It definitely didn't suck... I got years of fun out of this great handheld. I liked that it was the most powerful handheld on the market, very comfortable, and had unique games. Kung Food, Electrocop, Pac-Land, Klax, Slime World... so many fun games that didn't get the attention they deserved I guess.

The Atari Lynx was designed to flip for three reasons. The first is so that it can be played left to right and top to bottom. I believe Gauntlet is played like that and another RPG... The second reason is so that left handed people can play more comfortably. The last reason is somewhat more interesting in nature. Now, this was before my timr so bare with me... Back in the early 1980's arcade cabinets were setup opposite of what they are today. What that means is the button layout was actually to the left of the arcade stick. Arcade owners of the time were worried that players were becoming too good. It didn't help that there weren't as many genres back then and games were very similar. Arcades began loosing money as players could last on one quarter for a longtime. They basically requested the game developers switch the buttons from left to right and it stuck. Atari started during this time period and wanted to give players the ability to play like they used to. If you look at a 5200 it also has two fire buttons on either side of the controller as well.

Yes it was an powerfull machine for it's time being 12 years ahead of it's time, with 1 8bit 4mhz chip, 2 16bit 16mhz chips 1 32bit apu chip 64KB Dram, with a 16color lcd screen, along with background & sprite scaling & polygon rendering, with software tricks, many limitations can be overcome.

Oh man that thing is huge I agree I would rather go for the gameboy then the lynx anyday just cause it has a larger and better game library and its pocket friendly.

Wow! That thing IS a beast! How does it compare in size to Game Gear? Seems the GG would be a bit thinner.
@zx502 жыл бұрын
I think the Game Gear was roughly the same length but thinner. I think the screen was also roughly the same size as well.

This title is misleading - this is not an "unboxing" video, this is someone opening up a previously opened box in which various contents (some of which didn't come in the box to begin with) have been placed.

There shouldn't be a power adapter in the box, that came as a separate accesoirre,

the reason why they have the flip bottom is because they wanted to have left handed gamers to not be uncomfortable while playing video games. No i have no idea what they smoked during that period.

I can hardly believe that this beast has a 32bit apu chip for controlling the 4 8bit dac soundchannels,am mean seriously,most games sounds more like a sega master system and brick game,hahahaha what a shame,it's true that many games do have SOME digital sound effects but that's it and the quality of those samples are mostly POOR. I personaly just don't like the sound of it at all,they should,ve take benefit of it butno they ditn't, even atari rarely used digital sound,SHAME SHAME SHAME!!!!!
