It’s hilarious employers can fire you on short notice, yet when employees leave, they have to give a two week notice “courtesy” or else they are the bad person!

You're right. It is a courtesy to give a 2 week notice. You can quit your job as soon as you want without notice or reason unless you have a contract that you signed. Just walk away. Don't go back. What are they going to do? Fire you? Take you to court? Call the police? The sheriff? Bounty hunter? Like I did in my last & final job; left a message on the company answering service: "Goodbye." The job prior to that, I quit but I said I would stay until the end of the week if they (the owners) asked me. That was a big mistake. On Friday afternoon just before I was ready to leave, my boss called me into his office, ripped my a$$ apart, and I left in tears.

Remember: at will employment is a two way street. Yes, your employer can fire you on the spot, but you can quit on the spot too. My biggest piece of advice is keep looking for jobs aggressively like you don't have one after you accept a job offer. You don't know what a workplace is truly like until you actually start working there and it doesn't take very long to determine if it's worth staying there.

I had a job once where I got fired without explanation... Advice to those currently seeking employment such as myself: Avoid mentioning you were fired from your last place of employment. Do not bad mouth your last employer. I plan on being as vague as possible when seeking employment. For example: In these challenging times, it's my duty to find suitable employment that matches my skills set harmoniously to the advantage that works for me and my future employer. Leave it at that. Anything more - NOBODY CARES!

How would you even say that with a straight face, and who would accept it?

It completely benefits employers who can fire an employee for any reason, including refusing to break the law, while simultaneously controlling employees, who have a resume to turn in to get a new job, and lots of jobs make the employee look unreliable. Thats all people need to know. Its a crock of horse poop.

What happens when you took a fmla leave and they literally just don’t accommodate you and had no choice to take fmla leave and are to afraid to come back to work

Taking FMLA leave is protected activity. So if they are retaliating against you for taking it, talk to a lawyer.

I am Canadian worker. In Canada, don't use at will but employer can fire for any reasons made up and no investigation. So, here in Canada, the same many bad employers and smart way avoid lawful collusion with union.

I've had at-will employers literally look at me and say, "to you, I'm God. If you even look the wrong way, you will be out the door so fast your head will spin." What? Come on! I'm just a guy who's trying to live. We need Just-Cause.

We definitely need the Just Cause law instated, but everyone is cowards. They won't fight back until something happens to them, and then they want help. Let's stop helping people like that!
