bunch. But it was odd. The beach bar we had to ask to open at night. Also the tv selection was alot of adult shows. A lot !!!! The rooms were good. The house keeping good. But if you wanna hook up with some locals and or find bring someone this place is it. Also the professionals we all saw were gorgeous male and female. Two ladies from Montreal well, they had a great week with. Two of the biggest good looking guys. ( yes it’s true they told us ) would I go back ummmm with a bunch of couples ya also the fondue is HOT also all “meats” on same plate raw. But fun. Yup bipolar restraint. Steak house never open. The princess in Mexico is heads above this one

Hey James will you be doing a review on the serenade all suites in punta Cana because I’m here currently and I’ve had the worst experience I’ve ever had and I travel to all inclusives twice a year and I’m curious on your thoughts about it

I’ve only done all inclusives in DR and Mexico. Mexicans provide better service hands down.
