Did you know there is a flamethrower to help you turn away the aliens? Doesn't work all the time but can get you out of a jam sometimes.

Imagine if Atari had used this game, as the basis for 2600 Pac-Man. Obviously, change would need to be made to the characters and objects. But, I do believe it would’ve worked out! ‘Atari’s’ Doug Neubauer - inventor of the Atari POKEY Chip, and the 8-bit computer game Star Raiders wrote this. He used the name “Dallas North”.

I supposed that the sound effects of the video were dubbed, just added to show how much this was a Pacman ripoff... but no, these are the real sounds from the game! This is much more Pacman than the official VCS Pacman, no doubts.

How'd you die at the end? Does the item not turn them vulnerable immediately? Perhaps you needed to wait a half-second longer?

Despite the fact that I typically don't care for Atari 2600 games (nothing against the console, company, or those who grew up with it, just not my thing), this is actually one of the much better games in its fairly huge library. Released in 1982 by 20th Century Fox to cash in on their successful sci-fi horror film of the same name, Alien proves that not all licensed games on the old Atari suck. Let's be honest: this is a thinly veiled Pac-Man clone with Frogger or Freeway-styled bonus stages in between each successful maze completion. Despite that, the game's simple-yet-derivative gameplay was pulled off much better here than what Atari decided to release with their own "official" Pac-Man port that same year. The plot of the game is strangely similar to that of the second and third acts of Aliens, which didn't come out until 1986. You play Ellen Ripley, Sigourney Weaver's character from the series, and you have to destroy Alien eggs while keeping the fully matured ones at bay with your flamethrower. Whether or not you're a fan of the Alien franchise, this is a game worth picking up for your Atari if you are a fan of classic Pac-Man and want something more functional than Atari's in-house offering. If you plan on grabbing a copy for your collection this will set you back about $20-25 loose.

this must be what inspired Attack Of The Ass Eaters. that yellow one reminds me of them. also does anyone know if there's game mode settings? James and mike playing this never got any power up to "eat the ghosts" and the beginning of this long play looks like RickyC is toggling the difficulty and mode switches a few times.

Never understood why levels on Atari games never change their colours during gameplay, albeit in demo mode, they do. This could make them somewhat less repetitive and give a real sense of progression.

yeah I always loved the Atari 2600 games with this one a great Pac-Man type of game. lots of people think Atari Superman is a mixed up game & even say its the worst Atari game but they never know how to play Superman. Superman for the Atari 2600 is one of the best games ever for the Atari 2600 I love the game & have a few videos here on KZbin showing & talking about how to play Superman for the Atari 2600!

Would have loved to have had this game back in the day! One of the best Atari movie related games. Steven Spielberg wanted E.T. to be “like Pac-Man”; maybe the developer should have listened! You cannot go wrong with a gobbler clone!

I don't know how to feel about this game. It's not even trying to hide the fact that it's a Pac-Man clone. But, it is screaming at that old pack in game that the notion can be done right on a 2600. Power pellets make Aliens vulnerable and scared? I don't remember that one from any of the films. They don't even run from Predators, for peet's sake.

The game was produced by 20th Century Fox, which had the distribution rights to both Star Wars and Star Trek at the time, so... probably not copyright infringement. At least not that part.

There should be an episode of AVGN on this. It’s so shitty it has absolutely nothing to do with Alien. You wouldn’t be able to tell it was Alien themed by looking at it. They really could have done something with it. Why not make an adventure game out of it like the Indiana Jones game on the 2600 but with a Xeno hunting you.
