I just got the game and don't really know much about it, Nor I've played JRPG's before and this really a lot to take in. But, This genuinely made me much more interested in the game seeing so many things you can unlock from just crafting items is honestly exciting. Looking forward to more of your videos since this helped me get a much more broader view of how alchemy works in this game :>

Thanks for making this - I now understand that alchemy a lot better. I think I was too much focused on gathering, always running out of space, and exploring ruins. I knew about alchemy a little bit when I needed fish oil, but I generally went in and used the right button to go for the best creation automatically - which got me slightly bored with the whole alchemy thing. Now that I am further in the game... this might be an option to get crystals and duplicate. I also discovered that the compass shows the amount of items to find in the left top corner, which makes it easier to unlock the ruins. This game is right op my alley now that I read more about it. I know your vid was posted a while ago but luckily the algo of YT found it. I am playing it on the switch by the way, I do have a PS5 but it was on deep discount for the switch.

Great video, however for someone who has never touched the series before, doing a more simple, focused beginner guide could be really good. It would be awesome to see a guide that focuses on the basics, how to make the best quality item just by combining fairly low level items by taking advantage of elemental affinities and traits. Explaining how to unlock transferable traits (the ones that are locked when the item is being created), etc. There is a lot of information there and by going through too many systems right away is a bit overwhelming. Morphing and other systems are great, but before we understand the foundation of creating a decent low level items, it seems a bit much.
@Swrinny3 жыл бұрын
Hey - thanks for the feedback and good points you're bringing up! In hindsight, by asking myself "what kind of information wasn't fully clear for me when playing through Ryza 2" kind of limited this, because after playing through the first one, things like Quality, Locked Traits and Elemental level were already known to me. I think in the future it'd be good to take a step back further and pace it better so it wouldn't be overwhelming, maybe even split it up in multiple videos. I'll collect some more feedback from the comments for a while and then add a large pinned comment with extra clarifications for those needed. Also if you're looking for any specific info let me know!

very good beginner guide! it's not something easy to do if you want to keep the length of the video to be not too long for the viewers ;) maybe if later you make another guide, then you could talk about : - the importance of stacking some specific traits to increase their level/efficiency and how to do it. (i'm saying that because in my case, i know i missed this opportunity to make better items when i started to learn about alchemy and i wasted materials and gems). - the "spread +" effect (i haven't used it myself yet, but i know it will be very effective later when i will progress further in the game) - how to get some materials earlier in the game by developping Romy's shop without having to visit parts of the worlds which you have no access yet. (i'm thinking about items like "jade water", "samasten" and "creaminea" metals, in my case) here's a cool tip i've learned about in another video from someone else recently : i understood what the 4 elemental essences could do but i didn't know we can also use these elemental essences to get a more powerful effect that is reachable only in different material loop. for example, with the golden axe, there are 2 material loops named "effect 1", the first one unlock the effect "capable" and "proper" chopping (level 1 and 2, that is 1 or 2 stars for that gathering tool) and the 2nd material loop is much further away and it unlocks the last level (3-star axe). i didn't have enough material quantity to reach the 2nd "effect 1" loop in the golden axe recipe, but we can actually use the lightning essence on the first "effect 1" loop and unlock "expert chopping" immediately by using any cheap lightning ore materials and not by spending both ligthning ores AND "woodcutter's axes" for the 2nd "effect 1" loop. i was so happy to get my 3 star axe this way!!! :)))
@Hobbitude3 жыл бұрын
for example, here's how i created my 3-star Silent Sickle using 2 elemental essences => streamable.com/8cl495 (there's probably better ways to do it later in the the game but so far, it's the shortest way i found for me at the moment)
@Swrinny3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Hobbitude, really appreciate it! Yeah as you mentioned it was a bit difficult for me to decice what's going to go in the video or not. In the end I ended up deciding between: a limited time video catered to beginners or a full guide that goes into every little detail (which would end up being between 40-60 minutes lol and would probably be too overwhelming for new players). I then thought about when I played through the game for the first time and how most alchemy systems only started to make sense when actually trying them out. So that's where I ended up creating this video for - explaining what you can do with alchemy and how you could tackle it. I really think that, if you understand what's covered in this video, you will have the fundamental knowledge to go through everything even in post-game. That said - there are definitely things that could be even more helpful to players, even if they understand the fundamentals. Trait stacking as you mentioned could be one thing, for instance the different between Traits like Skill Charge and Skill Charge+ and do those effects even stack? And also - even if a material loop is filled you can still add more materials to keep stacking traits. The item spread effect is definitely worthwhile if you want to make ultimate weapons/armor. Because what this does it unlock the material loops that are directly connected to the one where you've added the item. So by using this you can get through the Recipe Morphs and material loops a lot faster and use the extra material quantity's to add more items just to stack more traits. And yeah what you mentioned about using essences to increase item effects is really important and I've covered that a bit around 13:52 in the video. It's fun to read how much you're enjoying the game and finding your way around the alchemy system though :D The feeling you had when finally creating a gathering tool with 3 starts is really relateable haha. I'm not sure if I'd do another guide on alchemy as remaining questions would be for very specific things and by googling them I can already see different articles/videos about it but if I run into things that aren't as clear and no one really cover I might give it a look :D

