ATC Audio - SFO Low Level Wind Shear Event - "It was a freakin' blast man!"

Dangerous low level wind shear of 15-30 knot loss on runways and short final at SFO causes a stop of departures. While runways 28L and R remained open for arriving traffic, only a couple planes were able to land. Many go arounds and with the wind shear situation not improving for about an hour, many planes given radar vectors to divert to SJC or OAK for low fuel situations.

That was a crazy day, I was off and remember driving in San Bruno near the end of the 28s and seeing what I thought were 3 Skywest CRJs that had just taken off, but they were very high and on an odd heading. I thought it was odd, but it didn't even cross my mind they were go-arounds with how quick they flew by back to back. Then I get back home to San Jose at the time and hear from my coworkers at SFO that everything is diverting! Turns out even though the winds gusted above 50 knots at SFO, they were CALM in Oakland right across the bay! Air France A380 and many others did not get in for several hours. Too bad I missed out.

It seems some previous posters don't understand that airline and charter pilots have to adhere to their company SOP's or OPS Manual limitations for weather conditions. Thou shalt not transgress these ops criteria lest a meeting in the Chief Pilots office shall ensue. It's that simple.