@Swrinny3 жыл бұрын
Glad you like it! :D So each item can carry a total of 3 traits and by using that item as a material for other items, the 3 traits are carried over. By default, 1 trait is unlocked at 2 are locked. That means that if you'd finish the item you create, it will be default only allow for 1 trait to really be active. During the creation process there are a two material loops that allow you to 'unlock traits', so by filling these the locks will disappear and all 3 traits become active. If you've already crafted an item and want to unlock the trait slots later, you can do this by unlocking "Item Rebuilding" in the skill tree. As for your excess items, I recommend to turn them into gems by unlocking "Gem Reduction" in the skill tree. Money isn't that useful in the game but gems will be needed a lot in alchemy later on. Hope this helps!

I'm sure that you've poured a lot of efforts into this video, and this seems to be a nice video explaining some of the more advanced topics of alchemy, but it's certainly not a tutorial for "beginners" whose very first title is Ryza 2 in the series. Being level 20, I'm still struggling to unlock "dry biscuits" morphing green beans for the "hungry girl" quest, and I wish this video could have helped me more. I have nowhere near as many materials at my disposal as you do (8 from what I can see). Of course it's going to be trivial for someone at higher levels, but it would been helpful if you had provided an example with Ryza being at a level where she runs into the quests that require such new alchemic knowledge (like creating the uni charm for the bandit quest, or the dried biscuits).
@KarmaPowered2 жыл бұрын
Once you get both "Quantity Up" in the skill tree, the "morphing" operations become trivial. I was stuck because I couldn't add enough materials to the synthesis. Maybe could this help another player in the future.

It's good to craft new items whenever you go into a new area. But honestly whenever I spent some time crafting new weapons and gear I was usually good for 2-3 areas. Focusing purely on progression, just gather everything you find and when you find that your team is struggling in combat it's time to go wild with crafting new items!

It depends on if you find the enemies/bosses in dungeons difficult. I found that once I had okay equipment, I didn’t need to synth any more for like 2 more ruins (which was a good 5-10 hours of the game). I would wait a little rather than creating new equipment all the time, because you really don’t need to until later in the game.
@Swrinny3 жыл бұрын
At some points you kinda have to because with each area the power/difficulty of enemies jumps up a bit and depending on how good the equipment is that you craft, it can help you get through multiple. As Zoozbuh mentioned in the other comment - it's best to not create new equipment all the time. And I'd add to that to just play until you find that you either struggle or fights take a long time. Then you can teleport right back to the atelier and craft equipment, but I'd only do so for your active party as you'll probably run out of materials when you try to make items for everyone.

I'm guessing you need it for the bandit group sidequest? :) You can craft it by unlocking 2 nodes in the skill tree: "Ignot" and "Recipe Morph". After that, go to the alchemy pot and search for the Ignot recipe and you see that you can Morph that into the Uni Charm. The part at 06:28 explains how these morphs work. It's very story-driven and a lot of the character development etc is done through side-missions and a lot of dialogue. The alchemy system is very deep and you can create some really good (and gamebreaking) stuff with it and the combat is surprisingly one of my favorite in recent years. So if you like this kind of JRPG it's definitely worth picking up :) I really recommend playing Ryza 1 first though if you care about the story and characters. You can play it separately but you'll appreciate it a lot more if you've played the first one. I've also got a review of this game on my channel btw if you want more info

Runs very well on Switch. Some texture tearing, but it will be noticed more in dock mode. This is my first Atelier game and I am enjoying it very much. Combat is simple, fair and varied. The core of the game being Synthesis. Item gathering is very interesting as well since depending on the weapon/tools you use youll gather new items from the same tree or rocks. So its not repetitive as you keep unlocking new items and customization.
